Harry Maguire believes this is the reason for huge difference under Rangnick

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire believes that the team have shown considerable improvement under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

In an interview with the club’s official matchday programme United Review, Maguire spoke about United’s defensive record:

“We haven’t conceded as many goals, we haven’t conceded as many chances.”

“It’s a team effort; it’s not a back-four effort, or a goalkeeping effort [alone]. It’s a team effort. Our lives are a little bit easier from the way that they [the midfielders and forwards] are working and covering spaces in front of us, so it’s a huge effort from us all.”

Since Rangnick took over, United have lost just one game out of ten, conceding seven goals compared to 22 in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s last ten matches in charge.

There has been a clear improvement in the team’s ability to control matches.

However, the 28 year old believes that the team can be better on the ball.

“But I think there’s still a lot to improve on, especially with the ball now.”

“We’ve got to make sure that we carry a little bit more of a threat with the ball and look after the ball a bit better than we have done in recent weeks.”

Despite the recent criticism, Maguire will play a vital role in the last part of United’s campaign. As captain, he will surely want to lead this team to silverware. He goes on to say:

“We’ve got a crucial period of the season where we need to make sure that the performances are turned out week after week. I always say it, and I’m always a big believer that good performances lead to good results.”

With Victor Lindelof out of action with illness, Maguire is almost certain to start tomorrow’s game against Middlesbrough as he aims to help the side to another clean sheet.

United pay the price for not listening to Rangnick this transfer window

Much was made over Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick and his admiration for RB Leipzig star Amadou Haidara but nothing came of it in the end.

Fans were naturally disappointed as they felt a midfielder was desperately needed this winter and he would have been an upgrade on the current options.

The Tweet above shows the differences between Scott McTominay, who Rangnick predicted could be a future club captain, and Haidara.

The differences are naturally rather intriguing to see and doesn’t necessarily mean one player is better than the other, rather it shows the type of profiles on show.

The two players play in different leagues, in different systems, and under different circumstances so this must all be kept in mind when comparing.

Having said that, Haidara is better at pressuring, at non-penalty expected goals, at shots, at expected assists, at progressive passes, and lastly at progressive carries.

McTominay meanwhile, is better at tackles and interceptions, pass completion, and successful dribbles.

The reason why fans wanted Haidara in the first place, largely, was because of the progressive passes.

Supporters have recognised the likes of Fred and McTominay tend to play things safe, and given how they’re the deepest of midfielders, this can be remarkably frustrating.

Even in the things the Scotsman is better at, it’s only pass completion that is a big enough difference, which can be explained by Haidara’s naturally more risky approach to passing.

It’s that risky approach that has the Mali international at double the expected assists of McTominay.

It’s clear to see Haidara is, in theory, an upgrade on the United star and Rangnick was right to be keen on his signature.

Whoever the next permanent manager is, it will be worth his time to look into bringing in the Leipzig star this coming summer.

United fans told the bizarre reason for transfer window failings

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed the opportunities Manchester United had in regards to signing the likes of Boubacar Kamara, Denis Zakaria, and Julian Alvarez.

Ralf Rangnick was made interim manager late last year and many expected he would at least sign one midfielder this winter.

However, Romano has revealed that United turned down the opportunity to sign any of the aforementioned players.

The reason that was given was because the club want to allow the new manager to bring in whoever he plans on rather than inheriting a squad he didn’t want.

It’s understood the Red Devils even held talks with Zakaria’s agent in December but the club again delayed any decisions and lost out to Juventus.

Manchester United may have been trying to be smart but no decision is a decision in and of itself.

Time will tell whether it was the right call but fans were naturally upset, particularly since the need for a midfielder was so obvious.

Romano had revealed in the past that United held talks with Zakaria’s agents but it never went beyond that.

The talented Swiss star recently stated in a press conference that he wishes to emulate Paul Pogba‘s time at Juventus.

The hope is that United’s new manager, whoever he may be, will get the right backing in the summer to make as many signings as he needs.

Romano clears up rumours surrounding fan-favourite forward

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an important update on Manchester United star Edinson Cavani‘s long-term future.

The experienced Uruguayan’s current contract runs out in the summer and so that has naturally sparked rumours over where he may go next.

