"His preference would be...": Details of when injured United star can be expected back in action emerges

Manchester United’s long list of injuries have played a huge role in what has been an awful season for Erik ten Hag and his troops.

The United boss has seldom been able to pick his strongest team, which has resulted in some disastrous performances and ultimately left them languishing well behind the chasing pack in the Premier League.

Marcus Rashford is one of many first team stars currently on the treatment table and details of his injury have emerged.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the Englishman has been nursing two separate issues since leaving the Wembley field during the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City on April 21.

Bruised ribs and a bruised heel are the reasons behind Rashford’s absence for the last four games but the forward is expected to make his return before the FA Cup final.

Rashford was pictured back in first-team training last week and was expected to be named in the squad for the limp 0-1 home defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

However, the 26-year-old was left out once more but will want some minutes under his belt before the huge clash with Manchester City at the end of the month.

United have just two league games remaining, starting with the visit of Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Wednesday before travelling to Brighton to bring the curtain down on a season they will quickly want to put behind them.

It’s reported that Rashford’s preference is to come back for the trip down south on the final day which would mean he has played his last game at Old Trafford this season.

It may even be the case that Rashford never plays at the Theatre of Dreams again with rumours of a move away from Manchester rife, after a disappointing campaign.

Despite his poor individual form this year, Rashford does possess the ability to cause a threat to Pep Guardiola’s side in the final and Ten Hag will be desperate for him to be available on the day.

Ten Hag is expected to provide a further update on Rashford’s fitness in his pre-match press conference later today.

Video: "If I start to talk about that..." - Gareth Southgate responds to reports linking him to United

Gareth Southgate has described links between him and Manchester United as a “complete irrelevance” with his sole focus being the European Championship this summer in Germany, but did not fully rule out a return to club football in the future.

In an interview with ITV News, the England manager was asked about him being one of the bookmakers’ favourites to take over from Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. “I’m not a big gambling man, but bookies can make their odds. It’s not a conversation that’s been had with me,” he replied.

Southgate has been strongly linked with the United job since it emerged the club was actively pursuing Dan Ashworth to be the new sporting director at Old Trafford.

Ashworth, currently on gardening leave with Newcastle as the two clubs have been unable to agree a compensation package, has previously worked with Southgate in the England national set-up as a technical director. When Southgate was made manager of the Three Lions, following his work for the U21 side, Ashworth described him as the “outstanding candidate” for the role.

It appears to be a sentiment shared by INEOS – the new leaders of the football department at Old Trafford following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ratification as co-owner in February – who have made Ashworth a key part of their vision for transforming United.

The INEOS Sport team is headed by Sir Dave Brailsford, who has been conducting a comprehensive audit of the club in a bid to streamline and improve the sporting operation. Brailsford is a close friend and colleague of Ashworth who describes the INEOS Director as the “best in the world” at what he does.

Brailsford also holds a long-term connections with Southgate having worked as an advisor with the FA, with the England manager even being invited to his 60th birthday in March.

The links between all three man are, therefore, obvious; the type the rumour mill of football will always seek to play on if given the opportunity to do so. And United’s performances on the pitch this year have given ample ammunition for this to happen.

At the beginning of the year, Ten Hag’s position at Old Trafford was the strongest of any manager since Sir Alex Ferguson. He had guided the club back into the Champions League with a comfortable 3rd place finish in his debut season in English football. He had delivered the first trophy in six years with a Carabao Cup triumph. He’d even appeared to have successfully healed the wounds between the players and fans inflicted during the painful 2021/22 season.

In return, the club had fully backed the Dutchman, committing to another summer of huge spending at his behest. Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund were all signed for large fees while United spent the entire summer chasing Sofyan Amrabat to reunite the Moroccan with Ten Hag in a costly loan deal. United officials were more than happy to be guided by their manager.

In short, he was the Manchester United manager for the present and the future. But, nine months on, it feels almost a foregone conclusion he is a relic of the past; a dead man walking who will not be in charge beyond this month.

8th in the Premier League with a goal difference of -4 and fourteen losses. The most goals conceded in a season since 1971. A calamitous early exit from both the Champions League and the Carabao Cup. A string of performances which border on a team in the bottom three rather than hoping to be in the top four.

