From Portugal: Huge moment for Ronaldo tomorrow despite quarantine delay rumours

Stories circulating in the British press claim that Cristiano Ronaldo will not complete quarantine until Friday appear to be wide of the mark.

Ronaldo sensationally re-joined United from Juventus just 48 hours before the transfer window closed and is currently self-isolating at his new home in Manchester.

The reports, originating in The Sun, claim that the delayed self-isolation period will mean that the Portuguese legend will only have one day of training with his new United teammates before Saturday’s visit from Newcastle United.

However, this conflicts with reports in the Portuguese press, which claim that the 36-year-old will start training with the squad at Carrington tomorrow.

The Sun says:

‘Ronaldo will only have one day’s training with his team-mates after having to isolate for five days in his Cheshire mansion due to Covid rules.

‘Even without the Covid restrictions, the international break would have restricted Solskjaer to just Friday to integrate Ronaldo into the side.’

However, it has been well-reported that Ronaldo flew to Manchester last Thursday evening, meaning that his five-day isolation period should end this evening (Tuesday).

And the player’s early release from international duties, after picking up a yellow card for a goal celebration against Ireland, means that he should not require the usual recovery time after international duty as The Sun suggests.

According to Portuguese outlet Record:

‘Cristiano Ronaldo ends his quarantine period today (five days) and does not hide his desire to start working with the Manchester United squad, something that should happen tomorrow.’

This makes far more sense unless The Sun knows something the rest of the world doesn’t, and which it has not explained.

Fans will not have long to wait to find out who is right, as the world’s cameras will no doubt be trained at the gates of Carrington tomorrow morning to get an early glimpse of the megastar’s arrival.

Van de Beek sends clear and powerful message to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Donny van de Beek has spoken out about his future at Manchester United.

The midfielder signed joined the club from Ajax back in 2020 and showed promise as he scored on his competitive debut against Crystal Palace in the opening game of the season.

However, he made few appearances in his first season, starting just four Premier League games.

His position at the club has been shrouded with controversy recently as his agent has criticised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for not giving him more game time and not letting him go in the transfer window.

In a recent interview with United legend Rio Ferdinand, Van de Beek sounded positive as he spoke about his future at the club.

“Ole told me: ‘from what I see in training… I see a different Donny now.’ He was really positive about me. And I need to trust him,” he said on the Vibe with Five podcast.

The Dutchman added, “If he doesn’t need me, he would have let me go. I think he has plans for me. I hope that one day I can show the people what I can do.”

Speaking about where he best fits within the team, Van de Beek said, “It’s really difficult to say because it depends on how you play as a team. I think the way we play, for me, the best position is as a number 6 or 8.”

The 24 year old was pressed on adapting to play in the English league and insisted that the experience he has gained over the past year will stand him in good stead moving forward.

“He [Solskjaer] can see that I now have one-year experience here in England. If he sees me now and in the beginning, he sees a big difference. I train really hard every day.”

The United star was ruled out of playing for his country during the Euros due to injury but says he is stronger now.

“I’m feeling well. I’m in good shape so I hope that I can show the people that I improved a lot.”

Van de Beek will hope he has done enough on the training ground to prove he has what it takes to appear in Solskjaer’s starting XI more frequently than he did last year.

Picture: Man United's most crucial midfielder is fit and back in training

Manchester United fans will be delighted to see Scott McTominay is back in training following a spell on the sidelines.

The talented midfielder was forced to sit out a match or two due to his need for a small surgery as he had been secretly suffering from a knock.

It’s believed McTominay had a niggling groin injury dating back to last season but played through the pain barrier for club and country.

However, when it became clear the knock wasn’t going to heal on his own, he and United agreed to have the surgery so that he could use the international break as a period of recovery.

With McTominay back in training, it proves the plan was successful and the hope is it won’t be a recurring injury and he can kick on for the season.

Alex Telles was another previously injured player who also made a return to training, meaning the club’s only long-term absentee is Marcus Rashford.

Amad Diallo is another who suffered a knock that caused him to miss out on a move to Holland for a loan spell at the last minute.

However, it seems he wasn’t considered as a key first-team member, unlike Jadon Sancho who pulled out of the England squad due to an injury.

