'Hot Potato': Man United given major boost as rumoured target asks to leave club

Rumoured Manchester United target Saúl Ñíguez has asked for an exit away from Atletico Madrid this summer, according to reports from Spain.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reported to be looking to strengthen in the defensive midfield department this summer and although Saul more often takes up the number eight role, he can certainly put in a good shift in a more defensive position.

Although Atleti won La Liga, Saúl didn’t have the best of seasons and ‘lost prominence’ at the club, although he finished strongly.

However this doesn’t mean that the Rojiblancos will be open to selling him cheaply this summer, even after securing rumoured target Rodrigo De Paul.

Considered a ‘hot potato’ by AS.com, Saúl is one of three players who are most likely to exit Atletico this summer, with Vitolo and Santiago Arias being the other two.

‘Saúl is going to be the soap opera of the summer at Atlético,’ AS reports.

‘The player has permission from the club to leave as long as the deal leaves a significant amount of money in their coffers.

‘At 26, he has a contract until 2026 and his clause is €150 million [£129m].

The Spaniard has been at the Wanda Metropolitano since 2008.

The Red Devils aren’t the only club that are being heavily linked to the player, with neighbours Manchester City and rivals Liverpool also in the mix.

The midfielder has a contract that runs until 2026 and with a market value of £34 million, it seems unlikely that any club will meet that £129m release clause.

However, at a more realistic price closer to market value, United could very well be tempted to take the plunge for a player who has been on their radar for some time.

Burnout: Twitter defends under-fire United star for Euro 2020 performances

Within minutes of Portugal’s elimination from Euro 2020, the sharpened knives had already come out for Bruno Fernandes.

It’s true that the midfield talisman didn’t have a great tournament and the Sqawka stats that were dropped with merciless aplomb pretty much summed up his modest contribution to a flagging national side:

‘Bruno Fernandes was dribbled past three times against #BEL, more than any other #POR player.

He only came on in the 55th minute.’

Yet, it’s ironic that a man who is often criticised for stat-padding by rival fans should end up being damned by stats alone following an entire team’s dismal failure at a major championships.

Criticism is something Fernandes has faced down for much of the last calendar year. It’s a year that has seen the United star play a frankly ridiculous 83 games in all competitions, a workload that would stretch even the fittest of players.

However, buried among the predictable schadenfreude, there was context and nuance to be found.

The Peoples Person started the ball rolling, Tweeting:

The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell noticed that Fernandes had made a difference when he was introduced from the bench:

‘Bruno Fernandes made a difference when he came on. Not everything went right – shooting mainly, occasionally on different wavelength to team-mates – but he created chances, hit some quality passes + sprinted everywhere.

Another Twitter user commented on Fernandes’ possible burnout and the need for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer to better protect his flagging stars next season:

Meanwhile Paddy Power questioned Fernandes omission from the Portugal starting lineup:

United fans will already have spotted signs of fatigue towards the end of the club season. The midfield hotshot had started to become slightly less productive and his constant desire to press opposition defences had started to look more hopeful than expectant.

In short, his mental commitment was being undermined by the realities of what his body could endure.

100% commitment is an essential part of Bruno’s game. Aside from the skill, vision and effectiveness, it’s his astonishing work-rate that really stands out during games.

But playing with maximum intensity for over 80 games in a calendar year is an unenviable burden for even the fittest of players and, eventually, something has to give.

Hopefully he can get some much-needed rest and come back into a replenished United side that allows him the regular breaks he needs to remain such a potent and dynamic player.

It’s the least he deserves for running through the pain barrier on so many fronts, for so long.

A deal to bring Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho to Manchester United is expected to be completed soon, Ruhr Nachrichten have confirmed.

The England winger has been United’s top target for over a year but negotiations have proven difficult.

There have been so many reports and claims about bids that may or may not have been made and may or may not have been rejected that fans have become weary.

United legend Gary Neville tweeted last week said ‘I’ve never been more bored by a transfer in my life.’

But the good news is that the local Dortmund outlet is considered the definitive source for news related to the club and is finally speaking positively in terms of a resolution of the deal in an article published this morning.

