Manchester United’s Axel Tuanzebe is the subject of interest from Aston Villa who wish to sign him on loan this January transfer window.
The academy product has risen through the ranks under Jose Mourinho’s management and is said to be highly rated by the club’s staff.
Involved with the first team this season, Tuanzebe has had to play back-up so far with the squad currently boasting excessive numbers in defence.
Besides himself there is Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling who represent the club’s senior options in the centre of defence.
With Mourinho employing a two centre-back formation, there’s no real room for the youngster and he may be better off on loan playing frequently for his new club.
According to the Mail Online, Villa hope to sign Axel on loan in time for the weekend fixtures and United are said to be open to the move.
Jose has already talked about his reluctance to let his player move on temporarily due to his current defenders having a tendency to be injury prone.
Smalling, Rojo, Bailly and Jones have all been missing at one point or the other this season and should Manchester United suffer a defensive crisis they may need Axel Tuanzebe.
There’s also the question of whether the centre-back is of better quality than the current Championship level given how he’s feature for the club a few times this season.
It may make more sense for Tuanzebe to leave to a Premier League side instead to gain experience before returning to United ready for first team action.
