Paris Saint Germain attacking midfielder Javier Pastore has expressed his frustration at a lack of game time under Unai Emery, noting that he would assess options elsewhere ahead of the transfer window.
The Argentine, who joined the club back in 2011, has only made four starts for the French giants so far this season.
Eric Cantona recently encouraged Man United to opt for the 28-year-old, insisting he was worthy of wearing the currently vacant No.7 shirt at Old Trafford.
Speaking soon after PSG’s win over Monaco on Sunday night, where he only received eight minutes, Pastore couldn’t hide his disappointment.
“I was disappointed,” he said. “I always want to play, I do not play important matches like in the Champions League or today against Monaco. It was more or less like that all year long.
“I have already said it, I’m going to think about my future but the important thing is to try to help the team during the ten minutes that I enter the field.”
PSG are riding on a wave of vitality and disgusting amounts of money this season, with new signings Neymar and Kylian Mbappe forming the deadliest attack in the world alongside Edison Cavani whilst the likes of Julian Draxler and Marco Verratti inflict damage from in behind.
Their line-up against Monaco, for example, comprised of only three players you wouldn’t describe as offensive players – Adrien Rabiot, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos – and you can’t see why Emery would want to change a thing in this moment in time.
And this is a shame for Pastore. The attacking midfielder is simply too good to fester on the bench this season, as Cantona has pointed out in recent times.
He can feature as a high tempo No.10, picking up positions high up the pitch whilst ghosting out to either side in order to drag defenders with him and leave space. His precision around the final third considerably outstrips that of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, for one, and Mourinho could be swayed to move for him if Mesut Ozil decides to remain at Arsenal.