Luckily it looks as though the former Borussia Dortmund man is expected to be ready for the clash vs Newcastle United on Saturday.

Even Phil Jones has been involved with training sessions of late and it looks as though he’s on his way to getting his career back on track.

McTominay’s presence in midfield was thoroughly missed in the battle with Wolves, though the Red Devils squeezed by with a 1-0 victory.

'What a player!': Fans urge brilliant international star to make United move

Judging by his current rate of progress, Manchester United might already be ruing the day they allowed a young Jude Bellingham to slip through their fingers.

So keen were the Red Devils to snare the then-Birmingham City prodigy that they even asked the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson to lead the Carrington welcome committee.

Despite having the formidable Scot on hand to roll out the red carpet, Bellingham instead opted to further his development via the increasingly popular route of Germany’s Borussia Dortmund.

The 18-year-old had an impressive impact in his first full Bundesliga season, contributing 8 goal involvements in his 46 appearances.

And he’s already given a clear indication that he’s taken his game to the next level this season, with 3 assists and 1 goal in his first 5 club appearances.

His excellent displays in Germany have seen him break into Gareth Southgate’s England squad, where he is already establishing himself as a potential future superstar.

The rangy midfielder was excellent during last night’s 4-0 win over Andorra, combining grit and flair to put in very assured and complete midfield display.

His impressive showing didn’t go unnoticed on social media, with United fans clamouring for the exciting young Brummie to come to Old Trafford.

‘What a player! You Sir are gonna have a long, successful and distinguished career…please come to Man Utd when you’re done in Germany! You even got Sir Alex to give you a personal tour, that’s what we think of you at Man Utd!’

‘Welcome to the Theatre of Dreams, my diamond!’

‘Join Sancho next summer, bro!’

However, the England man recently extended his Dortmund contract until 2025, so his growing army of admirers should expect a Sancho-esque wait before their dreams are likely to be realised.

One to watch: This Man Utd wonderkid is tipped to be a future superstar

Manchester United’s Zidane Iqbal is one of the club’s most promising youngsters in the academy.

Born in Manchester to a Pakistani father and an Iraqi mother, Zidane joined United’s academy at the age of nine.

He is a part of 0.25 per cent of Britain’s population of footballers from a South Asian background.

Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury and Aston Villa’s Arjan Raikhy are other Premier League players of that descent.

Zidane’s first coach Stewart Hamer spoke to Manchester Evening News about his early coaching days.

“I became Sale United’s Development Officer in the early 2000s. I started off an Under 5s program called ‘Gimme 5s’, and it really took off, and Zidane was part of that when he came.”

“I worked with him from when he was three of four when he first started, and he was, of course, very, very young.

“So, I took Zidane through that, and we brought him into Sale United as an Under-6, and other coaches helped him through into the next stages.”

“I think at the time Zidane got taken to United, City and Liverpool as well. My advice was, always just stick to one club’s development centre, though, because you get different messages from each academy on how players should develop.

“We used to run competitions at the end of the year, and invariably Zidane would do very well, as would some of the other kids to be fair, but he did certainly have quite a bit of talent — very early on, you could tell Zidane had a clear ability to control the ball.”

The 18 year old is a versatile midfielder. Elegant on the ball, he has the vision and guile to link up with forwards and create goalscoring chances for the team.

After signing his first professional contract at United in April, Zidane has slowly built a reputation as one of United’s most exciting academy prospects.

He has been promoted to Neil Wood’s United U23 squad. The 18 year old will be bidding to emulate Shola Shoretire, Anthony Elanga and Hannibal Mejbri, who have recently made their first-team debuts under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Zidane is a huge inspiration for young footballers of South-Asian descent and has the potential to be another one of Man United’s academy stars.

Man United star explains his goal celebration while on international duty

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard scored a brace during his match with England where he celebrated his first goal using the iconic Cristiano Ronaldo ‘Sui’ celebration.

The Portuguese forward returned to Man United during the closing days of the transfer window and many people included Lingard reacted with joy over the final arrival of the transfer window.

As reported by The Peoples Person, Lingard was in blistering form yesterday scoring two goals against Andorra.

His selection for this international window came as a bit of a surprise for many fans, with the player only playing a few competitive minutes since his call-up to the international friendlies before the European Championships.