It’s been a truly awful season.

The prospect, however remote, of a successful FA Cup campaign by beating Manchester City in the final on May 25 is this year’s only saving grace. An embarrassing defeat is the far more likely result, however.

INEOS have refused to provide a definitive answer on Ten Hag’s long-term future at the club, instead choosing to make a decision once the season has finished. This lack of clarity off the pitch has undoubtedly produced a negative effect on the pitch, with United’s form absolutely torpedoing over the final few months of an abysmal year.

This does not exculpate Ten Hag of his role in these woes, with the Dutchman’s bizarre system – a completely contradictory high-press, low bock structure – as much of a contributing factor as the unrelenting injury list which has besieged his squad, but he has been forced to manage an almost unmanageable situation at times.

Nonetheless, an historically poor season for United will always result in the rumour mill going into overdrive on the manager not being long for this world. When you couple that with EURO 2024 being potentially Southgate’s last tournament, and his long-standing ties to two executive heavyweights (or soon to be in the case of Ashworth) at Old Trafford, you’re left with an easy narrative for the rumour mill and bookies to push.

It’s not a narrative Southgate is remotely interested in, however.

The England manager is adamant his only focus at present is having “as successful a tournament with England as possible”. Everything else outside of that, including links to Old Trafford, are described as a “complete irrelevance” to him.

When the interviewer questioned if he would rule out a return to club football further down the line, Southgate reiterated where his attention lies. “If I start talking about that, then I’m already distracted from what I’m doing. So I think the country would expect that my focus is on England, and rightly so,” he replied.

Perhaps most interestingly was Southgate’s response that he has had no “conversation” with United officials over the prospect of joining the club. You would expect the number one favourite for the role to have had some level of dialogue with his prospective new employers and Southgate is renowned for his honest approach.

Whether the links between England’s manager and England’s biggest club are genuine or simply the product of the rumour mill putting two and two together remains to be seen, but there feels little doubt there will be a vacant managerial position at Old Trafford come the end of the season should Southgate be interested in the job.

"Attractive option": Champions League club enters the egg-and-spoon race for Donny van de Beek - report

They’re queueing up to sign Donny van de Beek, but his agent won’t be impressed by who’s in that queue.

Manchester United signed the Dutchman for €39 million from Ajax in September 2020 and it looked at the time to be a superb signing. Van de Beek was one of the most coveted midfielders in world football at the time.

However, things did not work out as expected. Immersed in the chaos of Manchester United’s mismanagement, a series of endless injuries, unsuccessful loan deals and erratic form, the now 27 year old’s career has faltered and ground to a halt as we gallop towards the fourth anniversary of the day he signed.

His latest loan deal at Eintracht Frankfurt has been another disaster. He has only made eight appearances all season, with two starts, and the German club has long since decided not to exercise the option to buy that was included in the deal.

Propped up by the sentimentality of fond memories of his former glory days in Amsterdam, Ajax recently boldly nailed their colours to the mast and offered to kill the fatted calf for their prodigal son.

However, Van de Beek’s agent, Guido Albers, turned down the move, stating that “my preference was to look in Spain, France or Italy”.

Albers, therefore, will presumably similarly be turning down the latest club to throw their hat into the ring by virtue of their geography.

According to fichajes.net, Galatasaray “see in the Dutch midfielder an attractive option to strengthen its midfield and increase its competitiveness in the different competitions in which it participates.”

The report explains that Gala “hope to convince Van de Beek by offering him the opportunity to have a more constant participation and a relevant role in the team.”

There is plenty of time to sort out a new club for Donny before the new season starts, but it may be that Albers is not serving his client well by holding out for a starting number 10 role in one of Europe’s top leagues after the four years the player has had.

There have been murmurs of Real Sociedad and Inter Milan showing some interest, but nothing concrete has developed at this stage. A loan to Sociedad fell through previously and there may be big boots to fill there if Martin Zubimendi moves on. Meanwhile, opportunities could be limited in a successful and established Inter side which tends to operate with twin strikers rather than a number 10.

Of course, the option remains for Van de Beek to sit out the last year of his Old Trafford contract if nothing emerges to please him. However, that would almost certainly mean his spell in the wilderness will extend to five years and his stock could be so low that ships such as Ajax and Galatasaray might have sailed, too.

