Premier League move on the cards for United star with playing time an issue

Southampton are favourites to take Brandon Williams on loan in the upcoming season according to Jonathan Shrager.

In an update from last week’s report, Southampton are confirmed by Shrager to still hold their long standing interest in Williams, and seem to be leading the chase for his signing.

In a bid to get more playing time for Williams, who struggled to get off the bench in the past season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now willing to allow him to go on loan after previously blocking a move in January.

Having been chasing Williams since the summer of 2020, Southampton’s persistence and desire to obtain him on loan speaks well of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s opinion of the young full back.

However, as reported by Laurie Whitwell from The Athletic last summer, United’s request for a guarantee of games from Southampton proved to be an issue.

Looking forward to a potential loan for the upcoming season, it is important for United to ascertain if the topic of game time remains an issue.

While Southampton’s long held interest in Williams is a positive sign, looking deeper into their squad does raise concerns of where exactly he will fit.

At right-back Southampton have the 24 year old Kyle Walker-Peters, a young full-back himself, who Southampton shelled out £12 million for last summer. Becoming an ever present in Southampton’s side last season with 35 appearances, Walker-Peters has earned large praise from the Southampton faithful.

As a result, it will be hard for Williams to overtake his place at right-back, especially as Southampton will be more committed to developing a player they own rather than a loanee.

Switching to the left side, Ryan Bertrand has been a stalwart in The Saints’ side for the past seven seasons, at times captaining the club. What is good news for Williams’ prospects, though, is that Bertrand is being heavily linked with a move to Leicester City – a move which could greatly benefit Williams’ chances of playing time under Hasenhüttl.

However, Southampton are also linked with a permanent solution to fill Bertrand’s void in the form of a £12 million signing of 23 year old Romain Perraud of Stade Brestois 29.

Similar to Walker-Peters on the right, this is a cause for concern in regards to Williams’ potential playing time.

A £12 million signing is not small change for a club like Southampton and they will be more inclined to want to develop their own young player rather than United’s. This would leave Williams as back up for both right and left-back, feeding on scraps for playing time.

Therefore, despite Hasenhüttl being a top manager to learn from and holding a keen interest in Williams, a loan to Southampton may prove not to be the best move for the United academy graduate, swapping one bench for another.

Dream come true: Man United fans can't believe world-class transfer is confirmed

Manchester United fans have broken the internet with their reaction to the confirmation of Jadon Sancho‘s transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

The sensational Englishman was the club’s main target for over a year now and so supporters have been waiting a long time for his arrival.

In fact, it can be said that despite all the positive updates of late, many fans still believed United wouldn’t actually get the deal over the line.

Given how slowly the transfer has progressed, it’s no surprise supporters held reservations over how long it would take to become official, if at all.

Even with this latest update, as exciting as it is, unfortunately fans will have to wait for an official announcement from the club itself.

Sancho’s arrival will undoubtedly add much-needed dynamism to Manchester United’s attack and it also brings some fear factor back too.

The versatile winger has done superbly well in Germany since leaving Manchester City and has had time to gain some valuable experience.

United have been told by Dortmund fans in the past that they don’t really know just how good Sancho is and how good a player they’re receiving.

It’s certainly brilliant feedback and fans will be impatiently waiting to see him in a red shirt, hopefully in pre-season.

Romano provides telling update on in-form Man United star

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told Manchester United fans exactly what to expect in regards to Jesse Lingard‘s future as rumours surrounding a switch to West Ham continues to grow.

The talented Englishman has a year left on his contract and that has led to doubts being raised over his future.

Lingard was seemingly no longer needed at United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to use other players in his squad such as Daniel James and Juan Mata.

The lack of minutes meant the academy graduate became unhappy and sought to revive his career elsewhere, leading to a loan to West Ham.

Under David Moyes, Lingard found regular football and regained his form, so much so he was part of the preliminary England squad for the Euros.

Here’s what Romano had to say on his future: “From what I heard it’s West Ham or #mufc. I don’t see him leaving for another club — If he has to leave Manchester United it’s for West Ham. If not, he’s staying at United and they’re going to discuss his contract.”

The Peoples Person previously covered a report on how Lingard will be handed a three-year contract and a salary increase due to West Ham’s inability to fund a transfer.

Some fans will feel the above report is inconsistent with the reports that have been coming out stating otherwise.

The more consistent thread is Lingard’s desire for first-team football, primarily at his boyhood club but elsewhere if necessary and promised.

