Chelsea are reportedly interested in Manchester United’s Luke Shaw and are monitoring his situation as he awaits a contract extension offer from José Mourinho, according to The Mirror.
Mourinho has been very inconsistent with Shaw this season, publicly saying that he does not match the work ethic needed for a Manchester United player, while also saying there is no better left back in world football than him.
Shaw has featured in five of the Red Devils’ eight games this calendar year, but he may only spend half of this calendar year in West Manchester, as other clubs look fondly at him.
The England left-back, who is looking to be on the plane to Russia in the summer with Gareth Southgate’s team, is reportedly keen on extending his stay in the north, despite interest from Chelsea.
However, the Blues are not alone in admiring Shaw, with London rivals Arsenal also keen on the 22-year-old.
His current contract at the Theatre of Dreams, which runs out at the end of next season, has him currently on £90,000 per week, but with Mourinho and Shaw looking to extend that, his wages could rise to somewhere between £120,000 and £150,000 per week.
The delayed transfer talks is what has brought Shaw to the attention of Antonio Conte and Arsene Wenger, but with five months to go until the next transfer window opens, this gives Mourinho and Shaw plenty of time to settle on an agreement.