‘The latest signals from Manchester leave little room for doubt: United will meet Borussia Dortmund’s demands,’ reporter Sascha Klaverkamp says.

‘BVB has called for a non-negotiable 90 million euro transfer fee [£77m] plus bonus payments for Jadon Sancho – and should get them.

‘According to information from Ruhr Nachrichten, a transfer agreement between the clubs is approaching, Manchester have gradually increased their offer and the 90 million mark is now in sight.’

Klaverkamp also reveals that Dortmund have found their replacement for Sancho, PSV Eindhoven’s Noni Madueke.

Madueke, a product of Spurs’ youth system, is another player in the Sancho mould: 19 years old, English, and has represented his country at every level from Under-16 to Under-21.

Eindhoven are expected to demand £17 million for the player.

Casey Stoney departure sparks mass exodus from Manchester United

Manchester United have recently announced the departures of Amy Turner, Christen Press, and Tobin Heath.

The trio join Jessica Sigsworth and Jane Ross who have also been released upon the end of their contracts, along with manager Casey Stoney who announced her resignation last month.

Upon their departure, the club the said they “would like to thank them and wish them the best of luck.”

Only signing on one year deals, the departure of the American duo comes as no surprise as they were only expected to stay while the NWSL was not operating during 2020.

Having both scored four goals last season, Press and Heath are joining up with the United States Olympic team to compete in Tokyo next month.

Following the Olympics, the duo are expected to return to NWSL clubs. Their rights are currently held by Racing Louisville, who picked them both in the 2020 NWSL Expansion Draft.

However, it has not been confirmed if they will join Racing Louisville or seek a trade of their rights to another club.

Amy Turner, a stalwart in the back line making 24 appearances last season will be joining them in America having signed for Orlando Pride.

A bitter blow to the side, who finished fourth last season, the club mutually agreed with Turner to not activate the optional year extension on her contract.

Turner’s move is believed to be motivated by wanting to be close to her partner, Angharad James, who has also recently moved across the pond, joining North Carolina Courage.

Moving in the other direction, United have been linked with Martha Thomas from West Ham, Aoife Mannion of Manchester City and free agent Vilde Bøe Risa recently of Sandviken in Norway.

With such large upheaval in the squad, supporters of the men’s side may be shocked at what is happening. But such movement is nothing new in the women’s game.

Due to the low salaries and typically short term contracts, squad upheavals are a regular occurrence. Last season United made eight signings and had seven departures by comparison.

So the large exodus should not be a cause for concern just yet, but the continuing failure to replace Casey Stoney at the managerial helm does raise issues for supporters.

Manchester United have been linked with numerous defensive midfielders, such as Wilfred Ndidi, Ruben Neves, and Declan Rice, and for good reason.

Unleashing the talents of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes was always going to require some solidity behind them to make it happen.

That doesn’t even include the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani, and Mason Greenwood, let alone the potential newcomer Jadon Sancho.

United’s current midfield options of Fredn.com/tag/scott-mctominay/” target=”_blank” title=”” >Scott McTominay, Fred, Donny van de Beek, and Nemanja Matic hardly put fear into opposition attackers either.

It could also be argued, quite easily, that none of them other than the experienced Serbian is a natural defensive midfielder.

Unfortunately, Matic is past his prime and doesn’t provide the same type of high-level solidity as he did in his younger years.

As can be seen above, Liverpool’s Fabinho excels most in certain attributes but it could be argued that Neves is the more all-rounder of the whole group.

Interestingly enough, the Portuguese midfielder is probably more available now than he’s ever been during his time at Wolves.

United have been linked but only weakly, despite some fans demanding that the club should pounce at the opportunity to sign him.

After all, Ndidi and Rice will be expensive acquisitions even if they’re somehow available, whereas Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante is untouchable.

Undoubtedly, if Pogba could choose his partner in midfield, he would choose his French compatriot, and fans probably would do the same too.

Debunked: Why Man United can feel more confident in Varane pursuit

Manchester United are not necessarily breaking the bank to sign Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane as it appears the reports stating the fees involved seem questionable.

The sensational Frenchman is said to be on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s transfer wishlist but the deal seems a little complicated at the minute.

