Manchester United star Ashley Young has been banned for three matches for violent conduct during the clash vs Southampton in the Premier League.
The Red Devils could’ve done without the suspension considering their lack of options in the full-back positions.
Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian have already succumbed to injury leaving Daley Blind and Luke Shaw as the only viable alternatives.
Jose Mourinho already isn’t too keen on Blind as a full-back with his lack of pace and strength both being exposed quite often.
Victor Lindelof will likely have to play in the right-back position with United’s defensive line down to their bare bones.
According to Bleacher Report, the FA’s statement reads as follows: “He [Young] accepted a violent conduct charge following an off-the-ball incident during yesterday’s game against Southampton, but argued the suspension was excessive. This was rejected by a Regulatory Commission.”
Ashley had been caught on camera elbowing Dusan Tadic in the stomach in the club’s dull draw at Old Trafford.
The referee didn’t include it in the match report and so the FA had to get involved, deeming the incident worthy of banning the English international.
In terms of centre-backs, United are left with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, youngster Axel Tuanzebe and the aforementioned Lindelof.
Although number wise they seem to be safe, Victor is likely to feature in the right-back position leaving Jones to be partnered with an unfit Rojo.
Tuanzebe is also in his debut season and should any more injuries and suspensions occur, United may have to start promoting academy products to fill in senior shoes.
The injury proneness of the Red Devils’ backline is well documented and perhaps this will make Mourinho lose his patience.