Even though he would be a good squad option at Manchester United, Solskjaer is unlikely to give him the minutes he’s looking for, particularly if Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho arrives.

Although Romano only sees him leaving to join West Ham, it’s likely he will accept a transfer to any decently levelled team that can guarantee him a role as a key player.

Jadon Sancho - Here we go: Fabrizio Romano finally delivers the news United fans wanted to hear

Manchester United have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has issued his famous ‘here we go!’ tweet to confirm that the agreement has been reached for a fee of €90 million plus add-ons.

In talks: Man United at risk of losing world-class star after delaying new deal

Manchester United star Paul Pogba reportedly could be on his way to PSG if all things go smoothly, much to the horror of the fans at Old Trafford.

The sensational midfielder was sensational for his country during their failed attempt to win the Euros and many supporters couldn’t wait to see him back in action on club level.

United fans had no real problem with France losing to Switzerland in sensational fashion in the round of 16 as it meant he would get extra rest before meeting up for pre-season.

However, Pogba might not be coming back to the club for the long term as his rumours over his uncertain future continue to grow.

The former Juventus man’s current contract runs out next summer and there are undoubtedly multiple clubs keen on his signature.

According to Foot Mercato, PSG are in dialogue with Pogba, having first made contact with his agent Mino Raiola back in March.

It’s understood the talented Frenchman is open to the move, with the Ligue 1 club determined to spend big this summer and improve their midfield.

The Peoples Person previously covered a report on how the Red Devils are willing to risk letting Pogba leave for free next summer, rather than selling him this window for €40m.

It’s an interesting strategy from those at Old Trafford but perhaps they feel they can convince the academy graduate to change his mind before January comes around.

If they don’t then foreign clubs are allowed to approach him to sign him for free and Manchester United will spend the six months after that toiling to find a capable enough replacement.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side are paying the price for their own delays in offering a suitable contract to Pogba and are now left with a massive mess to sort out.

Perhaps if PSG break their bank for him now then United would even let him go this summer instead.

'World class': Fans stunned by United star's Euros masterclass

Manchester United fans couldn’t hold back their love for Luke Shaw following his performance vs Germany and his statistics show he deserves all the current attention.

The talented Englishman helped his country keep a clean-sheet as they famously defeated Joachim Low’s men 2-0 at Wembley Stadium.

Shaw’s form for United this season has seen him return from the dead for his national side after not being called up for action for multiple years.

It’s safe to say the former Southampton man has not let Gareth Southgate down so far and perhaps has even exceeded expectations.

Shaw’s numbers are absolutely sensational as well and fans will be hoping he can return to Old Trafford as a winner.

Fans had this to say about his performance:

The Peoples Person previously reported Shaw’s message to Mourinho and it’s safe to say if that doesn’t keep the manager quiet, his performances will.

The talented defender is still pretty young and not quite yet in the prime of his career so he could get even better.

Although it’s taken him longer than anticipated, he has finally come good for Manchester United and potentially could still keep it up for another five years at least.

'Absolutely unreal': Fans rave about colossal performance from United star

Manchester United fans were absolutely in awe of Harry Maguire‘s performance for his country after England sent Germany home packing in the Euros.

The towering centre-back was crucial in his side’s 2-0 victory, helping them keep a clean-sheet against some of the best attackers in the world.

Maguire was once a doubt for the Euros after picking up an injury that saw him miss out on United’s Europa League final clash vs Villareal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s men failed to win that match without him and there were always questions over whether the result would have been different had he been available.

Based on Maguire’s stats from the game vs Germany, there is a good reason to believe he could have made a difference for his club too.

Fans also had this to say:

The Peoples Person previously reported when Maguire had insisted he was fit for his country and it’s safe to say he’s proved that so far.

The powerful Englishman was absolutely sensational and can be thoroughly proud of that performance.

Not only was he effective in his own box but he attempted to cause damage to his opponent’s box with his ball-playing ability on show.

It could even be argued that Maguire should have had a goal to his name vs Germany, though no one’s likely to forget this display anytime soon anyway.

From Germany: United could make stunning Bayern raid if Pogba leaves

Manchester United could reportedly target Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka, if Paul Pogba decides to leave the club.

Pogba has just one year remaining on his current deal and it’s believed has so far refused to commit to an extended stay at Old Trafford.

With his value quickly dropping, the club are said to be making contingency plans and reports from Germany have indicated that Germany star Goretzka is seen as a possible replacement.

