'I don't think that can continue' - Journalist fears Chelsea ace's position is in jeopardy

Journalist Simon Phillips feels Kai Havertz could lose his place to Armando Broja in Chelsea’s starting line-up sooner rather than later.

Havertz has started all but one of Chelsea’s eight fixtures so far this season, including in Graham Potter’s first game in charge at home to RB Salzburg.

However, he came in for criticism with his performance in the Champions League group-stage tie and was handed a 5/10 rating by football.london writer Scott Trotter.

He failed to make a ‘significant impact’ on the night and having scored just one goal, after coming off the bench in fact, and provided no assists, Phillips has claimed that his position is no longer guaranteed.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think right now, the form that Kai Havertz is in, I think he’s on borrowed time.

“He’s not playing very well, and every time Armando Broja comes on, he plays very well and really stakes a claim, and I don’t think that can continue.”

Only Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Saul Niguez recorded a lower average SofaScore match rating in the Premier League last season than Havertz and his poor form has continued this term with a 6.75 score in the Premier League, leaving him ranked 12th among his teammates.

Meanwhile, Broja has caught the eye when entering the fray.

The 21-year-old has come on six times this season but having scored nine goals while on loan at Southampton last season, he could have a case to start.

According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the Albanian ace is catching Potter’s eye and could be in line for a starting spot after the international break.

However, it would seem that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is most at risk, so it will be interesting to see who Potter decides to select come the trip to Crystal Palace following the international break.
