Manchester United will seek to make two signings over the January transfer window in order to compete with Manchester City, according to reports.
The club has expressed a need to sign a ‘magician’ forward to combat the lack of creativity in the side, with Gareth Bale, Antoine Griezmann and Malcolm all seen as potential options.
Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini look set to depart the club in the summer and Jose Mourinho, in turn, wants to add to his midfield, pin-pointing Borussia Dortmund pair Christian Pulisic and Julian Weigl, alongside the likes of Leon Goretzka, Leander Dendoncker and Lorenzo Pellegrini, as potential options.
And according to the M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, the club will make efforts to reinforce these two areas over the January transfer period.
Jose Mourinho is open to selling Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January to make way for transfers, while the futures of Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are also murky. His main area of concern, given the names listed, appears to be in attack. He clearly doesn’t believe his side has the creative clout to match teams around them in the Premier League.
Mesut Ozil and Gareth Bale are the two most popular options, yet any deal for the pair is unlikely to happen in January.
Supporters will also want to see their boss make efforts to secure a left-back following constant uncertainty in that area over the season, with Juventus’ Alex Sandro emerging as a prime candidate.