The current understanding is that Madrid are in debt and can’t convince Varane to stay, leading to the possibility of a sale.

United are obviously keen on his signature but the Spanish giants are undoubtedly asking for a lot of money, with some fees being reported at €80m.

The uncertainty over it all, and the focus on the potential transfer of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, has seen this saga sit on the backburner.

According to Football Espana, Varane earns €12m annually and it’s because he wants double that in his new contract that Madrid have to sell.

However, those figures don’t seem to be accurate and The People Person have previously covered how he’s actually earning around €7m.

What the La Liga giants have actually offered is €9m, though United are willing to offer €12m he’s asking for.

These numbers seem way more in line with what’s been going on between all parties and is certainly more realistic.

€24m is a sensationally large number that most clubs simply can’t afford to spend, particularly after the effects the global health crisis have had on football’s finances.

Varane seems to be an attainable player but Madrid will have to lower their asking price, particularly since they’re the more desperate party.

The Red Devils can potentially get a top player if they play their cards right and show some transfer know-how rather than the naivety of previous years.

Man United star recommends international teammate to Solskjaer: report

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up a surprise move for River Plate’s Nicolas De La Cruz as they look to bolster their midfield.

The Uruguayan international has seen his name suddenly linked with the club of late as it looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spread his scouting net far and wide.

United may not have much money left for a midfielder if they manage to get their first choice targets in Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

If that proves to be the case then pinching a player from South America for cheap does make sense in that regard.

However, there are question marks over whether this is the right move to make for Solskjaer as perhaps a different type of midfielder is needed.

According to TNT Sport, the Red Devils or Fiorentina could make an approach for De La Cruz soon, though they will have to part with between €16m-€20m to pry him away.

TNT Sport also claim that Edinson Cavani was the one to recommend his international teammate to the club.

The pair are away on duty for the Copa America and if a move happens then it would be the second summer in a row that Manchester United sign an Uruguayan.

De La Cruz is typically an attacking midfielder, though he can play in central midfield as well as left wing.

His versatility might prove useful but he’s otherwise not really the holding midfielder United were said to be keen on bringing in.

After all, it’s understood West Ham’s Declan Rice is Solskjaer’s first choice so it doesn’t quite add up that De La Cruz is the second choice.

This certainly throws doubts into the legitimacy of these reports from South America and perhaps it all stems due to his contract running out in December 2022.

'One trick pony': Star's Euro 2020 performance leaves United fans cold

Manchester United fans are divided about what should be done with winger Daniel James this summer.

James was a bit-part player for most of the 2020/21 season but put in an excellent showing in Euro 2020 for Wales, topping the charts for chances created after the group stages of the tournament.

But with United reportedly poised to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho for the right wing and with the prodigious Amad coming through, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to decide what the future should hold for the Welsh whippet.

Followers of The Peoples Person Facebook page were therefore asked, ‘What next for Dan James? Was his Euro 2020 showing good enough to persuade you he should be in Solskjaer’s United squad next season?

‘If not, do you think he should be sold, or loaned?’

Those in favour of keeping James at United said:

‘I definitely think that Dan James should play a part in Ole’s future plans because of his searing speed on the pitch.’

‘Decent young player, should always be an option off the bench, could very easily play right wing back in a 5. If he’s happy to be a squad option off the bench/start League Cup games then great, it’s a squad game.’

‘I would still keep him in the squad, train him harder on finishing and passing.’

‘He’s a good squad player, could be an impact sub with his pace. We never pay much for him and he’s not on high wages…..we won’t get hurt keeping him.’

‘James is definitely improving and the Euros is the example. He’s good back up winger.’

Those who believe James should be loaned out said:

‘Will probably do him good to go on loan this season. He’s a decent player with pace, we don’t really want to give up on him yet.’

‘I think he should be loaned out to a premiership side to gain more experience. He’s only gonna be on our bench.’

‘I feel a season long loan to another Premier League side or a club in one Europe’s top divisions, where he can play first team football consistently, might be the best option.’

‘Loaning him will offload pressure on his shoulders. Man Utd expects more than he can offer. The inclusion of Sancho will mean almost 3 games per season for him.’

