Daley Blind fears that he’ll be moved on by Manchester United next summer after failing to make an impact on Jose Mourinho’s Premier League plans this season, according to reports.
The Dutchman, who featured regularly under Louis van Gaal, has not started any of Man United’s last 11 Premier League games.
His recent display during the 1-0 defeat to FC Basel, where he admitted his responsibility for their late goal, led to further calls for Jose Mourinho to place emphasis on signing a genuine left-back in January.
And according to the Times’ Paul Hirst, Blind now fears as if his Old Trafford career is coming to an end having only made nine starts in all competitions so far this term.
United are expected to activate a clause on the 27-year-old’s contract that keeps him at the club for another year, but this is only to ensure that any potential suitors have to pay a fee for his services.
The case of Blind is a difficult one because he has hardly looked out of place at this level since arriving in 2014, demonstrating an impressive measure of control and positional intelligence on the ball, yet we have to ask ourselves this question: could you imagine a player of Blind’s type – reliable, dedicated, limited in some aspects but a good squad player – making Manchester City’s, or even Chelsea’s, starting XI?
Blind has not done too much wrong since arriving, granted, but perhaps United ought to show more ambition, and this could mean he has to move along.
