Chelsea defender rallies the troops ahead of Barcelona trip

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has called on his teammates to turn in the “perfect” performance when they travel to Barcelona next week, as reported by Goal.

The Blues will make the trip to Spain as they play out the second leg of their round of 16 tie in the Champions League. Chelsea drew 1-1 with Barca in the first leg, with Willian and Lionel Messi netting for their respective sides.

There is still a lot to play for and it will be an interesting game, we know it’s going to be tough but our performance showed what we are capable of doing and we will try our best to qualify.

It’s sure to be a hugely challenging task for Antonio Conte’s side at Camp Nou on Wednesday, though, and Azpilicueta has admitted that Chelsea must maintain focus and avoid silly mistakes at the home of the La Liga leaders.

We have to play a perfect game, we know we are playing against very good players in a tough stadium but we are confident and we will try to qualify.

Barcelona head into the match with a narrow advantage as a result of their away goal but Chelsea will fancy their chances, knowing that they came close to finding the net on more than one occasion against Ernesto Valverde’s side in midweek.

After two tough defeats a few weeks ago the team responded with two wins against West Brom, and then Hull City in the FA Cup. Against Barcelona it was also a great performance from the team, nearly perfect.

Azpilicueta has been typically reliable for the Blues this season and will hope to be at his best when he returns to his homeland to face Barca.