In an article from the Metro, Lingard explained why he celebrated his first goal in a similar fashion to Ronaldo’s ‘Sui’ celebration.

Lingard also added his own twist to the celebration with his normal routine mixed in with Ronaldo’s.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS shortly after the game, Lingard revealed that he had made a promise to England star Mason Mount that if he scored a goal, he would do the iconic Ronaldo ‘Sui’ celebration.

“Me and Mason were thinking about celebrations this week and obviously we mixed my celebration with Cristiano’s and I said I’d do it if I scored.”

“It’s a little welcoming gift for him. He’ll settle in very quickly and it will help the team tremendously this season.”

United fans will be excited over the fact that Ronaldo has had such a great impact on the players and it’s clear to see that the signing has had a positive impact with this celebration.

The Red Devils face Newcastle at the weekend in the Premier League and fans will be hoping to see a second debut for Ronaldo after waiting patiently since the end of the transfer window a few days ago.

Many will be wondering if Lingard will ever get the chance to combine with somebody he looks up to especially after his bright form in recent months.

United's £80m top target already identified for next summer's window - sources

Manchester United have already set their top priority for next summer’s transfer window: West Ham’s Declan Rice.

Sources have told ESPN’s Rob Dawson that a holding midfielder is now top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s agenda and that Rice is top of his wish list in the position.

‘Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward were aware of the clamour among supporters to sign a new midfielder during the transfer window, but sources have told ESPN that a winger and centre-back were identified as the club’s primary targets,’ Dawson says.

‘The summer budget was spent on winger Jadon Sancho and defender Raphael Varane, while a deal for forward Cristiano Ronaldo was financed with funds from outside the transfer pot.

‘Sources have told ESPN that a striker and a midfielder are on the list ahead of next summer with England international Rice among a number of options that will be narrowed down over the course of the next 12 months.

‘It is likely West Ham would have to lower their valuation of the 22-year-old — who is under contract until 2024 — which has stood at more than £80 million.

‘Sources have told ESPN that he is keen to play Champions League football.’

With two years remaining on his contract next summer, it is unclear how much of a reduction the Hammers will feel compelled to make to Rice’s asking price.

However, United proved with Harry Maguire that they are prepared to pay what it takes for an England international even if he is overvalued by the selling club.

The Red Devils paid over £80 million for the centre back at a time when his market value was just over half of that value.

Rice’s current market value is around £60 million, which suggests that something close to West Ham’s valuation will still need to be met to capture his signature.

The fact that Chelsea are also keen on the London-born man will also ensure there are no bargain deals on the table for United in Rice’s case.

Picture: Ronaldo poses in new United kit, describes his special love for the club

Cristiano Ronaldo has posted a photograph of himself on Instagram in his new Manchester United number 7 shirt.

The Portuguese legend has been granted special dispensation to wear the number after it had initially been registered to Edinson Cavani.

The Premier League allowed the change, which also had Cavani’s blessing, on the proviso that fans with ‘Cavani 7’ shirts would be granted a refund or replacement.

Cavani has adopted the number 21, his shirt number for Uruguay.

Ronaldo added to the picture the caption ‘I’m back where I belong. My never ending love’.

His comment on the post was ‘7 is the magic number’.

At the time of going to press, the post had received over 8 million likes.

Shirt sales have broken all records, with over €38 million being made in the first 12 hours of it going on sale.

Stocks have run out both online and in stores.

Ronaldo is expected to make his second debut in the shirt on Saturday, when United face Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Kick off is at 3pm, with extended highlights scheduled to be shown on Sky Sports at 8.30pm in the evening.

Tickets for the game are believed to be costing £2,500 through agencies and on the black market.

Record smashed: how much United made on Ronaldo shirt sales in first 12 hours

After smashing the record for most international goals with his 111th strike for Portugal, Ronaldo wasn’t finished breaking records.

In just 12 hours Manchester United sold over 400,000 Ronaldo seven shirts, raking in a cool £32.5 million and breaking the record for shirts sold.

Manchester City’s new signing Jack Grealish sold the second most shirts with Bruno Fernandes coming in third.