Those who feel the 23-year-old should be sold said:

‘Sold, we keep too much dead wood! He hardly gets game time as it is. Presume we get Sancho he’ll be even further down the pecking order.’

He will be great in an underdog team who play purely on the break but with Sancho coming in, Amad, Shola, even Pellestri to name a few I feel like he should be moved on. Raphael Varane given major warning about completing transfer to Manchester United

Former Chelsea and France star Frank Leboeuf has questioned Raphael Varane’s proposed move to Manchester United.

Varane has rejected Real Madrid’s overtures around a contract extension and is said to be looking to leave the Spanish side.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s determination to recruit a centre-back partner for Harry Maguire has led to the France international being strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford.

And The Peoples Person recently covered The Independent’s claims that the centre-back has his heart set on a switch to United this summer.

However, Leboeuf is unconvinced that the move would be in Varane’s best interests.

Speaking to ESPN, the former Chelsea ace said, “We know the history of Man United but we are talking about the past.”

On United’s current status in the English game he added, “They finished in second place in the league but I’m not sure it’s a goal for everyone to go to Manchester United now unless they have three or four new signings coming in…so they can challenge Manchester City and Liverpool next season.”

It’s a seemingly fair question that doesn’t actually hold up to scrutiny.

The club’s post-Ferguson failings have been much publicised. However, the current group is on a clear upward trajectory, with a young and talented pool of players forming the nucleus of the what could be the next great United side. Genuine success feels tantalisingly close.

This summer the club has been (unusually) active in identifying a host of top targets, with the capture of the hugely exciting Jadon Sancho starting to seem like a formality.

Elsewhere, the rumour mill suggests Sancho isn’t the only high-class target, with the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Declan Rice, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Kieran Tripper and Varane himself all thought to be on Solskjaer’s lengthy wish list.

Then there’s the Liverpool-factor. After a farcical attempt to defend their Premier League title ended with an ignominious race to scrape into the Champions League on the final day, the Anfield outfit are themselves no longer a guarantee of success.

With further investment likely, how many people would argue against Solskjaer’s promising side being the most likely to challenge Manchester City for major honours over the coming seasons?

From Varane’s perspective, he has the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, in the most watched league and in front of the biggest crowds.

All this at a time when English football seems to be entering a new era of European dominance.

Man Utd make massive U-turn with £130k pw contract offer for outcast - report

Manchester United have offered Jesse Lingard a new three year contract according to the Daily Star.

With an option to trigger an extension for a further year on top, the deal would also increase Lingard’s salary to £130,000-a-week.

Largely expected to be heading for the exit door after his loan with West Ham, latest reports suggest Lingard may have convinced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give him another opportunity.

The Daily Star says “the Hammers are struggling to meet United’s £25 million asking price for Lingard – and his £110,000-a-week wages. Now United have further complicated that situation by putting a new improved contract on the table – worth £130,000-a-week over the next three seasons.”

Having previously reported Lingard’s hopes of rebuilding his United career, the chance may yet be given to the attacking midfielder.

However, while the England international will overjoyed with a new deal, the news of a new offer will have supporters left in dismay.

After Lingard’s impressive spell with West Ham, the possibility of his return has been a topic of discussion with supporters and very few are excited by the prospect despite his increased form.

The news of a new deal for Lingard will also be raising concerns in regard to the decision making from United’s hierarchy.

With the appointment of John Murtough as director of football recently, the expectations have been to see a better handling of contract situations for fringe players.

Notably, failures in this regard include Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo who were signed to long term deals on high wages after failing to perform and then subsequently continued to offer very little to Ole’s side.

A new deal for Lingard on improved wages will show an example of United’s board changing very little but in name.

With reports suggesting the academy graduate’s wages are already currently too high for West Ham, an increase will only make a future transfer even more unlikely and reduce any possible transfer fee received on top of that.

This means that the move is destined to become a repeat of the Jones and Rojo situations if it is to be completed.

Tier 1 journalist confirms United’s move for midfielder, negotiations to begin

Reports that Manchester United are interested in Rennes’ teenage prodigy Eduardo Camavinga have been confirmed by an extremely reliable source in France today.