One of those is that he will return to South America to play for Argentina’s River Plate, replacing Manchester City’s new signing Julian Alvarez.

However, Romero has denied negotiations have taken place and insisted Cavani is committed to United until the season’s end, when he will then decide his next step, with La Liga a ‘serious option’.

Some fans were upset with Ralf Rangnick after he chose to give Cavani a day or two extra rest, meaning he will miss the clash with Middlesbrough.

The FA Cup is the Red Devils’ most realistic shot at a trophy this season and so supporters naturally feel strongly about it.

Rangnick explained in his press conference that Cavani wouldn’t have played in the match anyways due to his recent exploits with Uruguay.

Given the chaos at the club and the uncertainty over many players’ futures, fans have started to question who is committed to the club and who isn’t.

Rangnick is clearly a fan of Cavani’s but it seems even if the manager wanted the player to stay for longer, he wouldn’t be keen on the idea.

The health pandemic has taken its toll on the prolific forward who has clearly been feeling homesick and hopes to be closer to his family.

In fact, that is the reason why Cavani requested to stay abroad for longer and his request was indeed granted.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pins blame on Arsenal boss Arteta for exit

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pins blame on Arsenal boss Arteta for exit

The now former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been officially unveiled as a Barcelona player and in his first words with gathered media, put his side of the story out regarding his messy exit from north London.

In quotes carried via the Mail, Aubameyang pinned the blame on Mikel Arteta and only him;

I think the problem was only with him [Mikel Arteta] and he made the decision.”

I can’t say much, he wasn’t happy and that’s it. It happened like that. He wasn’t very happy, I stayed very calm and that’s it.”

They were difficult months but I think that’s how football is sometimes.”

For my part I have never wanted to do something wrong and now I think that this is the past and I want to think about the present and right now that is my answer.”

Aubameyang’s deadline day move to the former Spanish champions saw Arsenal write off any transfer fee to get the 32-year-old off the book, paying a severance package of about £7million. However, the Gunners will ultimately save over £25million in wages.

Rangnick reveals shock team news as four ruled out of Middlesbrough game

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick says the events surrounding Mason Greenwood‘s arrest have been on the players’ minds ahead of his side’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Middlesbrough tomorrow.

Speaking at today’s press conference ahead of the tiie, Rangnick said that the week’s training had been good but the subject had been discussed among the team.

‘We had a good and normal week of training, with five sessions including today,’ he said.

‘Obviously I suppose it was a topic within the team, but they are human beings and Mason was a part of the group until before we had our break.

He was then asked whether Greenwood’s absence was the reason that Jesse Lingard had not gone out on loan.

‘Three weeks ago, Jesse diidn’t want to leave, then he changed his mind,’ Rangnick explained.

‘I had a chat with him some 10 days ago and I could fully understand why he wanted to leave and get game time for his future, for the World Cup.

‘I said … I would allow him to leave … but obviously with all the developments we’ve had in the last couple of days, things changed a little bit.

‘On the other hand, we also had no agreement with any other club so we also had to take a final decision together with the board, and we decided to rather keep Jesse until the end of the season.

‘In a way [Greenwood’s arrest was a factor], yes, but also the board told me they couldn’t find an agreement with any of those clubs that were interested in him.

‘With the transfer window closing on Monday, in the afternoon the board told me they wanted him to stay. And that, for me, was a decision I could fully understand and accept.’

Rangnick was asked about injury news for tomorrow’s game.

‘Paul [Pogba] will be a part of the group, he may even be in the starting XI,’ he said.

‘There are still a couple of players missing. Edi Cavani will only return at the weekend, he contacted me a week ago and asked me if he could have two more days at home.

‘I agreed because I knew he couldn’t be in the starting XI anyway with jetlag and coming back today or last night.

Victor Lindelof has been ill all week and not training so he will also miss out on tomorrow’s game.

‘The same is also true of Jesse, he asked me and the club if he could have a couple of days off just to clear his mind and he will be back in the group next Monday.

Eric Bailly, he came back yesterday, he has some problems with a swollen ankle and will therefore not be a part of the squad tomorrow.

‘All the other players are available.’

Rangnick also suggested that Alex Telles could be rested after playing 90 minutes for Brazil early yesterday morning.