PL rivals set to beat United to key defensive signing after "intense" interest cools

Manchester United are expecting a busy summer with INEOS taking control of their first transfer window in charge of the sporting structure at the club.

The new minority owners will be in no doubt of the size of the rebuild required at Old Trafford after an appalling season from Erik ten Hag’s men.

Defensive issues have plagued United throughout the campaign and reinforcements at the back will be high on the to-do list for INEOS.

Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries was one of the names linked with bolstering United’s defensive options but a deal is now looking unlikely.

As reported by getfootball, Premier League rivals Aston Villa have emerged as favourites to sign the Dutchman.

Despite previous “intense” interest, United have now cooled their efforts to capture the 28-year-old.

Diogo Dalot has proved his worth at right-back this year, so-much-so that United can focus on other areas of the pitch that are in greater need of surgery.

This could leave the path clear for Villa to pounce, with Inter happy to do business at around €30 million.

A potential move to United “appealed” to Dumfries and it has been widely reported that he would be open to a move to the Premier League, although there is no confirmation on how interested he is in a move to the Midlands.

Villa are likely to secure Champions League football for next season, with Unai Emery enjoying an excellent season at the club. This could tempt Dumfries into a move.

United, on the other hand, have endured a torrid campaign and are facing a huge battle to secure any European football for next season.

Sunday’s limp defeat at home to Arsenal was another low point in Ten Hag’s second season that has left the former Ajax coach fighting for his future at the club.

"No one strong enough": How Ten Hag's dictatorial approach has led to increase in injuries - report

Manchester United have suffered over 60 separate instances of injury this season with the Red Devils currently languishing in eighth place in the Premier League.

Manager Erik ten Hag’s flawed chaos ball has been a huge factor behind this drop-off in form but the Dutchman has kept on publicly claiming that injuries have been the biggest mitigating factor behind his style of play not working.

While there is certainly some truth to this statement, it is the former Ajax coach’s methods in training that have come under the scanner as the injury crisis threatens to derail the season finale.

Harry Maguire is sidelined for three weeks while for the first time since joining United, skipper Bruno Fernandes ended up missing a game. The manager announced that Mason Mount has once again picked up a minor knock.

Injury issues at the club

United are already missing their first-choice back four and the game against Arsenal is expected to be another mishap waiting to happen with Ten Hag asking for his ‘walking wounded’ to step up and play through the pain barrier.

This is exactly how Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane picked up knocks so soon after regaining fitness with new co-owners INEOS conducting a probe into the Dutch boss’ training regimen.

PL Brasil have revealed that with no proper hierarchy before Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority investment, Ten Hag was free to run things as he wanted and that has caused further injury issues.

Players have complained about the manager’s training methods as well as running demands and the report claims that Ten Hag has never adjusted the training workload as per the schedule.

Players keep training like they were for the first game of the season even though fatigue has built up during the course of so many games.

EtH’s methods under the scanner

Players have even had their off days cancelled and despite airing their concerns to the coaching staff, nobody has managed to overrule the manager.

“Although the bloated English calendar is also to blame, internally, many athletes cite Erik Ten Hag’s training for the excess number of injuries.

“According to some, he makes the mistake of maintaining the same training load throughout the season, even if the accumulated fatigue is much greater in the final stretch.

“Exhausting sessions, canceling days off and complaining about training have been pertinent topics at United for some time.

“But if Ten Hag makes so many mistakes, is no one capable of correcting it? There are two main problems that go beyond the Dutchman. The first is that United are going through a transition and they do not have a sporting director.

“Without a director, Ten Hag commands and dismantles. The club made a deal with Dan Ashworth of Newcastle United, but the target is still spending his last few weeks at the club in the north of England. This means that there is no one strong enough to prune Ten Hag in the football hierarchy.

“And the second involves a structural problem at the club. The new owner, Jim Ratcliffe, has already given interviews about the precariousness he found in United’s facilities. The medical department is no exception.”

Medical team needs a revamp

The less said about the medical department the better. Players have even preferred going to their personal doctors for diagnosis or advice due to the inferior quality on offer at Carrington.

