West Ham striker Andy Carroll has told his club that he cannot train because of an ankle injury, with Chelsea waiting in the wings to sign him.
The Mirror report that the striker has informed the Hammers of an ankle injury, despite scans on the proposed knock showing no signs of any damage.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the former England international, with Antonio Conte going in search of a ‘Plan B’.
Alvaro Morata is enduring his worst goal drought since joining the club and Michy Batshuayi has not been deemed a strong enough alternative, despite scoring in the FA Cup replay against Norwich on Wednesday night.
Chelsea are said to be keen on a loan move for the striker but the Hammers will only sanction a permanent deal with David Moyes looking for funds to reinvest in his squad.
Batshuayi has been linked with a move in the opposite direction, which may boost Chelsea’s chance of securing a loan deal for Carroll.