While United will only receive a small portion of this cash, rumoured to be between 7.5%-10%, this should still effectively pay the first instalment for the 36-year-old, thought to be £2.5 million.

United would need to sell an additional 12 million shirts to cover the full cost of Ronaldo’s transfer fee and wages, a feat that may be beyond even CR7.

Adidas have struggled to keep up with the demand, with most UK retailers selling out both online and in the shops.

However, one thing that may recoup a large chunk of money is the club’s huge increase in value on the stock exchange.

After the signing was confirmed share prices in the club rose by 9.8%, meaning United’s overall market value rose by £212 million.

While this has levelled out somewhat, the increase indicates the impact the signing of the Portuguese legend has on all areas of the club.

Ronaldo will make his second Old Trafford debut against Newcastle on Saturday in a 3PM kick off.

Both BT and Sky decided against requesting the game be moved so it could be televised, with fans not in attendance having to wait till 8:30pm when the full game will be shown on Sky Sports’ Game of Day show.

No excuses: Man United have given key star exactly what he wants to commit his future

Manchester United’s latest arrivals Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo are already having a positive impact on Paul Pogba after what has been a very good transfer window for the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some persuading to do when it comes to Pogba and his contract as he has now entered the last year of his deal.

The manager will be hoping that these incredible signings including Jadon Sancho will help convince him to stay after a disappointing final in the Europa League last season.

According to Get French Football News, the midfielder spoke about the two latest arrivals and what that means for him.

Pogba spoke very highly of Raphael Varane after knowing him for many years.

“Raph’s [Raphaël Varane] arrival is a positive for the club, we have a great relationship, we’ve known each other for a while.”

“I’m happy that he’s with us at Manchester to bring his experience and quality to the table.”

Pogba and Varane both feature in the French team and have a good connection while on the pitch.

They’re also both the same age so they have come through the ranks together and also have shared a lot of France’s success together.

In regard to Ronaldo, the 28-year-old showed his excitement about having such a quality player on the team.

“It’s always a pleasure to play with the best, it’s a plus for the players to be able to train with a great player.”

“He’s going to raise the level of the team.”

Man United next face Newcastle United in the Premier League where fans will hopefully get to see a home debut for Varane after his full debut vs. Wolves at the Molineux Stadium and a second home debut for Ronaldo.

The report goes as far as stating that Ramsdale has told close friends that he has already been told he’s in line to replace Leno, for a game between two sides who remain winless.

Bernd Leno’s contract is up next summer and after a torrid start to the season, Arteta may very well decide the next phase is now and give the 23-year-old former Sheffield Utd man a run in the first XI.

On fire: Man United fans stunned by attacker's dominant display

Manchester United fans were thoroughly pleased to see Jesse Lingard in fine form for his country, after his match-winning performance vs Andorra.

Gareth Southgate included the talented Englishman in his squad for the September international break despite the player’s lack of minutes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ended up keeping Lingard at United this summer as West Ham seemingly refused to cough up the cash needed to sign him.

The legendary Norwegian praised the academy product many times since, insisting the player has a big role to play for the season.

Lingard’s versatility could potentially help him grab much-needed appearances and he’s certainly sent a message to Solskjaer with his performance vs Andorra.

Lingard can play on either flank as well as an attacking-midfielder and has occasionally even been used as a striker in his career.

This type of versatility means he would provide good cover to the starting XI, though no one truly expects him to break into it.

After all, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood all play in the positions Lingard can play in.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how Solskjaer uses him over the course of the season and if he still has a career at Old Trafford.

Trouble brewing: Agent of wantaway Man Utd midfielder at loggerheads with Solskjaer

Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek was reportedly close to joining Everton in this transfer window.

In a recent interview with Ziggo Sport, the 24 year old’s agent Guido Albers spoke about his conversation with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the board.

“We had conversations with Solskjaer and the board. We took the initiative to find a club, and our search ended up at Everton. We opened talks with Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri.”

“The picture at Everton was almost complete.”

“On Monday night, we received a call from Solskjaer and the club who told us that a transfer was out of the question and that he had to report himself to train the next morning.”

Van de Beek endured a difficult start to his Man United career, starting just four games in the 2020/21 season.

The Dutchman was used sparingly, mainly in domestic cup competitions, i.e. in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Moreover, Van de Beek has failed to feature in any of the three games played this season.

