Former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake says everyone at the club expected the Dane to break into the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Ake explained that those involved with the Premier League champions knew it was only a matter of time before the club saw the best of the young defender.
Everyone knew, also at the Academy, how good he was. And when he went on loan he done really well, and has been doing well in the national team so I wasn’t surprised. He’s a really good player.
Both players were linked with moves away from the club in the summer with doubts about how much game time they would both get this season.
Ake returned to Bournemouth, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell during the first half of last season, while Christensen remained with the club.
A lot has been expected of Christensen following his return from a two-year spell with Borussia Monchengladbach, but head coach Antonio Conte has eased him into the starting XI.
A string of impressive performances has seen the Dane nail down a place as one of the regulars in a back three for Chelsea.
