Man Utd and England star explains difficult Christmas period

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has expressed dissatisfaction with the Premier League’s Christmas period fixtures after the club’s recent struggles.

The Red Devils lost to Bristol City before drawing matches against Leicester City, Burnley and Southampton to add to their woes in England’s top division.

United trail fierce rivals and league leaders Manchester City by 15 points and have failed to completely navigate through the winter period successfully.

However, the winless run did end with wins vs Everton and Derby and Jose Mourinho’s men now have a small break before returning to proceedings.

Mourinho has opted to take his players to Dubai for warm weather training and Jones has not left without speaking his mind first.

According to Sports Mole, Phil said: “For sure it’s been a difficult period, especially for the body. We are not robots. It is difficult around the Christmas period with the amount of games and the travelling that you have to do.

“We are not asking people to get the violins out but it is difficult. As a player you have to be wary of that and and focus on recovering well for each game. It’s difficult to train normally. It is all about recovering between the games, then playing the matches.”

Phil Jones has had his own fair share of issues since arriving at Old Trafford, having suffered plenty of injuries throughout his time there.

Fortunately for the Englishman he’s been able to remain relatively fit and has won over Jose after an initial turbulent time under his management.

The Portuguese manager opted to sign two defenders in his first two seasons at the club and it’s no surprise that he’s deemed that position of the pitch as a problem area.

Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have both been brought in to Manchester United with the pair said to be the side’s new first choice partnership.

Injuries to the Ivorian has prevented that from happening so far but Lindelof has impressed in recent matches in his absence.

Whether the pair can truly become top centre-backs for Mourinho and United is yet to be seen but there’s great hope for both of them from the fans.
