Pre-season hero "attracting Football League interest" as loan move imminent

The January transfer window has a week to go and a lot of Manchester United players are itching to go out and get regular minutes.

First-team stars such as Anthony Elanga and Facundo Pellistri are keen to play more regularly while captain Harry Maguire and midfielder Scott McTominay are not happy with their reduced minutes.

Quite a few academy youngsters have got their wish and are currently out on loan and the latest youngster who has expressed his wish to play senior football is Charlie Savage.

Savage impressed in pre-season

The midfielder had made his first-team debut last season as a late substitute in the Champions League dead rubber against Young Boys in December 2021.

Ralf Rangnick also named Savage on the bench for the final game of last season, a 1-0 defeat by Crystal Palace. The game was attended by Erik ten Hag.

He is yet to feature under the former Ajax coach but the Dutchman is clearly aware of his talents having taken him with the rest of the squad during United’s pre-season tour.

The 19-year-old more than held his own and impressed along with fellow academy star Zidane Iqbal.

Not only that but Savage was also part of the group that went to Spain during the World Cup and he played in both friendlies.

Loan exit likely

According to The Manchester Evening News, both the club and the player feel a loan is the best option right now and are trying to find the right club before the deadline.

Son of former Premier League star Robbie, Savage is already attracting interest from several clubs in the lower divisions but United specifically want him to play two rungs below.

“The Manchester Evening News understands all parties are in agreement that a loan move would be beneficial to Savage’s progress and that talks are ongoing to try and find him a new temporary club.

“Savage has been attracting Football League interest, and it is understood that United would like to send him out to a League One club if possible.”