4-3-3: United will demolish Middlesbrough with this brilliant line-up

Ralf Rangnick is expected to stick with a 4-3-3 formation for his Manchester United side’s home FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough tomorrow evening.

A home cup tie against a lower league side, with a Premier League match against Burnley coming up on Tuesday, could mean that the interim boss is tempted to field a weakened side. However, the cup may offer United their most realistic chance of silverware this season so it seems more likely that he will pick his strongest XI, or close to it.

This would mean that David de Gea will continue in goal, although it would do much to mend fences with Dean Henderson, who was refused a January loan, if he were to be given a run out.

Luke Shaw’s recent hamstring problems could mean that Alex Telles continues at left back, but an early Wednesday morning game for Brazil followed by a long journey home renders it unlikely that the former Porto man will be pushed into action.

We therefore think that if Aaron Wan-Bissaka has recovered from illness, he could feature at right back with Diogo Dalot switching to left back to cover.

The centre back pairing will probably come down to two of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof, although Eric Bailly has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations and Phil Jones turned down a loan move to Bordeaux. It is expected that Maguire and Varane will get the nod even though the Lindelof/Varane partnership had looked very promising prior to the Swede missing the last game on compassionate leave following a home invasion.

In midfield, Fred was an unused substitute in Brazil’s 4-0 victory over Paraguay yesterday but could also be rested due to the journey involved. With Donny van de Beek now at Everton on loan, this could mean Nemanja Matic is drafted in alongside Scott McTominay, with Bruno Fernandes in front of them in that midfield three.

Another option is Paul Pogba, who has been back in training for a couple of weeks now, but it is more likely he will be eased back in and given 30 minutes or so off the bench.

Up front, Edinson Cavani will almost certainly not start after playing for Uruguay in their own World Cup qualifier. Mason Greenwood is unavailable until further notice and both Anthony Martial and Amad Diallo have left on loan to Sevilla and Rangers, respectively.

Cristiano Ronaldo is therefore expected to start up top, with Jadon Sancho on the right wing and either Marcus Rashford or Anthony Elanga on the left. Elanga has impressed of late and could well continue, but Rashford has scored two from the bench and could get the nod at this stage.

Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata provide other options.

With all that in mind, here is our predicted XI for the match:

Heartbreak on the road for United as their stirring cup run comes to an end

Manchester United have crashed out of the Continental Cup after losing 3-1 to defending champions Chelsea.

Chelsea started off the game brighter as they dominated possession but it was United with the first shot on target. Unfortunately, Martha Thomas’ header nestled into the gloves of Musovic.

After the Reds had settled and had a good spell of possession, Pernille Harder fired a warning shot from the edge of the box and Sophie Baggaley was relieved to see it fly over the crossbar.

Galton made a wonderful run into the box but her shot was stopped by a well timed challenge from Erin Cuthbert but United were showing promise.

In the 26th minute though, Chelsea made the breakthrough, against the run of play, Harder made a good run and managed to dance round Mannion to slot it past Baggaley.

United had been playing well up until that point but it all unravelled for them as five minutes later a loose ball on the six yard line wasn’t dealt with and Fleming managed to smash it into the roof of the net.

However, United responded well, and less than two minutes later they got off the mark themselves. Groenen with a lovely back heel to Boe Risa, who smashed a shot past Musovic from a tight angle. United were right back in contention.

United’s hope was short lived though, as Chelsea found a third before the half was over. A ball came in across the face of goal and again it wasn’t dealt with by United’s defence and Jess Carter came flying in and found the back of the net.

The second half began and United knew what they needed to do. They came out on the front foot with a few crosses into the box but the final decisions lacked conviction.

A training ground corner, pulled back to Boe Risa caught Chelsea off guard but the shot lacked power. United kept the ball alive but Russo’s resulting shot didn’t trouble the keeper as it went wide.

A mistake from Blundell led to Sam Kerr having the chance to run almost one on one with Baggaley who came out of her area. She hesitated and made a reckless challenge which Kerr made a meal of. Baggaley was shown a straight red.

A slightly unprepared Mary Earps had to come on to face the free-kick and see out the remaining 15 minutes or so.