Bild’s Christian Falk today Tweeted:

TRUE ✅
Man United is interested in Leon Goretzka if Paul Pogba is leaving United

The claims were backed up by Sport 1’s Florian Plettenberg, who sounded a note of caution:

Update Goretzka: Yes, Man United is interested in him (according to Sportbild). MUFC have called his management in the last few days. But it remains unchanged: LG listens to the offers. But he still wants to extend his contract with FC Bayern. He loves the club.

Goretzka has impressed in a variety of roles for club and country, being used mainly as either a defensive or box-to-box midfielder.

Although he missed the start of the European Championships with a niggling injury, the all-action dynamo scored the vital equaliser from the bench in Germany’s 2-2 draw against Hungary.

He started his first game of the tournament in Die Mannschaft’s second-round defeat to old foes, England, but struggled to impose himself and was overshadowed by the superb Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips.

However, the midfield marauder had another excellent season in the Bundesliga, scoring 5 goals and creating 5 more from 12 starts.

One way or the other, Pogba’s future is likely to be resolved this summer. After a good campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he went on to play a starring role for France at Euro 2020.

United are known to be keen to tie him down to a new deal, but much will depend on the demands made by the Frenchman and his agent, Mino Raiola, who currently holds all of the cards in negotiations.

It makes sense that his current club should be planning for all eventualities, however, Goretzka is one of Bayern Munich’s crown jewels, so luring him to Old Trafford would be incredibly difficult, not to mention costly.

It remains to be seen if Goretzka would even consider the move. He certainly seems settled in Germany and, like so many of his countrymen, would appear to be completely content at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Not ‘Mission Impossible’ then, but certainly ‘Mission Unlikely’.

Cristiano Ronaldo to United could be on as Fabrizio Romano confirms Juventus exit

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed overnight that Cristiano Ronaldo is not negotiating a new contract with Juventus, fuelling speculation that he could be on his way to Manchester United.

With one year left on his contract with the Old Lady, Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes were set to decide on whether he would stay in or leave Turin at the end of his Euro 2020 campaign.

And, according to the transfer guru, part of that decision has now been made.

‘Cristiano Ronaldo is not negotiating a new contract with Juventus, as of today,’ Romano tweeted in the early hours of this morning.

‘Club now waiting for Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes to decide if leaving Juventus this summer or not.

‘Cristiano is still under contract with Juventus until June 2022 (€31m net/season).’

Romano also confirmed that United and Borussia Dortmund could complete the deal to bring Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford, a deal many believed would then exclude United from a move for the Portuguese superstar.

But a sensational switch back to Manchester could still happen for Ronaldo due to various reasons.

First, although it seems highly unlikely that United would match his £513,000 per week salary, the player has already been reported as saying he would be willing to take a considerable pay cut to join the right team. There would not be many clubs that could offer, say, a two-year deal worth around £350,000 – £400,000 per week, but United would be one of them.

Second, it would be a ‘typical’ Glazer move. United’s controlling shareholders, the Glazer family, also own American Football side, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and they bought the world’s greatest quarter back, Tom Brady, to that club at the age of 42, to a lot of raised eyebrows.

Not only was that move rewarded commercially, it also brought success on the pitch, and so the American tycoons could well seek to replicate the tactic with CR7.

Third, there is the question of ‘where else?’. Ronaldo could, of course, see out his final year at Juve but that would reduce his chances of a final hurrah at a top, top club the following summer. PSG have been mooted but it’s unclear whether the French league would hold the same appeal for the 36-year-old as another roll of the dice in the Premier.

Ronaldo would also be required to share the limelight somewhat with the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

It is, of course, not transfer speculation to bet your house on, but there is certainly enough reason to believe that Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford is not the pie-in-the-sky story that many fans believe it to be and may still happen despite Sancho’s imminent arrival.

‘He wants to stay’: Romano quashes exit rumours about superb playmaker

Manchester United star Donny van de Beek‘s future has been cleared up by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano who has made Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s position on him transparent.

The talented Dutchman has been the subject of many transfer rumours, though none of them have truly grown.

Van de Beek arrived from Ajax last summer as United’s main summer signing along with the likes of Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles, Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri.

Many expected it would be the young midfielder who would shine brightest with the team but instead it was the experienced Uruguayan who exceeded expectations.

Van de Beek certainly didn’t feature as much as he would have liked and so reports grew around apparent unhappiness.

The Peoples Person previously covered reports that claimed the Red Devils were open to a Van de Beek sale if a club came in with the right valuation.

