Gary Neville has insisted that his former-teammate Paul Scholes should be given a coaching role in football soon.
The ex-Manchester United captain suggested that Scholes looks far more comfortable coaching on the pitch or on the training ground than a TV studio.
Scholes is currently working for BT Sport covering the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League regularly for one of the country’s biggest sports channels.
He speaks his mind very clearly, with no sugarcoating of what he thinks. Sky Sports pundit and commentator Neville believes a move into coaching would suit him far better, though.
“When I look at Paul Scholes,” Neville said to the Daily Mail, “I look at him in a TV studio and I think he’s brilliant on television but when you see him on a football pitch, that’s where he feels at home.
“I know he has ambitions in football and I hope he gets the right role.”
Scholes revealed in the same interview with the Mail that he applied to replace Warren Joyce as Manchester United’s under-23s manager, but was rejected in favour of Ricky Sbragia returning to the role, having left in 2005.
“I’ve seen him doing little bits of training sessions when we do things with the club here or with our academy and he just steps into a comfort zone,” Neville continued.
“He’s on the pitch. He steps into being him. He belongs on a football pitch, on a training pitch, with players. That’s Paul Scholes to me.”