It was all over for the Reds as their Conti Cup journey came to an end.

Team: Baggaley, Thorisdottir, Mannion, Batlle, Blundell, Boe Risa, Zelem, Groenen (Fuso 67), Galton, Thomas (Bruun 67), Russo (Earps 77)

United fans given hope in search for new manager: report

Manchester United are reportedly in a period of upheaval and have multiple problems that need solving before the next season.

Ralf Rangnick has been in temporary charge of the club but a permanent solution is needed in order to settle an unsettled club.

According to The Times, with new CEO Richard Arnold taking over from Ed Woodward, the club will now look into finding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s long-term replacement.

Arnold will reportedly not stick his nose in footballing affairs and will focus on his area of expertise- commercial areas.

The search for a new manager will be instead left with Darren Fletcher and John Murtough who are the technical director and football director respectively.

Ajax’s Erik ten Hag and PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino are said to be the ‘leading candidates‘ for the managerial role.

United are understood to be keen on someone who has experience winning trophies, is happy to promote youngsters, and can play attacking football, with both managers capable of meeting the criteria.

The report continues to say that the Red Devils have asked Paul Pogba to delay any decision-making until the new manager comes in, amid interest from PSG, Juventus, and Real Madrid.

Lastly, Manchester United are looking to see where they can go for their first pre-season tour since the pandemic began, with China the favourite to play hosts if no travel restrictions are in place.

United fans will be glad to see Arnold is not looking to get involved on footballing matters but it won’t mean much if the Glazers still need to sign off on everything.

It’s likely supporters will be happy with either Pochettino or Ten Hag but the feeling is that more want the latter to be in charge next.

Rangnick is also said to be in favour of that decision too so it will be interesting to see who the board settle on.

Video: Watch sensational Man United prospect dazzle with sensational assist

Manchester United star Facundo Pellistri put on a show for fans who may have been watching Uruguay’s 4-1 thumping of Venezuela.

The young winger played a key role in the big result, with his nation looking to qualify for the World Cup held later this year in Qatar.

Pellistri’s sensational assist can be seen in the video below:

In typical fashion, the on-loan man beat several players in tight spaces in the Venezuelan penalty box before laying the ball on a plate for his teammate Giorgian de Arrascaeta to score in the 23rd minute.

Pellistri’s stats proved just how much of a threat he was and reminded fans of what kind of attacking talent they have on their hands.

The former Penarol man impressively completed all four of his dribbles, created four chances and one big chance, all while maintaining a remarkable pass accuracy rate of 93%.

Ralf Rangnick would’ve loved to have seen Pellistri winning seven of the 10 tackles he attempted too.

Much has been made of United letting go Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, and Amad Diallo on temporary loans this winter but with Pellistri performing like that, he’ll be knocking on the door soon enough.

Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho may be expected to be the first choices for the left-wing and right-wing spots respectively but Pellistri should get the opportunity to challenge them both next season.

If he can somehow salvage the poor loan spell he’s currently enduring with Alaves in Spain, then he may yet have a part to play for the Red Devils.

Man United fail to respond to transfer bid for unwanted star: report

Flamengo are reportedly still waiting for Manchester United’s response after the club submitted a fresh new offer for Andreas Pereira.

Since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, the on-loan attacking midfielder has been seen as an outcast at the club, spending two seasons away at different clubs.

His last loan at Lazio was a successful move where he made 26 league appearances, scoring one goal.

The club wanted to sign him on a permanent transfer in the summer but couldn’t meet the asking price set by Man United.

This season, Pereira has spent his time in Brazil at Flamengo where his current club are willing to make the loan move a permanent stay.

He has scored five goals in 18 league appearances and even made the final of the Copa Libertadores but lost due to a mistake by Pereira himself.

According to Sport Witness, the vice president of football at Flamengo has claimed that they’re still waiting for United’s response to an offer made in January.

“The English have still not responded, maybe due to the closing of the window, which is today,” claimed Braz.

“They could be waiting for some possibility, some proposal. We have not received a response regarding the proposal.”

The outlet reports that the offer stands at €8m which is considerably lower than the €20m asking price.

With six months to go before the expiration of the loan deal, the two clubs still have plenty of time to negotiate a fee.