The medical team failed to spot Casemiro’s injury on time while they also allowed Varane and Jonny Evans to play on despite concerns which eventually saw them suffer long-term injuries.

INEOS are trying to fix things by getting the backroom staff in place ahead of the new season while the medical department is in the middle of an overhaul.

As for Ten Hag, the new co-owners have a huge call to make once the season ends. And player power is also certainly rampant that leads to extra criticism for any manager and that also needs to be pruned immediately.

New suitors "coming with everything" to sign Mason Greenwood from Man United

Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood is starting to make headlines ahead of the summer transfer window, both for his goals for Getafe and attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus have all monitored the Man United talent, who has been directly involved in 14 goals for Getafe in 29 La Liga appearances this term.

The Red Devils’ attack have appeared toothless all season, failing to trouble opposition defences on a regular basis, especially with Marcus Rashford struggling to replicate his prolific form of the 2022/23 campaign.

As such, Erik ten Hag could certainly do with Greenwood’s ball-striking ability.

However, as per MARCA, United intend to sell their academy product “no matter what.”

Fortunately for them, there are plenty of clubs open to adding the controversial forward to their ranks. The Spanish outlet says Barcelona, Atletico, Juventus, and Milan have all made enquiries concerning the 22-year-old’s situation.

However, now Saudi Arabia has joined the race for Greenwood’s signature.

MARCA claim the country is “betting the hardest” and is “coming with everything” to win the transfer battle for the Getafe star.

It is added that Greenwood wants to play in the Champions League, but United’s stance could hamper his hopes.

The Premier League giants, who reportedly want €60 million for the Englishman, are looking to raise cash by selling some of their stars to rebuild their side without breaking the Premier League’s PSR rules.

As such, they will sell Greenwood to the highest bidder; at this point, it appears it is going to be Saudi.

The Gulf state may end up helping United’s financial fair play concerns by also offering them a significant fee for Casemiro.

Recently, the Peoples Person relayed a report claiming SPL outfit Al Nassr are preparing a €40 million bid for the Brazilian midfielder.

Video: "You're in the wrong team": United legend fires warning at Ten Hag's lacklustre stars ahead of season finale

Manchester United legend David Beckham has warned that any United players who aren’t motivated for the FA Cup final are in the wrong team and playing the wrong sport.

The former midfielder enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Old Trafford, winning six Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and one Champions League at the club.

A United academy prospect, Beckham was the epitome of high standards, talent and work ethic back in the 90s and 2000s.

Sadly the 2024 version of United, whilst having the talent, severely lacks the work ethic and discipline required to grind out results under difficult circumstances.

This has resulted in Erik ten Hag’s side slipping to eighth in the table and losing a club record 13 matches in a single Premier League season.

There was a worrying report relayed by The Peoples Person that United’s players have “given up” and fear they will fail to win any of their remaining three crucial league games in addition to the FA Cup final against cross-city rivals, Manchester City.

Pundits have also laid into certain stars’ efforts with Marcus Rashford and Casemiro often being two of the most singled-out players for their poor displays.

Both players were vital as United ended their trophy drought last season but this term, they have been a shadow of their former selves.

Speaking at the premiere of the new 1999 Treble documentary, Beckham stated that he hoped the United manager wouldn’t have to do very much to motivate the players to seek revenge for last season’s final defeat to the same opponents.

“I think that’s the whole point of being a Manchester United player and playing in these big games you should be motivated. When you’re a professional footballer and you’re doing the job you love and you’re at the club you love, when you’re playing in any game, whether it’s a regular season game or whether it’s an FA Cup final against your rivals, that should be enough motivation.”

Drawing on his own experience as a seasoned winner at the club he stated, “And, if it’s not, then you’re in the wrong team and you’re playing the wrong sport.

“We went into every game, whether it was a youth cup game, a friendly game, off-season or a European Cup final, with the same mentality and the same drive and that’s what you’d hope that any team and any player for Manchester United go into an FA Cup final against Manchester City with enough motivation that the manager shouldn’t have to say much.”

It speaks volumes about the sad state of affairs at the club that fans have to genuinely worry about whether or not their players will be up for an FA Cup final but it is a very real concern.

