Paul Scholes has claimed Jesse Lingard has improved more than any other Manchester United player in 2017.
The Englishman has been in the form of his life in the past month, netting six times in seven games and assisting twice as he’s become one of Man United’s most influential players.
His pace and movement have always caused issues, but it’s his recent goalscoring contributions that have seen him move up a level in football.
“Jesse’s come of age,” Scholes said on BT Sport before the Reds’ clash against Southampton on Saturday evening.
“You compare him to Mkhitaryan, he gives a lot more,” Scholes asserted.
“He’s United’s most improved player – no doubt.”
Lingard is flying at the moment. He’s been crucial in recent weeks. He scored a decisive goal against Watford in a 4-2 win, dribbling 80 yards before a cool finish to seal the win. A brace followed in the same week in United’s 3-1 win away at Arsenal.
He came on at half-time to score a second-half double to rescue United a point against Burnley on Boxing Day.
In the last few weeks, there’s no doubt that Lingard has been the most improved player at the club. This season, which Scholes didn’t specifically state but seemed to suggest, the same can probably be said.
Phil Jones has looked much better at centre-back, and Marouane Fellaini was in excellent form before he picked up an injury on international duty with Belgium. Paul Pogba, too, has been stunningly good when he’s not been sidelined through injury or suspension.
