Arsenal have been drawn against Italian giants, AC Milan in the last-16 of the Europa League.
It didn’t feel like to anyone who watched Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Östersunds FK at the Emirates last night but the Gunners did, in fact, qualify for the next stage of the Europa League.
The 3-0 victory in Sweden proved too much for the away side to overhaul on Thursday night and the Gunners headed for the draw.
Well, that draw was held today and Arsenal were the last team out of the pot as they were drawn against AC Milan.
The Italian side are giants of continental football with seven European Cup titles to their name.
Gennaro Gattuso’s side aren’t having the best of seasons in Serie A as they currently sit in seventh place but they are the calibre of side which should not be underestimated.
AC Milan and Arsenal haven’t played each other since that Champions League round-of-16 tie in 2012. The Gunners surrendered to a 4-0 defeat at the San Siro only to win 3-0 at the Emirates and fail to qualify.
These are two very different football clubs now but Arsene Wenger will not be looking for a repeat of that tie. The Gunners need success in the Europa League now considering how poorly things are going in the Premier League. AC Milan is a tricky tie but it is certainly a winnable one.
