Marouane Fellaini has hinted towards leaving Manchester United for free next summer, noting that he doesn’t know if he will accept a new contract offer from the club.
The Belgian’s current deal expires at the end of the campaign and he will have permission to speak with other clubs in January.
An offer tabled by the club was rejected back in September and a new proposal worth £150,000-a-week will be put forward in the coming weeks as Jose Mourinho looks to keep Fellaini at the club beyond this season.
But Fellaini, when asked about his future, intimated that he was considering entering a new chapter in his career.
“Honestly, I do not know. I have something in my head but I cannot tell you,” he said.
“This is my tenth season in England. Except for the very first at Manchester, I only knew good times. I’m still here.
“If Manchester did not want me anymore, they would have said that for a long time. They made a proposal, probably one will follow.
“Whether I will accept it I do not know. You cannot arrange something like that in a jiffy.”
Fellaini also noted that he had spoken with Mourinho, who could be crucial in any decision to stay, about the prospect of leaving next summer.
“We talked about it,” he added. “The coach is someone who respects the decisions of his players.
The 30-year-old has attracted interest from the Chinese Super League, Besiktas, Galatasaray, Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain, and the general feeling surrounding his predicament is that he fancies a new challenge after ten campaigns in the Premier League.
United have made efforts to keep him at the club but cannot, you sense, offer him a regular role in the starting XI like other clubs can, and that could be what pushes the midfielder towards the exit door.
