Jose Mourinho has expressed his delight with Anthony Martial after the Frenchman claimed his 11th goal of the season during Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Burnley.
The 22-year-old, having struggled to impose himself on proceedings in the first half, went up a gear after the break with a series of crisp bursts forward.
And the crowning moment came in the 54th minute when Romelu Lukaku’s pass found Martial and the Frenchman, with the same curling ferociousness behind the shot as seen against Everton and Stoke City, fired past Nick Pope.
Speaking after the game, Mourinho hailed the forward for making such important steps going forward this season.
Mourinho on Martial: “No doubt from last season to this season, I have seen a huge improvement. We are happy with him , we just want consistency, we know he has the talent.” #mufc pic.twitter.com/SMbcOjG0Qc

Mourinho publicly criticised Martial’s performances last season solely because of what we are seeing right now.
He knew, like all of us, that beneath the occasionally surly exterior lies a truly devastating talent, someone with ferocious potential on the ball and a clear eye for goal. A capacity to light games up with one passage of play going forward.
Martial has admitted himself that his mind wasn’t completely focused on football last season, but the contrast less than a year later couldn’t be clearer: the Frenchman is driven, utterly ruthless, brimming with composure, and producing big moments in front of goal.