In reality, there is still much to play for in the Premier League. Yes, Champions League football is out of reach but Europa League qualification is still very much within reach with three mouth-watering ties versus Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton still to play before attention can even switch to the FA Cup final.

Moreover, playing for the biggest club in England, if not the world, should be enough motivation for any player. If it is not, it is scary to think how much club standards have fallen under the incompetent Glazers.

One of the most vital aspects new owners INEOS are looking to change is the poor culture that has festered in the club for far too long and winning an FA Cup against their neighbours would be a strong way to enter what promises to be one of the most dramatic windows in the club’s recent history.

United's summer "priority" is to replace ageing superstar with €100m wonderkid - report

An injury-ravaged Manchester United suffered a humiliating 0-4 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace in their Premier League game at Selhurst Park on Monday.

With skipper Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire joining the ever-expanding injury list in the build-up to the game, manager Erik ten Hag was forced to pair Casemiro with Jonny Evans at the back.

This was the 14th different centre-back partnership this season and it is fair to say that the move did not work with the Brazilian, in particular, disappointing big time.

The former Real Madrid superstar was constantly out of position as he kept going to ground in a bid to win the ball back, forgetting that he was a centre-back and needed to support the recently-fit again Evans.

Casemiro out

Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze had a field day against the Brazil international and the display was another reminder to INEOS that they need to move the 32-year-old on in the summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe was far from impressed with the club’s decision to throw so much money at Casemiro and offer him a long-term deal considering his advancing years.

There is interest from Saudi Arabia, Turkey as well as from Italy and if the club can recoup half of what they paid for the defensive midfielder’s services, it would be seen as a good deal.

Portuguese daily Record have claimed that the 20-time English league champions have zeroed in on the perfect replacement should the Brazilian depart – Joao Neves of Benfica.

He is expected to cost around €100 million and is one of the most sought-after young midfielders in world football. The youngster could form a lethal long-term partnership with Kobbie Mainoo at the centre of the pitch.

It is well-known at this point that the Red Devils have been monitoring the Portuguese international for quite some time now and the outlet (via Sport Witness) claimed that the 19-year-old is the “priority to rejuvenate” the midfield.

The report mentions that while no official bid has been submitted, “this will be a reality in the short term”, indicating an offer will be tabled soon.

Joao Neves in as replacement

Benfica want to keep Neves for one more season and are much more open to the sale of central defender Antonio Silva, who is also a United target.

With Alvaro Fernandez expected to sign for the Portuguese giants in the summer, United could use that as a means to further their talks for the defensive midfield maestro.

Benfica had made it clear in January that they had not agreed any pre-agreement deal with United and it will be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford side actually go after both or choose one for now among the aforementioned duo.

A lot will depend on the eventual budget and INEOS will need to be smart with their recruitment as the club is in need of multiple players all across the park and they cannot afford to utilise the majority of their funds on one player alone.

"They tried their best to persuade me": PL starlet opens up on why he turned down January move to United

Bournemouth keeper Callan McKenna has revealed why he chose not to sign for Manchester United in January despite being on the cusp of a move.

The 17-year-old broke into the Queen’s Park first team and impressed scouts so much that he attracted interest from a host of English clubs.

The youngster eventually opted to sign for Bournemouth but it came as a shock as many had assumed he had already agreed to join the Red Devils.

It was reported at the start of the January window by sources in Scotland that McKenna was on the verge of joining Erik ten Hag’s side but evidently, a deal never materialised.

However, in a recent interview, the Scottish U-19 goalkeeper has outlined exactly what happened and interestingly expressed how close he really was to joining United.

Commenting in the Cherries’ official matchday programme (via the Daily Echo), McKenna delved into why he decided to move to the south coast over Manchester.

“A 15-minute Zoom call with (assistant technical director) Simon Francis and (head of goalkeeping) Neil Moss.”

The starlet then explained how close his deal to United was to being completed.

“I travelled to Manchester and met the people from Manchester United the day before deadline day. That night, I had the Zoom call and was invested in coming here.”

“The following morning, the guys from United came to take me to the training ground and I told them it wasn’t what I wanted.”

“They tried their best to persuade me, but I wanted to come here.”

