Jose Mourinho has ripped Antonio Conte to shreds for criticising his history of managerial conduct, insisting he would not, unlike some people, ever be caught for match-fixing.
The 54-year-old seemingly targeted Conte and Jurgen Klopp ahead of the 2-0 win over Derby County by noting that he was inclined to ‘behave like a clown’ on the touchline.
Conte responded by questioning Mourinho’s memory, noting that the boss had a long history of touchline antics since his arrival in England.
And Mourinho, speaking after the win over Derby, hit back at the Italian in brutal fashion.
1/2. Jose on Conte dementia comment: "I don't blame him. Press should apologise to me + him. Question completely wrong + because of that, out of control reaction. I was speaking about myself. You said Mourinho said you behaved as a clown. I was speaking about myself.

2/2 Jose on Conte: "I don't need Chelsea manager to say I made mistakes in past and will in future. What I will say is I will never be banned for match fixing."

This is textbook Mourinho, and another example of the mind games master luring Conte out without mentioning his name before shooting him down in front of everyone, making the vital third and final interjection. The response to the response.
The 54-year-old was indeed alluding to himself when he made his ‘clown’ comment. He has notably moved on from the cabaret of touchline chaos that hallmarked the early stages of his career and settled into a more restrained, contemplative character, seemingly channelling that past fury into cold calculation.
But he knew the comment would have this effect, dragging others into his toxic yet unavoidable hemisphere, and Conte, yet again, has been chosen as the victim.
