Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has admitted he has regrets and questions over the decision to allow Nemanja Matic to join Manchester United.
The two Premier League sides face off in a big game that will significantly affect who finishes in the top two come the end of the season. Matic signed for Man United for around £40m in the summer in a surprise deal of the transfer window.
United fans have been impressed by Matic for most of the season, while Chelsea fans have looked on with jealousy given the relatively poor performances of Tiemoue Bakayoko, signed as an improvement to Matic.
“About this player I can talk only really well because he played with us last season,” Conte said on Sunday’s games.
“I think he was one of the key players in winning the title.
“Now Matic, unfortunately, is playing for Manchester United. I wish for him the best. Not on Sunday, but in the future.”
When Matic completed his move to Old Trafford in August, Conte admitted that it was a “big loss” for Chelsea, creating huge questions as to why he was sold if the manager wanted to keep him.
The Italian didn’t want to bring up old stories, though, and refused to speak about something “not interesting” when asked about Matic joining a Premier League title rivals.
“In the past, we have already managed this topic,” Conte said.
“I don’t want to come back and speak about the past because I think it’s not important, not interesting for us.”
United can open up a six-point gap on champions Chelsea on Sunday with a win, but will be level if the visitors can grab three points at Old Trafford.
