Marcos Rojo has made public his aim to be back in action for Manchester United for their UEFA Champions League match against CSKA Moscow in December.
The Reds play FC Basel in the competition in a week’s time, but Rojo is still making his way back from a serious knee ligament injury suffered back in April.
Both the Argentine and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic were forced off in Man United’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final second-leg against Anderlecht with knee ligament damage.
“Tomorrow [Wednesday] I am going to play with the reserves in a friendly match,” Rojo revealed TyC Sports.
“I feel good. Up until now, I have not had any problems but training is not the same as a match.
“In three weeks we have a Champions League game and if all goes well tomorrow, I could play in that.”
Rojo knows he must get back playing for United soon and prove why he can hold down a regular position in Jose Mourinho’s backline if he’s to play for Argentina at next summer’s FIFA World Cup.
He’s played 54 times for his country, and is a regular, but wants to get his place back quickly.
“I have to win my place back in the team so that (Argentina) coach Jorge Sampaoli considers me for the World Cup,” Rojo added.
“I have been out a while but I am determined to get back into the national team. I want to show Sampaoli how good I am.”
United could do with the added squad depth and competition of Rojo’s return, having proved himself as one of the club’s best defenders last year.
