Manchester United will table a new contract offer worth £150,000 a week in an attempt to keep Marouane Fellaini at the club beyond this season, according to reports.
The Belgian, whose contract expires in the summer, will have the permission to speak with other clubs in January about a potential bosman transfer.
He rejected terms proposed by Man United in September and Jose Mourinho has previously expressed doubt over the midfielder’s future.
And according to the Telegraph‘s James Ducker, the club will make a last ditch attempt to keep Fellaini – valued highly by Mourinho – at the club with a new £150,000-a-week offer.
Less than a week remains before Fellaini can freely make plans for the next stage of his career and United, in response, have laid bare their intentions to keep him as an option in midfield going forward.
The Belgian may have already centred his focus around moving elsewhere, but such an offer – an incomparably high sum for a player entering his thirties – may just force him to think again.
Being told that you are wanted by your manager is one thing; seeing that notion reflected on paper, backed up by the club, is quite another.
Where he really lies on the situation, however, remains decidedly murky.
