Paul Pogba has insisted that Manchester United need some luck with injuries to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title.
The Frenchman himself has just returned from a long-term hamstring injury that kept him out of action from mid-September until Saturday’s 4-1 victory against Newcastle United.
Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic replaced Anthony Martial for his first appearance in seven months, while Marcos Rojo, who also suffered ligament damage back in April’s UEFA Europa League tie with Anderlecht, returned on the bench. Marouane Fellaini, another key player, also came on as a sub to make it four back from injury for Jose Mourinho.
Pogba insisted United need a fit squad to compete with Man City to lift the title in May.
“To win the league we need all our players,” he told MUTV. “When you have one injured here, one injured there, it doesn’t help. It’s always better to have a full team.
“Zlatan’s back and Marcos after a long injury. It was hard for them but they kept believing and worked hard to come back. We need them to win the league and we’re really glad they’re here.”
United’s squad should be able to handle injuries. But losing Paul Pogba, the best player and most important player in the side was a huge blow. To then lose the player who replaced him in the side surprisingly well, Marouane Fellaini, was another massive blow and a real test of the side.
They’ve got through it, and are now eight points behind City, if they can now stay relatively injury-free, with midfield the main concern, then they can quickly try and catch up on their neighbours.
