Man Utd legend praises three players for being like 'shining lights' for the team

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has hailed three Manchester United players for showing loyalty and care for the famous red shirt during a difficult period.

The Red Devils were recently on a poor run of form having lost to Bristol City in the Carabao Cup then drawing consecutive matches with Leicester City, Burnley and Southampton.

United finally ended the disappointment by beating Everton in the Premier League and matched the result vs Derby in the FA Cup as well.

With Jose Mourinho’s men still 15 points behind league leaders and fierce rivals Manchester City, they’ll have to keep up the winning run if they are to have any hopes of catching up.

During the lacklustre fixtures though, some players amongst the squad could leave the pitch with their heads held high and Neville believes he knows just which three can do so confidently.

According to Sky Sports, Gary said: “People are viewing this period as a difficult period but he [Lingard], Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are shining like lights because they’ve got the underbelly and fight.

“What fans want is loyalty and care for the shirt and that is such an important characteristic. It shouldn’t be underestimated what that has been to United since the ’90s.”

Jesse Lingard is the talk of the town at the moment and deservedly so after impressing consistently in recent matches, scoring and assisting crucial goals for the club.

The academy product is clearly going through a purple patch of form and is certainly undroppable so long as it continues for Manchester United.

Antonio Valencia meanwhile has become a completely different player under Jose Mourinho’s guidance and is easily United’s first choice right-back when fit and available.

Ashley Young has taken inspiration from his opposite full-back by also converting himself from a winger into a defender and has impressed so much so that he’s won the left-back spot ahead of the other players.