There were never any doubts over his professionalism as he and his agent both shut down rumours multiple times.

The problem is, Van de Beek won’t remain patient forever and has to be given more of a chance to prove himself next season.

Otherwise, there are no doubts he would be unhappy and look to leave, despite being a clearly talented player.

Manchester United would struggle to move Van de Beek on for more than he arrived as well and so it would be an all-around loss on all levels.

Hopefully it won’t come to that and Solskjaer can manage the situation in his favour, unlocking a player who can undoubtedly make the team better.

United attacking prodigy faced with career altering decision after international approach

The Jamaican national team are looking to persuade Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood to join their squad ahead of next year’s world cup qualifiers according to reports.

Greenwood was born in Bradford but his parents are Jamaican.

He made his senior debut for England last September but is still eligible to switch as he is under 21.

The Telegraph reports that Jamaica’s coach, Theodore Whitmore, is eager to add to an already strong squad. Bayer Leverkusen’s pacey winger, Leon Bailey, Bristol City’s defender, Adrian Mariappa and Fulham’s attacking midfielder, Bobby Decordova-Reid are among the names in the squad.

Greenwood fell out of favour last season with England coach, Gareth Southgate, after breaking Covid-19 rules at the team hotel and then having a difficult first half of the season with United.

However, he regained his form and finished the season strongly, scoring eight goals in 11 games for the Red Devils.

Although considered for Southgate’s European Championship squad, an ‘underlying injury’ meant he was left out.

United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may privately have been pleased to see the young talent getting a summer’s rest to help ease him into further career maturity.

Among United fans, Greenwood getting a rest from football after an up and down season is certainly welcome and now, with the potential signing of Borrussia Dortmund winger, Jadon Sancho, there will be less emphasis on Greenwood to produce under pressure.

With England, there is tough competition for places.

United’s Marcus Rashford has struggled to get into Southgate’s 11 in this summer’s Euros, while Sancho on the other wing has also faced stiff competition.

Up front for England, Harry Kane may well be the starter of choice for another few years yet.

For Greenwood, the question is whether he will get the game-time he desires.

With Jamaica, he certainly would.

If the 19 year-old stuck with England however, while managing to guarantee himself a starting place in future, it would only be good for his club, as it would mean that he had fulfilled his huge potential.

Risky: Man United to do the unthinkable with Pogba's future

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to take a huge risk when it comes to Paul Pogba‘s future as whispers over a potential departure grow.

The talented midfielder was a part of the France team who were just knocked out by Switzerland after losing out on penalties.

Some United fans were ok with that loss because it meant Pogba could get some extra rest in order to feel rejuvenated before the next season begins.

The sensational Frenchman will undoubtedly be key to any success Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enjoys but the uncertainty surrounding his future has caused some anxiety.

Pogba’s current contract runs out next summer, meaning the Red Devils have to move him on this transfer window if they hope to make any money out of a sale.

The Peoples Person previously reported on fans who felt Pogba was being unfairly criticised by pundits who insist on lambasting him.

Losing the former Juventus man for free for a second time will undoubtedly cause some embarrassment for Manchester United.

Once again, it will be due to their own undoing as they took far too long to negotiate over his future and decide what to do.

As big a talent as Pogba is, United should have set a deadline for him to commit over a year ago or moved him on, rather than risk the unnecessary uncertainty they’re currently experiencing.

This hesitancy has caused chaos in their plans as they look to set Solskjaer up for success in the next campaign.

Nonetheless, players have changed their minds in the past so it’s possible they could yet convince him to stay beyond the next summer.

The incredible stats that show why United are desperate to sign Camavinga

Manchester United’s interest in Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga is believed to be official and although there was no bid just yet, it’s understood he’s a key target, and for good reason.

After all, signing the young Frenchman would mean you have a solid midfielder for at least the next decade.

Although his young age is a plus, it’s not the only thing Camavinga has got going for him as he’s clearly a talented player.

It’s been said that he refused to extend his stay in Rennes and given how his contract expires next summer, it’s no surprise to see him linked with a move away this transfer window.

United are understood to be keen on a midfielder but have first prioritised the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and a centre-back, before going on to attempt to steal Camavinga.

The Peoples Person covered the news that claimed Rennes had not received any offers for Camavinga just yet, despite heavily reported interest.

Not only are the numbers above impressive but they also indicate that he is a midfielder who is comfortable in all aspects of his game.

Given how Manchester United need improvement in their problematic double-pivot, it’s easy to see why they’ve identified Camavinga.