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo will move him further down the pecking order, claims his agent.

He stated: “Cristiano arrived on Friday, which we knew was bad news for us. Pogba plays on the left, and with Cristiano’s arrival, it means another extra player in midfield, with Pogba moving away from the left.”

After a forgettable first season in England, Van de Beek is reportedly eager to make his mark.

The Dutch midfielder has worked hard in pre-season and has bulked up significantly. His agent is confident that the 24 year old will regularly feature this campaign.

“The way the conversation went this time compared to last summer… things are much more clear now. I have full expectations that Donny will get his chance now.”

Winners: How United's unbelievable strength in depth delivers 26 full international stars

Manchester United’s summer transfer business was almost certainly the best for many seasons and the squad is now probably the strongest it has been since the peak of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign.

In fact, it could be argued that it is the strongest United squad ever assembled.

Such is the strength in depth now that the Red Devils can field two complete elevens of full international stars, with just one exception, and still leave five other full internationals on the bench.

Every fan will have his or her own opinion as to who belongs in United’s best starting line-up now, but let’s say it looks something like this:

It is quite a line-up.

The only non-full international in this side is Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has played for both DR Congo and England at under-20 and under-21 levels, respectively, and who will reportedly officially switch allegiances to Congo and make his debut in the near future.

A second United line-up reveals an almost equally strong side, made up entirely of internationals:

Dean Henderson is the least experienced internationally, with one England cap. Diogo Dalot made his full debut for Portugal in Euro 2020, where he played twice.

At the other extreme, 34-year-old Edinson Cavani boasts 123 caps for Uruguay and Victor Lindelof and Marcus Rashford have 46 caps for Sweden and England, respectively.

The ‘second string’ XI is an impressive side that would be capable of beating any side on its day. That squad strength is exciting.

There are other full internationals who do not even make it into these teams. Hannibal Mejbri has already notched up three caps for Tunisia, Amad Diallo has also played three times for the Ivory Coast and although retired from international duty, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata have 48 and 41 caps from Serbia and Spain, respectively.

Mata would surely have had a lot more had he not been a contemporary of the great Andres Iniesta.

There is also Phil Jones, who has 27 full England caps.

Whilst some still argue that United are short in midfield, any squad that includes 26 full internationals has to be considered a force and the pressure now is surely on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to deliver silverware this season with his star-studded cast.

Premier League star’s shock claim: ‘I didn’t want to go’ to Arsenal

Emiliano-Martinez - Arsenal

Emiliano Martinez, Argeinte number one and Aston Villa star has revealed in an interview that he never wanted to join Arsenal but he did it reluctantly for financial and family reasons.

‘Arsenal came to look for me and Pepe Santoro [former Argentine goalkeeper] told me that the train only passes once in a lifetime.’

‘My family and my agents thought the same. So, the decision was more for them [the family] than anything else.’

‘I didn’t want to go. I did not regret it, but I wanted to play in Independiente,’ Martinez revealed via quotes carried in the Metro and El Pais.

Arsenal fans have been left frustrated by the sale of Martinez to Villa given his impressive form starting all Premier League games, while the form of Bernd Leno and the still questionable purchase of Aaron Ramsdale has left more questions than answers.

Emiliano Martinez had been at the Gunners since 2010, spending time on-loan at clubs such as Reading, Oxford United and Wolves.

The post Premier League star’s shock claim: ‘I didn’t want to go’ to Arsenal first appeared on All Arsenal News.

'I will kill myself for this manager'- Fan favourite opens up on working with United legend

Manchester United fan favourite Javier Hernandez has spoke about his admiration for former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Mexican striker enjoyed a solid five years at Old Trafford, bagging 59 goals in 157 games whilst winning two Premier League titles and a Community Shield.

With 50 of his United goals coming under the Scotsman’s tutelage, the 2011 Champions League runner up departed after falling out of favour with David Moyes and then Louis Van Gaal.

The 33-year-old now plies his trade for LA Galaxy having enjoyed spells with Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham and Sevilla since leaving Manchester.

Hernandez had this to say while appearing as a guest on the UTD podcast:

“The way he presented himself and the way he treated you like a human. The way he treated my family, for me it was like, yeah, I will kill myself for this manager inside the pitch, for sure. For sure!”