He also revealed that he believed that he had a clearer pathway to the first team playing for the side from the Vitality Stadium than at Old Trafford.

“I thought I would be closer to the first team and you only need to look at some of the goalkeepers Bournemouth have brought through, like Mark Travers and Aaron Ramsdale.”

United have clearly been trying to bring in young talents from the UK, Europe and South America as of late, as the new owners are trying to tap into such markets in a way the Glazers have not.

On the one hand, youngsters will look at the opportunities the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have had and news of a 250th academy graduate making an appearance for the first team only enhances the club’s reputation as a prime spot to develop.

However, as McKenna alluded to, the bigger the club, the more big names are likely to be in your way to reach the first team, so many players would choose an objectively smaller club to enhance their own prospects of eventually reaching first team football.

Perhaps the young Scotsman will someday arrive to the level where the Red Devils come calling for his services once more.

"Meltdown...": United staff believe club legend could be primed to take over from Ten Hag - report

Manchester United staff believe Steve McClaren “could step in as caretaker” should Erik ten Hag’s position as manager become untenable before the end of the season.

The INEOS Sport team – who gained full control over the sporting operation at Old Trafford following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ratification as co-owner of the club in February – are content with the Dutchman remaining in charge until after the pivotal FA Cup final against Manchester City at the end of the month.

However, there has been zero indication from the club’s new rulers over their long-term support of Ten Hag, with the manner in which United finished the season – both in terms of results as well as performances – thought to be pivotal to any decision.

Which is why Monday night’s defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park will likely prove a death knell for the 54-year-old manager’s time at Old Trafford.

United were completely outplayed by a rampant Palace side who cut through a makeshift backline, comprised of an out-of-position Casemiro and an injured Jonny Evans, with ease, en route to a 4-0 demolition. Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta were imperious, but will not have faced an easier evening’s work this season.

While this disjointed defensive partnership offers some respite to criticism of Ten Hag’s team, it does not begin to excuse what an abject performance they produced as a collective. Yet it’s the type of match which has become customary this season.

If Monday night existed in isolation then it could conceivably be excused or dismissed as an off day, but it doesn’t.

There was little difference between the performance at Selhurst Park and the one six weeks ago at the Gtech Community Stadium, outside of clinical finishing.

Brentford were desperately unlucky to only come away with a point in a 1-1 draw, having hit the woodwork four times. With more care in front of goal, the Bees would have produced an even more dominant result over Ten Hag’s side than Palace, with the xG (expected goals) for both games underscoring  this.

xG – Brentford (3.11) 1-1 (0.51) Man Utd

xG – Crystal Palace (1.63) 4-0 (0.41) Man United

In the aftermath of the match at Selhurst Park, Paul Scholes and Michael Owen were apoplectic in their rage at Ten Hag, believing the result had to the straw which broke the camel’s back.

Owen was adamant the Dutchman “simply cannot manager the team next season” while Scholes revealed the match “felt very similar” to the 4-1 defeat away to Watford which marked the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure as United manager.

Interestingly, both former United stars supported the possibility of assistant coach McClaren taking over on an interim basis, believing Ten Hag was not “letting him touch that team” because McClaren was too good of a coach for a side under his stewardship to look as dismal as they did.

“We’ve played under Steve. He’s coached us. There’s no way his fingerprints are anywhere near that team. He’s a brilliant coach. And that team is not being coached at all. No way,” Owen revealed, with Scholes in full agreement.

And, according to Chris Wheeler (Daily Mail), the idea of McClaren taking over is one shared by staff at Old Trafford: “Ineos will let him stay in charge for the rest of the season, although it has been suggested among staff that Steve McClaren could step in as caretaker if the situation goes into meltdown.”

With the prospect of Arsenal and Newcastle in the next week and a final day trip away to Brighton, there are three separate opportunities for a United “meltdown” before the season-defining FA Cup final at Wembley on May 25. It’s perfectly conceivable, based on the continuation of (or lack thereof) performances against Brentford and Palace, that United lose all three remaining games in resounding fashion.

If that happens, INEOS may be forced to react earlier than planned, but they would not have to look outside of the Old Trafford dressing room for a short-term alternative.