The unimaginative duo of Scott McTominay and Fred failed to break down many stubborn defences last season and while Sancho might help solve that problem, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly wants to build a dynamic team.

Solidity is important too and it’s perhaps why Camavinga is being targeted because he will help improve an otherwise shaky defence.

The main issue in this deal, as it is with many, is Rennes’ asking price and perhaps the player’s inclination to remain in France, with PSG registering interest too.

‘Like Kylian’: Pogba tips brilliant United target for greatness

Manchester United star Paul Pogba has had his say on his club’s rumoured transfer target Eduardo Camavinga after an impressive club season and international year for the youngster.

As reported here on The Peoples Person on Sunday, Camavinga has been heavily linked with United over the past few days and representatives from Old Trafford are reported to be going to speak to the Frenchman’s entourage this week.

It has been rumoured that his club, Rennes are willing to listen to offers for the player.

And according to the Express, Pogba has given a glowing recommendation of the 18-year-old and likened him to a global superstar.

“I followed his matches in Ligue 1, he’s young but he’s like Kylian – you don’t talk to him about age,” Pogba told a press conference.

In Ligue 1 last season, Camavinga played regularly, appearing 35 times, scoring one goal and assisting two. It was clear progress from a player who had already attracted interest from the likes of United and Real Madrid in his maiden season for the French club.

The young Frenchman also played in the Champions League last time out, the top tier of European football, where he appeared four times, assisting one goal.

Pogba then went on to praise how the player handles himself on the football stage.

‘He already has a maturity, a serenity that I didn’t have at his age, and that a lot of players don’t have.’

‘It’s a pleasure to see him put on this jersey [the French national side], score his first goal, it was beautiful. I only wish him the best and even more, because he has everything to succeed.’

‘The future is in his hands. He is also comfortable as a person.’

Pogba’s endorsement and enthusiasm for the player should cause excitement among United fans who will hope that his transfer can be secured this summer.

With another French player, Raphael Varane, also reportedly being courted by United this summer, ‘Agent Pogba’ could prove very influential in encouraging his international teammates to join him at Old Trafford, where they could, alongside Anthony Martial, form a considerable French contingent in the United side.

Just strengthening the Glazers: New ‘Sign for United' scheme questioned by campaigners

Manchester United fans who want the Glazers to leave have been left a little confused as to what to do after campaigners or organisers like MUST, Sign For United, and Not A Penny More debate over the best course of action.

Supporters have long wanted the club’s owners to depart, arguably even before their arrival was even made official.

The latest obsession amongst some fans is to ensure they own a controlling amount of shares to ensure the Glazers can’t do anything they wouldn’t like at United.

Fan share ownership is one potential route to protect Old Trafford but there are perhaps far more details than most understand.

Sign For United, which is powered by MUST, has tried to explain everything in a Twitter thread:

However, Not A Penny More’s response was rather interesting, to say the least:

Both threads deserve to be read and thought about as they present their schools of thought in regards to what would work best.

Fans want to be empowered while also either getting rid of the Glazers or at least reducing their power to a level considered acceptable.

The Peoples Person previously covered an exclusive interview with a Not A Penny More organiser and it’s safe to say their message was clear.

The idea of having a collective voice is certainly the correct school of thought but it’s easier said than done, particularly when not everyone trusts MUST and their intentions or purity have been questioned of late.

Not A Penny More may seem the more straightforward way of challenging the Glazers but their momentum has slowed down and not everyone believes in their cause either.

However, ultimately all fans share the same desired outcome- to have a well-run club that prioritises its football and fans over putting more money into owners’ pockets when they evidently don’t care about the club.

Stunning: The possible United lineup that could challenge for the title

Manchester United have been strongly linked with some high-quality signings this summer.

With Jadon Sancho on the cusp of making his long-overdue transfer from Borussia Dortmund and rumours swirling around interest in Raphael Varane and Eduardo Camavinga, it appears that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could get the ammunition he needs for a genuine title tilt.

Before we go any further: a brief, necessary disclaimer. It would be foolhardy in the extreme to assume that United will break the age-old habit of fumbling the ball this summer.

Fans have been burnt too often to get carried away by speculation alone.

However, should the club get everything right and snare their ambitious reputed targets, how would these new pieces fit together?

Let’s throw caution to the wind then and take a look at how this new-look United could line up next season:

4-2-3-1 Attacking

Solskjaer’s go-to formation looks like this. The defence looks solid and the attacking players could switch positions, meaning Sancho, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford could all pop up in different areas, making the side much less predictable.