The source, RMC’s Mohamed Bouhafsi, also says that the Red Devils are set to meet with the 18-year-old’s entourage this week to discuss a transfer.

We reported earlier today that The Mail claim that United are now ‘weighing up an approach’ for the 18-year-old and that ‘Rennes are willing to cash in now rather than risk him becoming a free agent.’

And Bouhafsi’s information has expanded on that quite considerably.

‘As announced here 1 month ago, Manchester #United has officially expressed interest in #Camavinga,’ the reporter tweeted today.

‘Man United will meet his entourage next week to convince him to join United.

‘#PSG remains the player’s priority. He would like to stay in France.’

PSG’s own position on signing the talented youngster is unclear, having recently signed Gini Wijnaldum from Liverpool, although Leonardo is said to be ‘monitoring’ the player.

Camavinga is entering the last year of his contract with Rennes and had been extensively linked with Real Madrid in the past.

However, the Spanish side have been hit hard by the financial effects of Covid-19 and their interest in the young star appears to have cooled.

Another club linked with an interest, Arsenal, have made no contact according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The star’s market value is £47 million (via transfermarkt.com) but unless Rennes can attract a bidding war, they may have to reduce his price considerably.

Last summer, prices in excess of that amount were being touted and it was reported that United valued him at about half of the same amount. Given the circumstances, John Murtough and co. may believe they can land the starlet for something around the £35 million mark this time around.

Camavinga’s agent is Jonathan Barnett at Stellar Sports, who also represents Jack Grealish, Luke Shaw and Saul Niguez, among others.

Although still only 18, the Angola-born player has already amassed plenty of experience, with 82 games under his belt in Ligue 1 and three caps for France.

Manchester United are set to move for teenage prodigy Eduardo Camavinga after they have completed the transfer of Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

The French starlet, dubbed ‘the next Pogba’, has been on United’s radar for some time but had been thought to be heading for Real Madrid.

However, The Mail is reporting that United are now ‘weighing up an approach’ for the 18-year-old and that ‘Rennes are willing to cash in now rather than risk him becoming a free agent.’

Camavinga is entering the last year of his contract with the French side but with los Blancos struggling to overcome the financial effects of Covid-19 and needing to fill other positions, they may have taken their eye off the ball.

The Angola-born star is arguably one of the most talented teenage midfielders in the world right now.

‘United missed out on a deal for Borussia Dortmund and England player Jude Bellingham last year and see Camavinga as a more than able alternative,’ The Mail says.

‘United’s Paul Pogba referred to Camavinga as “a little dancer” when he welcomed him into the France squad and the teenager only has one year left on his contract.’

Camavinga’s market value is £47 million (via Transfermarkt.com) but unless Rennes can attract a bidding war, they will have to slash his price considerably this summer if they do not want him to walk away for nothing in 12 months’ time.

His agent is Jonathan Barnett at Stellar Sports, who also represents Jack Grealish, Luke Shaw and Saul Niguez, among others.

United’s desperate need for a world-class holding midfielder is well-documented. Camavinga, although capable of playing further up the pitch, is a specialist in the role.

Of course, with any youngster there is an element of a gamble and many United fans might prefer that the Reds strengthen with a more experienced player, such as Wilfred Ndidi, Ruben Neves, Declan Rice or Manuel Locatelli.

But for a player of his age Camavinga already has plenty of experience, having been capped three times for France – and became les Bleus’ second youngest ever goalscorer in October 2020 when he found the net in his second game against Ukraine.

Manchester United star Amad Diallo has the kind of attitude fans will love, after insisting he will be patient and fight for his place in the starting XI.

The young Ivorian was signed last summer £19.17m according to Transfermarkt, though it’s understood there are add-ons involved too.

However, Diallo didn’t meet up with his club teammates until January earlier this year due to some paperwork issues.

Many supporters were excited by the time he finally arrived in Manchester as the need for a talented right-winger was blatantly obvious by that stage.

As sensational as he was, it was also obvious he was still a raw talent, though he’s expected to make more starts next season.

According to the club’s official website, Amad said: “It’s not my style to rush things. I know that I am young, that I need to develop slowly and just focus on improving myself each day, so I am patient and I know that if I do all the right things, my chances will come.”

