Jesse Lingard has admitted he’s in the best form of his life after being named Manchester United Player of the Month for December.
The Englishman has been in sensational form since the end of November, when he sealed a 4-2 win for Man United against Watford with a stunning solo goal, dribbling from his own half before a great finish.
He’s scored seven goals in his last nine games and grabbed two assists in that time. His sudden goalscoring form has been a surprise, but a fantastic one. He’s quickly cemented himself as one of the most important players in Jose Mourinho’s side.
Asked whether he was in his best ever form, Lingard said: “Yes, of course.”
“I think I’m now coming into the team and it’s a great group of lads,” Lingard told MUTV. “It’s easy to play as a team with the performances we’ve been showing pretty much since last month.
“It’s good to keep working hard, pushing yourself and, by scoring goals, you get the reward.”
Lingard now has 10 goals for the season. Having been appreciated by some sections of United’s support previously, but ridiculously underrated and scapegoated by others, Lingard is now also impressing himself onto the wider football community.
“To score a goal for Manchester United is always a great feeling,” he continued.
“To score the goals I’ve scored is even better really. I enjoy going out on the pitch every week, scoring goals and helping the team.”
There are few more likeable players than Lingard in the United squad. And it’s not just because he’s a local lad, born in Warrington, who has come through the system. His quality is now showing, too.
