Manchester United are prepared the back manager Jose Mourinho in the transfer market this summer by providing him with two marquee signings.
The board at the club have been left frustrated by Mourinho’s public grumblings about a lack of funding for transfers, despite the Portuguese having spent over £260m since arriving at the club in June 2016.
He made Paul Pogba the most expensive player in world football for a season, has players on astronomical wages and has continually splashed the cash with the backing of the board. Yet in recent weeks, his complaints have been that United have spent less than local title rivals Manchester City who are currently on their way to being crowned champions with ease.
However, despite those frustrations from the board, they will continue to back Mourinho. Chief Executive Ed Woodward and his colleagues believe Mourinho’s transfer dealings have been ‘well thought-out’, according to the Daily Mail.
Plans are now in place for two huge signings in summer with the Reds desperate to catch up with their city rivals and win the Premier League again, for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
United’s board also have some sympathy for Mourinho’s view that he inherited a far worse squad than Pep Guardiola at Man City.
Quite who the suggested two marquee signings will be left to the imagination for now. Antoine Griezmann, France international and Atletico Madrid star, is set to leave La Liga this season and has been a long-term target of United’s, coming close to moving to Old Trafford in summer.