He later added: “I need to develop slowly but surely. I need to listen to my coaches’ advice and, when I get more chances to play in United’s first team, it will be up to me to show my worth and show that they did not make a mistake when they bought me.

“When my chance comes along, I will be ready take it, but I will take my time. I’m not rushing anything. This is who I am and it’s working well for me so far.”

Even though Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho is expected to join this summer, no one truly feels that will threaten Diallo’s chances in the first team.

In fact, he’s the perfect understudy to the sensational Englishman and fans will feel like the position has true depth for the first time in a couple of years.

Diallo’s versatility should also come in handy for him as he can play on either wing and behind the striker if need be.

Rumoured Manchester United target Jules Koundé could be about to land a transfer to the Premier League, but it isn’t good news for United fans.

Over the past couple of months, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been trying to resolve his centre-back issues as a couple of players are being moved out of the club on loan and the urgency now increases to find a replacement.

Koundé has been rumoured to be on the shortlist, however he isn’t reported to be the top priority, as the talks with Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane intensifies.

Man United could lose out on Koundé who is seen as an alternative candidate at this point of time as fellow Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have been very heavily linked to the centre-back.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are up there with the top clubs linked to the player this summer and who find him “highly appreciated”.

Kounde’s release clause is €80m and Sevilla have served notice that they do not want to sell him for less than this amount.

Tottenham are not the only club interested in Koundé as Chelsea have also been linked to the player.

According to Sport Witness, Chelsea are in a strong position to land the player if he were to move to the Premier League.

It’s believed in England that a deal could be done for €65m, but that is unlikely given Sevilla rejected €55m from Manchester City last year, and the player has done nothing but improve since then.

Chelsea remain favourites despite their established back line, which manager Thomas Tuchel has created since he joined the club.

Thiago Silva turns 37 this September and so Tuchel could well have one eye on bringing in a natural replacement for him.

Sevilla are reportedly not aware of any movement regarding Koundé but the feeling is at some point, a Premier League club will come asking.

Fans of the Red Devils will be wondering what this means though and many feel he would be a better long term solution than other targets, Raphael Varane and Pau Torres. They may find themselves disappointed that United are so far behind in the pecking order when it comes to Koundé.

United fans shouldn’t be too worried though because there are many more alternatives to Varane such as Sven Botman and of course Varane’s former centre-back partner at Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos, who is currently looking for a new club.

Transfer stunner: Ancelotti pinpoints the surprise United star needed for Real rebuild

Portuguese daily Correio da Manha has linked Spanish giants Real Madrid with a surprise move for Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot.

The news, covered by Sport Witness, comes amid mounting reports that Dalot could be back in the first team picture at Old Trafford as a result of failed negotiations for Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier.

Trippier was thought to be United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s first choice attacking alternative to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the two clubs are reported to be poles apart regarding the fee.

United are said to value Trippier at no more than around £10m, whereas Atletico value him at closer to £30m. With the player seen as a vital part of Diego Simeone’s La Liga champions, a move now seems unlikely.

It’s a sign of the unpredictability of the summer window that such contradictory reports should drop within a few hours of each other.

Earlier today The Peoples Person covered the abandoned Trippier chase and discussed the likelihood of Dalot providing the cheap, in-house alternative.

The Portuguese youngster had a promising loan spell with Milan last season, playing 32 games, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

Milan were keen to retain his services and have been trying to thrash out a new agreement since the close of the season.

Their chances of success are likely to have narrowed with news of United’s refusal to pay through the nose for Trippier.

Although Real Madrid’s interest comes out of left-field, the reports originate from Dalot’s home country, so might have a thin veneer of credibility.

The report says that Los Blancos were interested in the versatile full-back before he joined United back in 2018. New coach Carlo Ancelotti is said to be driving the revived interest.

The outlet doesn’t suggest that a bid is imminent, instead stating that he is an ‘option’. There’s nothing more concrete and the fact that Real are well covered on both sides of defence is pretty much glossed over.

Over the next week or so, Dalot is likely to get the chance to prove his quality under the bright lights of Euro 2020.

The 22-year-old was only drafted into the national squad at short notice following Joao Cancelo’s withdrawal due to a positive coronavirus test.

