Paul Robinson says Marcus Rashford has rediscovered his best form at Manchester United – attributing this to his newfound position as a striker.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 42-year-old said Rashford works best when deployed as a number nine rather than a winger.
The England international has started the season on fire and currently has five goal contributions to his name.
Robinson’s bold claim follows a report by The Sun, claiming Erik ten Hag favours using Rashford upfront instead of Cristiano Ronaldo who has been relegated to the bench in Premier League games.
As previously reported by The Peoples Person, the Dutch manager believes he can lead the Red Devils to a title charge with Rashford leading the line, who he believes has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world.
Robinson was of the same opinion.
“The big difference is he is being deployed down the middle. That is why we are seeing a better Marcus Rashford. He has openly said that he enjoys playing down the middle.”
“You get the best out of him when he plays as a number nine.”
He also said that the player’s pace allows him to get behind rival defences, a great trait to have for a striker.
“He has still got things to learn with his runs but it’s definitely his best position.”
“In Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen, United have two players who can find Rashford if he is making those runs.”
He also backed the United No.10 to make the position his own, courtesy of his side’s limited options in the attacking department.
“It is a big vote of confidence for him to be starting ahead of [Cristiano] Ronaldo as well. It will have done his confidence the world of good.”
The former Spurs and England goalkeeper’s comments will definitely do Rashford a world of good and will only work to spur him on.