United fans will be hoping for successful negotiations for a player who isn’t considered to have a future at Old Trafford.

United handed boost as Rangnick replacement could be appointed for free

Manchester United managerial target Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly no longer considered the manager for the long-term project at Paris Saint-Germain.

It has been a turbulent time for the Argentinian who joined the club a year ago after Thomas Tuchel was sacked.

During his first season, he was eliminated in the Champions League by Manchester City in the semi-final after knocking out the holders, Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

He didn’t manage to win the Ligue 1 due to the fact they were behind when he was appointed but did manage to win the Coupe de France Final against Monaco.

Heading into this season after a sensational transfer window that saw the likes of Lionel Messi and Gianluigi Donnarumma join the club, the team haven’t really clicked like they once did.

However, PSG remains top of the league, though this isn’t surprising considering they have finished as Champions in eight of the last 10 seasons.

According to Le Parisien, Pochettino is no longer a part of the project as the club look to find a new manager to be appointed in the summer.

In what has to be considered an advantage for Man United if the French club releases their manager, the club could soon be able to get one of their reported primary targets for free.

However, PSG are still in the Champions League and a successful win will most likely mean he will stay in charge beyond this season.

Foot Mercato reports that Pochettino was ready to join United in January after the club approached him when they sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Zinedine Zidane was touted around as a possible replacement at the French club and it seemed very likely that the Argentinian would’ve left last month.

The outlet also reports that PSG’s manager is tired of decisions made sportingly and extra-sportingly, as he did not even get his transfer targets during the January window.

It’ll be a tricky time for the next six months as Pochettino goes all out to try and win the Champions League to potentially save his job.

However, a move to United for free seems like a great move if the club still sees the manager as their primary managerial target.

With Ralf Rangnick’s managerial reign ending in the summer, it will be the perfect time for the club to go in for the former Tottenham Hotspur boss.

United fans will be eagerly waiting for the announcement as the hierarchy look to replace Solskjaer for the long term.

Man United fans told even more bad news after disappointing transfer window

Manchester United fans have been delivered even more bad news following the club’s lack of incomings in the January transfer window.

Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, and Amad Diallo have all been allowed to leave on loan but no signings were made despite supporters’ pleas.

According to The Telegraph, many matters are up in the air due to the lack of a permanent manager, with Ralf Rangnick hired only on an interim basis until the summer.

It’s said Paul Pogba has been encouraged to wait to see who the new manager is before making a decision on his future.

Luke Shaw, whose current contract ends in 2023 (though there’s an option to trigger a further year), is understood to not start negotiations over a new deal until March.

However, the report goes on to claim that most talks with the players are on hold until a new manager comes in, who will then decide who should get new deals or not.

Unfortunately the worst news for United fans is that it’s said the club is unlikely to be able to bring in four or five talented players for the upcoming boss unless good sales are made and space on the wage bill is extended.

To add salt to the wounds, it’s understood that co-chairman Joel Glazer’s micro-management can at any point override Richard Arnold, Matt Judge, John Murtough, and the new manager in any decisions taken.

Lastly, the report claims United’s reputation in the transfer market has been damaged, with deals rarely completed with ease and negotiations are described as “deal by attrition”.

It’s clear to see from The Telegraph’s report that United are in absolute chaos and a mess that seems remarkably difficult to clean up.

Rangnick’s advisory role that is expected to kick in from the summer will be totally useless if he has to do his job with his hands tied behind his back.

Glazer’s constant greed for power must end as footballing decisions must be left to footballing people or else nothing will change at the club.

Man Utd's Mason Greenwood released on bail, full situation explained

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has reportedly been released by the police.

According to Simon Stone(BBC), a 20 year old man has been granted bail, pending further investigation.

The assumption is the mentioned person is Greenwood, who was arrested on the 30th of January, on suspicion of domestic abuse.

He was further arrested yesterday for sexual assault and threatening to kill. The statement from the Manchester police read:

“Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.

“The suspect was detained in custody on Sunday (30 January) afternoon after we became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

“He continues to be questioned after magistrates authorised an extension until tomorrow (Wednesday 2 February).

“Following enquiries so far, he has since been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill. Enquiries are ongoing and the victim continues to be offered specialist support.”