Just this week he made his full senior debut against France, coming on for the injured Nelson Semedo and holding his own.

It’s a great opportunity for the youngster to show how much he’s improved in Serie A, and how ready he is to take his stop-start career to the next level for both club and country.

Desperate: Lacklustre Man United star needs Solskjaer to change questionable methods

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes needs his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make better decisions in the future for the overall health of the squad, including his own.

The Portuguese magician has been a phenomenon since arriving at the club and it’s near impossible to criticise him without sounding silly.

However, Bruno has looked more human of late, even before his lacklustre performances at the Euros, and it’s led to some to look into why that’s the case.

The former Sporting Lisbon man can’t be accused of just enjoying a purple patch of form since his performances have been at a high level for such a long period of time.

The question for Solskjaer is how he gets him back to that level and why he even dropped in the first place.

According to The Athletic, since a little over a year ago, Bruno has played a mighty 84 games for his club and country, featuring in 93% of all available minutes for the Red Devils in his opening 12 months at the club.

His total minutes’ count comes up to 6,641 minutes and given how his longest break was just the 19 days between the two seasons last summer, it’s no surprise the goals and assists have dried up.

In fact he’s looked so leggy that The Peoples Person covered how Graeme Souness criticised Bruno for his lack of effort and attitude.

The risky playmaker has suffered from some questional fitness management by Solskjaer who seemingly refuses to drop him, even when he so clearly looked like he ran out of steam.

It’s a problem the legendary Norwegian has not dealt with all season, even when it comes to Bruno’s teammates, many of whom have been carrying knocks such as Marcus Rashford, Donny van de Beek and Victor Lindelof.

Solskjaer’s policy seems to be one that means so long as a player makes himself available to the team, he will be used to full capacity.

It’s as though he prefers Bruno at 50% fitness than Van de Beek at 100% fitness for example which is ok when it’s done once in a while but not throughout a season.

The argument is that United’s backup players are just not good enough and while that’s true, the current methods have proven detrimental in the long run anyways.

Even if Solskjaer doesn’t trust them, he has to show he trusts the squad fully and rotate better to ensure his best players are fit and firing at all times, especially when needed.

Manchester United are reportedly open to some rather shocking sales as the likes of Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek face uncertain futures.

The talented Frenchman has endured a horrid season, suffering from both form and injury as he lost his starting XI spot to Edinson Cavani.

In fact, the situation got so bad that rumours emerged claiming United want to sign a striker before the experienced Uruguayan opted to extend his stay.

Van de Beek only arrived at Old Trafford last summer but has already seen his name linked with numerous clubs across Europe.

The former Ajax man has struggled to break into the starting XI regularly and his lack of minutes, despite signing for a relatively high fee, has seen doubts over his future grow.

According to ESPN, the Red Devils believe any player has a realistic valuation and so some squad members could be set to leave if clubs show a genuine interest in them.

The likes of Van de Beek and Martial were not said to be untouchable while players like Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard, and Diogo Dalot all have uncertain futures ahead of them.

Transfer hijack: United attempt last minute coup for talented winger

Manchester United have attempted to thwart Ajax to the signing of Kamaldeen Sulemana with a last minute deal according to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf.

Sulemana is a 19 year old winger currently at Danish club Nordsjælland and is already a fully capped senior international for Ghana.

A pacy forward, Sulemana typically operates from the left but has shown great versatility in Denmark performing all across the front three.

Speaking on a De Telegraaf podcast, Verweij said “It’s a complicated story. Ajax are out with Nordsjaelland, but Manchester United seem to be too.”

Likening the situation to Richarlison, who was close to signing for Ajax before joining Watford in 2017, Verweij points to higher agent commissions in the Premier League as being a leading factor in any possible move to Manchester.

Already in Amsterdam set to complete the deal to Ajax, Sulemana’s medical is reported to have been postponed, potentially due to the interest from Manchester United.

Speaking recently on the future move, Nordsjaelland manager Flemming Pedersen has said “Kamaldeen has to choose from the options he has, and he has had to do so for a while. So it’s up to him, and I think he is in the process of investigating a little different things, and he would like to visit some places and so on before he makes his final decision.”

