Chelsea have been hit with a double injury blow ahead of their league cup clash with Manchester City tonight.
The Blues will be hoping to dust themselves down after a disappointing defeat against Arsenal last time out but are set to face an even tougher challenge against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.
And they will be without Jorginho and Kepa Arrizabalaga in a feat made even more difficult for Graham, Potter’s struggling side.
Taking to the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Potter revealed that he has an additional injury to contend with, alongside Kepa’s ongoing struggles in an injury saga that the boss would have expected him to have recovered from by now.
On Jorginho, Potter told the media, via Chelsea’s official website: “Jorginho has a slight problem with his foot, so he’s doubtful for tomorrow.
“Apart from that we’re with pretty much the same group that we had.“
Addressing Kepa’s injury status, the boss said: “Kepa is still unavailable. We’ll see about the World Cup. He’s got to take it day by day, it’s a tear in the plantar fascia, so it depends on how he responds, how he responds to pain, how comfortable he feels, but at the moment it’s not so positive.”
Reece James update
Potter also gave an update on Reece James’ status, with the World Cup nearing, with the star said to have been informed by Southgate that “he’s out.”
“No miracles, unfortunately. He’s progressing well. Reece was outside today, had a little jog, but nothing to report in terms of anything else.
“We haven’t really put a timescale on it. It’s just how he responds, we don’t want to rush anything. I certainly don’t want to put any timescales on it, that’s for him and the doctors and the physios. He’s optimistic, you need to be.“
Add it to the list
With Kepa still injured and now Jorginho set for a spell on the sidelines, It’s a case of adding it to the list for Chelsea boss Potter, who has not yet had the privilege of deploying a full-strength Blues squad since taking over.
Jorginho’s name is now marked as the seventh on the injury list that includes the likes of Ben Chilwell, Reece James, N’Golo Kante, Wesley Fofana, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Carney Chukwuemeka as it stands.