“If he treats my family that way, man, I will vomit after every game if it helps him to achieve in games and championships. He was an amazing man. It’s hard to believe.”

But it wasn’t all plain sailing for ‘Chicharito’, especially dealing with the boss’ thick Glaswegian accent:

“The coach Sir Alex Ferguson came, and it was one of the most complicated calls.”

“His Scottish accent, man… and in that moment I wasn’t aware of that language, so it was so complicated to understand, so you could see me pushing the phone.”

“You have to imagine; he was speaking from Manchester, and I was in Guadalajara. It was the first time we’d spoke, imagine the connection, too, so I was never in my life so focused on a phone call.”

The Mexican international has also recently spoke about his struggles with mental health after a difficult year off the pitch that saw him lose his grandad.

But now seemingly in a better place and back to doing what he does best, scoring goals, things are looking better for ‘little pea’.

'Half the player'; Pundits line up to fire bitter criticism at Ronaldo

Judging by the mad scramble among Manchester United fans to get hold of a shirt bearing the iconic name and number of Cristiano Ronaldo, jubilation about his signing shows no sign of slowing down.

However, in the background of this new wave of Ronaldo-mania, there’s been a fairly strong undercurrent of cynicism among rival fans, pundits and established journalists.

In fairness, there have been plenty of valid critiques around the merits of bringing in a mature luxury forward at the expense of other options, something The Peoples Person contemplated earlier today.

Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger recently observed that, “This is a love story that you want to see…[He was re-signed] for more than just sporting reasons, it’s also emotional. I think the decision is not 100% rational.”

Which seems a pretty fair summary of a reunion that appeals to the heart as much as the head of the average United fan.

On the flip side, other pundits have made more outlandish claims that probably won’t age quite as well as Wenger’s relatively placid and measured take.

For instance, as reported by The Daily Express, Paul Merson says, “If Cristiano Ronaldo wins the league at Manchester United it will be the biggest thing he’s ever done in football.

“But he won’t because he’s not the same player any more – and if you’re not going to win the league with him, I don’t see the point in signing him.

“Harry Kane wins you the league. With the money they have spent on Jadon Sancho and Ronaldo, surely you try and get Kane? I think he would have gone there. United are the biggest club in the world.

“Signing Ronaldo is great for the fans. The king is back. But it frustrates me. You sell shirts with Ronaldo. You win the league with Kane.

“…Ronaldo is half the player he was. United fans don’t like it. But that’s just a fact. He’s not going to beat three players with a step over and bend it into the top corner any more.

“The geezer was unplayable when he was at United before. He’s playable now. He’s 36!”

It seems unlikely that a player who has won 32 trophies, including seven league titles, five Champions Leagues, a European Championship, five Ballon d’Ors and who recently became the best goalscorer in international football history would class winning this season’s Premier League as his biggest achievement.

The Harry Kane comparison is one that seems to have become a something of a recurring theme lately, with both Trevor Sinclair and Gabby Agbonlahor having expressed near-identical sentiments since the deal was announced.

And yes, this is the same Harry Kane who Ronaldo outscored at Euro 2020 this summer and who proved to be completely out of reach even for moneybags Manchester City.

It seems like a lazy and incongruous comparison founded on a parochial preference for England’s main man over a legend of the game who continues to operate at an elite level.

Ultimately, the Portuguese star isn’t being brought back to Old Trafford to dance down the wing and recreate memories of his first spell at the club.

He’s a different player now, a lethal predator rather than the nimble, untouchable sprite of old and, for a modest outlay, United have brought in a World Class operator who will likely inspire those around him and energise the fan base.

The Premier League – like Manchester United – is very lucky have him.

Not giving up: Man United to try again for Solskjaer transfer target

Manchester United will reportedly try to secure Kieran Trippier’s services once more despite Atletico Madrid refusing to cave in the transfer window.

The solid right-back was said to be on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s radar as he looked to add depth to his defence.

United were believed to be keen on Trippier as he would provide a good attacking option in comparison to Aaron Wan-Bissaka‘s typically reserved nature.

