Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard has heaped praise on teammate and friend Marcus Rashford during his latest interview.
The two academy products have gotten along on and off the pitch and Lingard has made it no secret of his admiration for his colleague.
Jesse originally broke into the first team earlier than Rashford has but it’s actually the young striker who has established himself more in the starting XI.
Marcus has 11 starts to his teammate’s four starts so far this season with it perhaps safe to say that Jose Mourinho trusts one player more than the other to perform.
To be fair to the versatile winger, he has more competition for spaces than perhaps the young forward does.
Speaking to Inside United, Lingard said: “I think the individual awards will come if he [Rashford] keeps carrying on what he’s doing.
“He’s scoring, he’s assisting, he’s in the team, which is where he wants to be, so the accolades will come for him I’m sure.
“His development has been huge. When we first saw him come on the scene, he was a little, skinny kid! He’s gained a lot of maturity, he’s filled out and he’s stronger and faster.
“I think you have to look at his shooting accuracy, his technique, the goals he’s scored, his assists – he’s become an all-round player.
“If he can keep developing like that and learning from all the experiences he has, there is no doubt he can become a top, top player.”
Rashford’s performances last season were marred by the lack of end product despite his promising displays in Mourinho’s debut year for the club.
The young England star was also hugely involved in the first team last year with Jose clearly favouring him ahead of perhaps more experienced players.
This season though things are different, Marcus has added goals and assists to his game and is even taking on set piece responsibilities.
He faces stiff competition from the hungry Anthony Martial but if he continues his good form then there’s no reason for the United manager to drop him.
Martial himself has performed admirably despite coming off the bench for the majority of his game time and has squeezed himself into the France senior squad set-up.
Both youngsters and Lingard will all have to be in fine form in order for the Red Devils to stand a chance in their challenge for silverware.
