Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has been discussing the recent reports linking David Luiz with a move to Real Madrid, the Mirror reports.
Luiz has been used rather cautiously by Conte. The Brazilian defender has not played in the Premier League since last month’s narrow win away at Bournemouth, but played in the recent 4-0 win away at Qarabag.
The likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have been preferred in recent weeks and have duly delivered when called upon, with the former netting in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Swansea on Wednesday.
Conte was asked the question as to whether or not Luiz had agreed a deal with Real Madrid, but was defiant in his response.
This week? No. I must be honest I don’t read this because I don’t have time to read, we are playing every three days so my focus is on the pitch, our preparation and my team.
These are speculations but we pass from my sacking to the Real Madrid [rumours]. We are very fast to pass these two different situations. My focus is only on Chelsea, I’m totally committed for this club and for my players.
Luiz has been nursing a knee injury and has been undergoing treatment, as he bids to return to fitness efficiently. The knock kept him out of the win against Swansea.
Conte was unsure when asked when Luiz would be able to return for Chelsea from his knee injury.
He’s having treatment in his knee. It’s not simple to understand how much longer [he will have this] injury but at the same time I think the doctors are doing the best to try and allow him to recover very soon.