It’s exciting stuff.

Sancho’s arrival would ensure that attacks start to come from both sides, rather than being concentrated down the left flank, as was often the case last season.

Potentially great going forward then, but a lot would depend upon Camavinga and Paul Pogba showing positional discipline.

It’s a particularly big ask for the inexperienced player and one that would likely take time and patience to fully realise.

4-2-3-1 Defensive

Bringing Scott McTominay or Fred into the side gives the midfield a more solid look. This means moving Pogba out to the left, where he’s excelled a few times, or giving him a break and playing Rashford.

It could also lead to Sancho starting on the left with Mason Greenwood playing from the right and drifting infield.

There’s no shortage of options.

4-3-3 Attacking

Against defensive opponents, Solskjaer would have the tools to switch to a more attacking 4-3-3.

The midfield has real quality with the trade-off being Fernandes getting less time in advanced positions.

The Portuguese talisman would still have license to get forward but would need to avoid over-committing and leaving the defence exposed.

Again, Camavinga would need to quickly develop his positional awareness, to help plug any gaps left by attacking runs from United’s full backs.

If the midfield stayed deep, you could expect to see Sancho drift into the space behind the striker, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka providing overlaps in the wide-open spaces left behind.

4-3-3 Defensive

A slightly less gung-ho tweak of the same formation. Again, the midfield looks more solid with one of Mctominay or Fred dropped in there, which would allow Fernandes more opportunities to supplement attacks.

This would also leave Camavinga less exposed.

Pogba or Sancho could drift infield or switch flanks entirely, with full-backs attacking the spaces and creating overloads.

Although there have also been murmurings about a possible 3-5-2, with Wan-Bissaka moved to the right of a back three, it’s more likely that Solskjaer would stick with his tried and trusted 4-2-3-1 or go for a more expansive 4-3-3.

The main takeaway here is the variety of options that the three signings would provide. With the likes of Cavani, Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood, James and Martial all vying for the forward places, there’s a plethora of attacking talent.

It would be reasonable to expect that both formation and personnel could be switched depending on the opponent and player fitness.

The possibilities are deliciously enticing.

'Screams of an agenda': Fans react to Keane and Neville's Pogba-bashing

Paul Pogba was arguably France’s man of the match in Euro 2020 last night even though Les Bleus crashed out of the tournament after losing a penalty shoot-out to Switzerland.

As reported here this morning, the Manchester United player’s stats for the game and for the finals as a whole clearly place him as France’s best performer in the competition, and arguably, one of the stars of the entire tournament.

Yet none of this was enough for United legends Roy Keane and Gary Neville in the ITV studio after the game last night.

‘We saw the best and the worst of him in the second half,’ Neville said.

‘This is the best of him [the goal], absolutely world class strike. Brilliant.

‘He takes risks on the ball, but you want those risks to be in the final third, not in the defensive third, and they get counter-attacked on.’

Keane was also critical:

‘He can be frustrating. This is all a part of Paul’s character, which people love to see, but then I’d be looking at the goal they conceded in injury time, where he was sloppy in midfield.

‘That’s the bit I’d be really critical about.

‘It seems harsh because he’s done some brilliant stuff going forward tonight. There’s no doubting Paul’s quality, just the other side, maybe his maturity.

‘We’ve mentioned all night, and United have had the same problem, can he play in a two in midfield? He probably can’t, doesn’t have the discipline.

‘He still leaves you frustrated. For all his brilliant quality coming forward, I still think he lacks that discipline defensively.

‘That’s the key, the top players manage to do it week in week out and Paul, to me, still doesn’t quite do it.’

United Peoples TV’s Sam Peoples was one of many to be angered by the duo’s negativity.

‘Why on earth are Neville, Keane and [former Arsenal star Patrick] Vieira stuck in a 5 minute conversation about Pogba after that game? He was sensational.

‘To try and focus on anything he did wrong there screams of an agenda. There are so many other more prevalent and important talking points from that game.’

The #NotAPennyMore Boycott Movement admin agreed with Peoples:

‘It pains me when pundits can never be happy with Pogba. He scored a worldie, has been one of the players of the tournament, but it’s all about how come he can’t tackle/defend like Casemiro, box to box like Kante, or dribble like Messi.

‘There’s always something wrong with Pogba. His goal analysis was about how sh-t he is defending. The expectancies placed on him to be an all-round perfect midfielder are too great.

