Manchester United are considering a January move for former-defender Jonny Evans, according to The Mirror.
The Northern Irishman has made himself a key player for new club West Bromwich Albion and his country since leaving Nan United in 2015.
Louis van Gaal was the manager that sold him to the Baggies, and current boss Jose Mourinho has previously spoken badly of his predecessor’s decision to sell players like Evans, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.
Now Mourinho wants to bring Evans back to Old Trafford, with first-choice centre-back Eric Bailly out for the next three months after an operation on a ‘serious’ injury.
29-year-old Evans spent nine years in United’s first team before being directed out by van Gaal. Though a liability at times, Sir Alex Ferguson’s last few seasons saw Evans excel at centre-back, learning from Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
Evans is also thought to be a target for both Arsenal and Manchester City.
The former-Red has made 80 appearances for West Brom and his contract still has 18 months remaining on it.
It does feel like a strange decision if United go through with it. Mourinho can call upon Axel Tuanzebe or could recall Timothy Fosu-Mensah from his Crystal Palace loan rather than spending large sums of money on a 29-year-old.