Picking up 10 goals and eight assists in the recent season, Sulemana has shown good end product but it is his skilful dribbling which sets him apart and garnered comparisons to Neymar.

As per Fotmob, the Ghanaian led the Superligaen with 4.2 dribbles per match, far ahead of the second most of 2.3 dribbles by Tosin Kehinde, coincidentally a former United academy graduate.

If United pull off the last minute steal, Sulemana will be joining an already large group of left sided forwards at the club.

However, an immediate space in the squad for the youngster may not be required as he may struggle to obtain a work permit and will have to be loaned out.

A recent change in the FA’s points based system, re-allocating the Danish Superliga to a band 4 league, compared to it’s band 5 allocation in January, will increase Sulemana’s chances but it may still not be enough.

Due to being a regular for Nordsjaelland, Sulemana will gain 12 points of the required 15 for a work permit. But with only two caps for Ghana and Nordsjaelland not qualifying for European competition, he will not pick up points elsewhere.

Therefore, any potential signing may require supporters to wait before they see their new man donning the red of Manchester.

Manchester United have reportedly been given a major boost in their pursuit for talented French defender Raphael Varane.

The centre-back has been with his current club for a decade now and has won just about everything for club and country, including four Champions League titles, three Spanish league championships and the 2018 World Cup.

There is a potential stumbling block when it comes to Varane’s contract, with reports claiming that he is demanding a salary of more than £400k per week. United will not want to revisit past mistakes after the Alexis Sanchez situation, which the club is still recovering from.

United signed Sanchez from Arsenal on a massive £560,000 per week salary but his form and injuries prevented him from ever hitting the heights at Old Trafford.

French club Paris Saint-Germain are rumoured to be very interested in Varane as well, so any hesitation by United could allow his head to be turned.

However, if The Independent’s report is true, the player may well rebuff other offers in the hopes of clinching his dream move to Old Trafford.

With Varane still competing in the European Championships and United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho still ongoing, fans might have to wait until the middle of July when everything has cooled down a little bit for a deal to be done.

Paul Pogba to Real Madrid could be back on after Kylian Mbappe defeat

Real Madrid have reportedly broken off their pursuit of PSG’s Kylian Mbappe this summer, which could have major implications for Manchester United’s transfer window.

According to Cadena Ser, los Blancos ‘see it as impossible to sign Mbappé this summer’.

‘The royal family of Qatar is not going to let Kylian Mbappé leave Paris,’ the outlet says.

‘The owners of the Parisian club do not see any competitive offer that, under the current circumstances, los Blancos can offer.

‘Next year they are going to put an astronomical amount on the table for Mbappé to renew.’

PSG’s owners have already stated that they would not sell Mbappé and would not allow him to leave for free next summer. Whilst this seemed like it was a negotiating position, Real Madrid are now accepting it as true.

This affects United in a number of ways.

First and foremost, if Real want to make a big signing this summer, it pushes United’s Paul Pogba one place higher in the list of priorities. Los Merengues’ interest in Pogba had appeared to be demoted to third place behind that of Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, but the Norwegian, too, has been taken off the market this summer by his current owners.

Pogba’s brilliant showing at Euro 2020 could therefore not have come at a better time. Madrid, in need of a saviour, know that the Octopus’s dream is to play for them.

If the United man continues to shine at the tournament, there is every possibility that Real president Florentino Perez could come back in for a player he knows he can get for significantly less than the five figure sums being quoted by United last time around.

The Red Devils do not want to lose Pogba, but with a year left on his contract, they would rather sell than get nothing for him next summer. His agent, Mino Raiola, has reportedly asked for an astronomical increase in his current £285,000 salary – figures close to £500,000 per week have been touted.

The figure will likely be much lower for Madrid.

The other factor in this is United’s pursuit of los Blancos’ defender Raphael Varane. The Frenchman reportedly wants to leave the Bernabeu and has not signed any of the contract offers on the table.

With both clubs valuing their stars at around €80 million (£69m), a swap deal could be a very plausible solution for both clubs. This idea has been resisted by Real before as they wanted cash for Varane to help fund the Mbappe purchase. But with that off the table, the exchange could well be on.