‘It’s like pundits complaining that Keane didn’t create enough, or Veira didn’t score enough goals.’

It certainly is curious as to why Pogba is subject to so much criticism, even from United men like Keane and Neville, and even when he is at the top of his game.

‘La Pioche’ has surely been one of the brightest lights of Euro 2020 and the tournament will undoubtedly be the worse for his absence.

Most chances, big chances and through-balls: United star dazzles in Euro 2020

Despite France’s unexpected exit from Euro 2020 last night and despite the criticism from ITV’s pundit team, Manchester United’s Paul Pogba will surely be remembered as one of the players of the tournament.

In France’s short 4-game contribution to the finals, Pogba was arguably man of the match in three – at least, for his own team.

The statistics bear out that claim.

The 28-year-old registered the most touches, most passes, most recoveries, won the most duels, made most passes into the final third, played the most through balls, created most chances from open play and created the most big chances of the French team in the tournament.

He also completed the second most take-ons and entered the penalty area the second most times.

In last night’s game alone, Pogba achieved 92% pass accuracy, was successful in five out of six take-ons – the most of his team, created four chances – the most of his team, and scored a superb goal.

He also made 12 recoveries— the most of his team, won 11 duels – also the most and was fouled three times, also the most.

Despite being on the losing side, it was another master class from the 28-year-old, who is currently in negotiations with United about extending his contract.

The tournament as a whole must have left United’s chiefs and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in no doubt that they must do whatever they can to convince Pogba to stay at the club and to build next season’s side around him so that they can get the best out of him, as French coach Didier Deschamps was able to again for les Bleus.

Photo gallery: Pogba scores Worldy but France crash out to Switzerland

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba scored a worldy against Switzerland in the Euro 2020 round of 16 tonight in Bucharest but it was not enough for the world champions.

The Swiss took a surprise 1-0 lead in the first half which they held until the 55th minute, when they looked to increase it after earning a penalty after the VAR picked up on a Pavard foul on Zuber.

However, Hugo Lloris pulled out an excellent save and within two minutes, France were level after a superb Karim Benzema goal.

Benzema then struck again to make it 2-1 just two minutes later.

But with Switzerland still looking dangerous and creating chances, it took a moment of brilliance from the United man to give France some breathing space.

Pogba picked up the ball 25 yards out in the middle of the pitch. He created space with a feint and curled an absolute peach into the top corner of the net.

It looked like game over, but Switzerland battled to the end. They picked up a second on 80 minutes through Seferovic and had an equaliser disallowed for offside just four minutes later.

Substitute Mario Gavranovic then equalised in the last minute of normal time to take the second tie of the day into extra time.

For France, Pogba was, again, clearly the man of the match and threaded some inch-perfect through balls to the wasteful Kylian Mbappe that should and could have won France the game.

But despite the United man’s best efforts, the game went to penalties. Pogba was again influential, scoring France’s first with a perfect drive into the top corner of the net.

But the disappointing Mbappe missed his penalty, allowing the Swiss to achieve the most unexpected victory over the world champions and send Pogba back to Old Trafford empty handed.

Rennes’ sporting director breaks silence on Camavinga offer rumours

Manchester United fans have been told to not get too excited about the rumours involving Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga.

The sensational Frenchman has emerged as a surprise potential transfer this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his midfield.

Camavinga would certainly add quality to any club’s midfield and would potentially solve that troublesome position for at least a decade if not more.

United have some uncertainty surrounding their engine room as the likes of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, and Donny van de Beek all face crucial summers.

The experienced Serbian has been linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Roma, while the former Juventus man could move before his contract runs out next summer.

The Tweet translates to:

Florian Maurice: “No offer was received for Eduardo Camavinga Flag of France , neither of PSG, nor of Manchester United. We remain calm in relation to his situation. I know he doesn’t want to go free.”

The Peoples Person covered how Rennes’ reported €100m asking price is simply a negotiation tactic and not a real request.

Manchester United probably can only afford half of that fee and that still depends on whether or not they’re able to sell players.

It also depends on how much they find themselves spending on a centre-back, which is understood to be the higher priority at the time being.

PSG will be tough competitors to beat for Camavinga’s signature and Rennes are probably enjoying a bidding war starting over their most valuable player.

'Becoming world class': United fans asking why Solskjaer wants to sell talented star

Most Manchester United fans would like to see Diogo Dalot return to the fold and be given a second chance in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team squad.