The club have confirmed that Greenwood would not be involved in the squad until further updates. His merchandise has been removed from the official website.

Nike also put out a statement yesterday suspending their relationship with the 20 year old.

The next few days will be crucial in determining what the future holds for Greenwood, with the police still investigating.

Rangnick could make himself permanent United manager by passing this major test

Manchester United fans would be justified in wondering if Ralf Rangnick has spent sleepless nights mulling over the scale of his task at Old Trafford.

The 63-year-old has often had a full plate of unpalatable gruel to stomach since he took on the United job back in early December.

Along with doubts about his ability to mould the side in his own image, he’s also had to deal with talk of low morale, dressing room rifts, poor performances and truly shocking allegations about player conduct.

Worryingly, it feels like wherever the club goes, the circus is sure to follow. But, putting aside the near-deafening cacophony of background noise, how has Rangnick done so far?

Predictably, it took time for the German’s ideas to take root, but there have been encouraging recent signs that the team could be starting to bloom.

After promising but bitty displays against the likes of Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Brentford, the Reds enjoyed their most complete performance of the season against top four rivals West Ham.

Although they needed a last-gasp winner from Marcus Rashford to bag the points, Rangnick will surely have been encouraged by his side’s measure of control over a dangerous opponent.

For what felt like the first time in an age United defended well, mostly limiting the Hammers to half-chances. They also registered three times as many shots as the visitors, who managed just one effort on target.

It was the culmination of a collection of stop-motion improvements that started with a composed 60 minutes at Villa Park and was followed by an impressive second half in the win at Brentford.

The former Schalke coach has also bolstered his reputation as a nurturer by coaxing impressive showings from such formerly marginalised figures as Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles.

However, it’s Rangnick’s influence over Anthony Elanga that has been most eye-catching. The young Swede has been plucked from the first team fringes to become an exciting and industrious addition to the Reds’ attack.

All things considered, the influential coach has quietly gone about bringing stability and order to a team that had appeared to be in disarray.

That said, the real tests come towards the end of this month, starting with a tough looking Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid.

Rangnick will be need to accelerate the current growth if the club is to turn what threatened to be another dismal season into the beginning of a bright new era.

If he does, the calls for him to be given a prolonged crack at the job might just get a few decibels louder.

Like a new signing: Rangnick injects exciting new blood into first team squad

Hannibal Mejbri will become a regular member of the Manchester United first team squad after he returns from international duty.

The 19-year old has been playing for Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations, but after they were eliminated by Burkina Faso in the quarter finals over the weekend, Hannibal is all set to return to Manchester.

The midfielder has made two appearances for Tunisia out in Cameroon but was an unused sub in their two knockout games.

The youngster has made just one competitive appearance for The Reds as he made an appearance on the last day of the 20/21 season against Wolves.

However, he has impressed for the under 23’s and Ralf Rangnick is keen to reward him with further training opportunities with the first-team.

Hannibal recently showed his dedication to the club as he was offered the chance to take a holiday in between returning from the Arab Cup and the AFCON but he chose to stay to try and catch the eye of Rangnick.

He will still play for the academy but will be available for selection in Rangnick’s squad.

Goal reported Hannibal could be set for a loan spell with a number of Championship sides interested in him, but United didn’t find any suitable foster homes for their starlet.

Manchester United have prided themselves on giving youngsters the opportunity to break into the first team with Red regulars such as Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay all graduates of the academy.

Transfer blow: Man United main target's comments will worry fans

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham was seen mocking a fan’s question regarding a move to Manchester United.

Bellingham was asked if he would be open to joining United anytime soon to which he replied: “Don’t be silly.”

While this might be interpreted in many ways, United fans will be worried.

The 18 year old is said to be one of Ralf Rangnick’s main midfield targets, according to previous reports.

Moreover, the reluctance to buy a midfielder this January could point to a big signing this summer.

Bellingham has been a revelation at Dortmund. The youngster has caught the eye of many top clubs across Europe with his performances, especially in the Champions League.

In an earlier interview with The Athletic in 2020, Rangnick heaped praise on the Englishman:

“He’s an absolute top player; one of the best. I have rarely seen a 17-year-old playing at such a level. We scouted him for 18 months at RB. He’s simply extraordinary.”