It was also said Solskjaer wanted real competition for the young Englishman in comparison to the out-of-form Brandon Williams.

Unfortunately the move didn’t transpire as the two European giants were too far apart in their evaluation of the player.

According to SportWitness, Atletico Madrid weren’t open to negotiating Trippier’s transfer to the Red Devils this summer.

The report claims Solskjaer ‘tried until the last minute to sign him’ but the experienced Englishman was considered too ‘vital’ to let go.

It’s believed Manchester United tried until the last minute to sign Trippier but the Spanish giants ‘managed to retain him’, despite anticipations he would ‘end up’ in the Premier League.

The report continues by claiming the talented defender has a €60m release clause but Solskjaer’s side are still ‘expected to return’ to attempt to sign him once more in January.

Diogo Dalot, who himself was linked with a move to AC Milan, ended up staying at Old Trafford and is the one now expected to challenge Wan-Bissaka.

The young Portuguese was once touted as a future world-class full-back when he was brought in by Jose Mourinho.

Unfortunately injuries and a loss of confidence has seen Dalot unable to fulfil potential but now that he’s been given a chance by Solskjaer, perhaps he can get back on track.

The Ronaldo effect already paying off for United academy star

Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga has admitted he was star-struck when he heard the news of Cristiano Ronaldo’s return.

The world-class Portuguese opted to depart from Juventus this summer and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made sure to pounce on his availability.

Although fans were thoroughly pleased with the purchase, it didn’t stop certain sections of the media to criticise the move.

One argument was that Ronaldo would harm the progression of United’s upcoming exciting batch of youngsters but Elanga begs to differ.

The young Swede is delighted with the former Real Madrid star’s arrival and vows to do his utmost to learn from his now new teammate.

According to Fotbollskanalen, Elanga said: “I was star-struck when I heard that he would come to United, but I have calmed down a bit now.

“I will check everything with Ronaldo. How he does what he does, what he does before and after training. I will ask questions that anyone would ask.

“He has won everything with United and knows what it takes to play for the club. He’s a legend. I have heard that he talks a lot with young players and I look forward to meeting him.

“I was ready if they wanted to loan me. As a young player you have to be ready, but I’m happy to be where I am at United now and I want to show them what I can do.

“I’m always ready if the coach calls me. I show what I can do in training and if I get the opportunity, I take it.”

Elanga was expected to be sent on loan, particularly since there were many interested parties in the Championship.

Ronaldo’s return also meant the teenage winger’s spot in the first-team became even more under threat.

However, perhaps Daniel James‘ departure to Leeds United on deadline day saw Solskjaer opt against letting Elanga leave.

After all, it’s a long season with plenty of complications caused by Covid-19 so a big and fit squad will be needed.

Elanga can play on either wing as well as a striker so he’ll provide plenty of cover during the season should Solskjaer use him.

United’s new top dog appointment proves the Glazers still don’t care about football

Manchester United are reportedly gearing up towards announcing executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward’s successor and fans might not be all too happy.

Supporters are all too familiar with the aforementioned club executive and perhaps that is part of the major problem.

Fans have criticised Woodward many times in the past for seemingly not knowing what he’s doing, as he played a big role in United’s demise since Sir Alex Ferguson‘s retirement.

However, supporters also know to point a finger at owners the Glazer family who appointed their teacher’s pet in the first place.

Nonetheless, he’s expected to step down towards the end of the year after he announced he would resign following the European Super League debacle.

According to Sky News, group managing director Richard Arnold is expected to take over from Woodward, and an announcement could be made within weeks.

However, the insider who reported this information warned the decision hasn’t been formalised and could still change while another source insisted an announcement would be made ‘before the end of the year’.

Arnold is believed to have fought off two other United executives to claim Woodward’s job, even potentially gaining the title of chief executive rather than his apparent predecessor’s executive vice-chairman role.

When Sky News approached the club, a spokesman refused to be drawn into any games, describing the news as ‘speculation’.

Arnold was seen as Woodward’s most viable successor when it was initially announced there would be a change in the position in the first place.

Fans were hoping a more experienced person and someone who has a footballing background would be in charge instead.

Some even hoped Ajax’s CEO and former Red Devil Edwin van der Sar would return to the club and help navigate it to a new and more successful era.