United were extremely close to signing him before he decided to move to the German club for £25 million.

The 18 year old is a well-rounded midfielder and possesses all the qualities to succeed in the Premier League.

His physicality and unique ability to drive with the ball instantly makes him an asset.

United will face stiff competition from a host of clubs, including Liverpool, who are said to be strong admirers of Bellingham.

'Absurd': Former Premier League star warns United of making same mistake again

Former England and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes that Manchester United should refrain from appointing Ralf Rangnick as permanent manager next season.

The German has steadied the ship after the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, losing just one of his ten games in charge.

Despite the results, Collymore feels that United would be unable to attract top-class players with Rangnick at the helm.

He states in The Dailt Mirror: “I’m a bit sceptical because I don’t know of any A-grade players who will be saying, ‘I want to go and play for Ralf Rangnick’.”

“They might want to go and play for United but they aren’t going to want to play for him in the same way as players will be looking at the cults of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Pep Guardiola, Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Jurgen Klopp and saying, ‘I’ll have a bit of that’.”

He also believes that the club should not be convinced by a series of good results and that they risk making a similar ’emotional’ decision as they did in 2019 by appointing Solskjaer.

In his weekly podcast, Fabrizio Romano stated that Man Utd want to back the new manager next summer and hence refrained from signing anyone this transfer window.

It is a clear indication that Rangnick would move to his consultancy role at the end of the season, with a new coach arriving.

The Athletic has previously mentioned the four names in United’s managerial shortlist – Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, Erik ten Hag and Julen Lopetegui.

While Collymore might well be right to a certain extent, he forgets that Rangnick has been one of the most respected minds in football over the past decade.

The 63 year old is often referred to as the godfather of the gegenpress and has inspired coaches like Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann.

He was pivotal in building the Red Bull project and will be heavily involved in United’s structural change following the departure of Ed Woodward.

Damning stat explains why Man United had lifeless January transfer window

Manchester United fans will be shocked to see just how poorly the club perform in regards to player sales.

Supporters have long felt that those in charge have shown bad decision-making in general but particularly in the transfer market too.

The Tweet above shows exactly how United are performing in terms of generating cash from player sales and how that compares to Europe’s elites.

Naturally, as a big club, it can be difficult to offload players as buying clubs know that selling clubs are desperate to get rid.

By default, there’s a power imbalance in negotiations but it’s safe to say the Red Devils are still performing horribly in this regard.

Juventus have made the most in player sales over the past five years, generating an invaluable €563m in total.

Manchester United by comparison sit at a measly €70m which is remarkably poor and shocking, especially when taking into consideration the large amounts of debt they currently have.

If player sales were difficult for top clubs then Juventus, Chelsea, and Barcelona wouldn’t complete the top three in this field.

Much is made of how much Chelsea spend but they certainly can afford to do so if they are generating this much on sales, let alone how much their infamous owner is willing to pump into the club.

United must learn to do better and it’s clear to see that those in charge are making costly decisions that aren’t beneficial for those on the pitch or off it.

If the Glazer family were smart enough to be more greedy with the money the club makes then they would at least hire competent people who can make the right kind of choices.

Mason Greenwood further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill

Mason Greenwood has been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill. The latest statement from the Greater Manchester Police reads as follows:

“Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.

“The suspect was detained in custody on Sunday (30 January) afternoon after we became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence. He continues to be questioned after magistrates authorised an extension until tomorrow (Wednesday 2 February).

“Following enquiries so far, he has since been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill. Enquiries are ongoing and the victim continues to be offered specialist support.

“We remind people to avoid any commentary or sharing of images that could compromise the victim’s right to lifelong anonymity, or risk prejudicing a live investigation with active proceedings.”

This is the latest update from the Greater Manchester Police following Greenwood’s initial arrest after images, a video and audio file surfaced on social media at the weekend.

Manchester United have confirmed Greenwood will not train with the club, while Nike have ended their sponsorship affiliation with the young English forward.

We must remind readers to listen to the advice from Greater Manchester Police and not share any of the images or videos which surfaced on social media as this is an ongoing investigation.

We expect there to be an update from Manchester United in due course when there are further developments.