In light of reports today from Italy claiming that United have set a £15 million asking price for the player, fans were asked on The Peoples Person Facebook page ‘What should United do now with Dalot? Bring him back into the fold, loan him out again, or sell?’

Those in favour of keeping him at Old Trafford next season said:

‘Bring him back, great cover for RB or LB. This season coming will be terrible for injuries the biggest and best squad will win.’

‘Why look for Trippier for 30k when Dalot is already a United player, he is younger than Trippier and as good. Bring him back in a keep the 30k toward a CDM.’

‘I think United should stick with the right back because he has all it takes to be one of the best. At just 21-22 years, he still has a lot to offer for one of the biggest club in the world.’

‘I don’t know why the coach sent him on loan for the first place. He is young and talented.’

‘Dalot should stay and provide competition to AWB and share RB duties. He could even slot in at LB if both Shaw and Telles are out. Money should be better spent elsewhere to boost other positions such as CM and ST.’

‘He is not bad, I would take him as a squad player and competition for AWB.’

‘Bring him back. That boy is good. How can people say “Not good enough for Man United” but the likes of Milan and Real Madrid want the dude? Baffling.’

‘This boy with Sancho can do wonders on the right flank … United should keep him.’

‘If rotation is guaranteed, keep him, renew his contract and increase his wage to scare aware suitors. Dalot is becoming a world class player.’

Those against keeping him said:

‘Sell him for 15million and put that money towards Trippier. we have Ethan Laird, in 2 years Ethan should be ready for senior squad.’

‘Ole doesn’t trust him, I suggest we loan him out or sell him so as to continue his growth, we cannot hamper someone’s growth.’

‘Sell him because he is poor defensively. A full back is not a winger but firstly a defender.
The intensity and physicality of the PL is too much for Dalot, he is too injury prone. It’s the right time to cash in Dalot before he gets another or other injuries.’

‘The boy should leave before Ole spoils his career. He will do same with Dalot as he did with Van de Beek. Dalot can give us 10 years of consistency but average Ole is not seeing that.’

Here we go: Jadon Sancho fee agreed by United and Dortmund - Sky Sports

Manchester United have reportedly agreed on a transfer fee for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, as they take a huge step towards completing the deal.

The sensational Englishman has been linked with a big move for more than a year now and fans have been teased all summer longer.

The transfer saga has gone on far longer than anyone would have liked but it looks like it’s coming to an end.

United have haggled for weeks now and it looked as though they were risking the transfer going south again as they did last summer.

However, both European giants have finally seen eye to eye on the final fee, though there are some details still in need of ironing out.

It would be unimaginable for a deal to fall apart now when it’s just the minor details that need to be agreed on.

The main figure involved is what matters and Dortmund are understood to be desperate for cash too so it’d be silly to cancel the transfer on the smaller figures.

There’s no doubt now that this saga has progressed further and faster than it did last summer but there’s no doubt fans would have loved if it was wrapped up sooner.

Most supporters can accept that since this is a big deal and a complicated one due to the ongoing Euros, that this was always going to be difficult to complete.

However, it could be argued that United should be making moves on other transfers too as they still seem to be operating on getting one signing done at a time.

Nonetheless, Sancho is closer than ever before to wearing red and the deal probably won’t be officially announced until after England’s Euros campaign is over.

Prolific, exciting striker given senior United contract and joining the team on tour

Manchester United have looked to reward Joe Hugill’s good form by tying him down for the long-term future.

The young striker has impressed while playing in the club’s younger age groups and his professional contract was almost inevitable.

Hugill joined from Sunderland as he was earning rave reviews for his performances there as well.

United have adopted a transfer policy of late that involves signing young prospects who could turn into world-beaters before they become too expensive.

Hugill was given the time needed to develop with no pressure put on his shoulders to play a part in the first-team.

The Peoples Person first covered Hugill’s move to the Red Devils when it first happened in May 2020 and it’s safe to say he’s kicked on superbly.

The 17-year-old has scored 16 goals across all competitions in 27 appearances and the sky is the limit for him.

He’s also grabbed three assists so that makes it 19 goal contributions in roughly 20 matches worth of minutes.

It’s safe to say he’s been sensational for Manchester United and fans will certainly be excited for when he eventually makes his debut.

It seems, due to the Euros, supporters might get to see him in action sooner than later as it’s believed Ole Gunnar Solskjaeer will select a young squad for their pre-season tour.

Edinson Cavani has featured for his country in the Copa America and Marcus Rashford has been busy with England this summer too, leaving just Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial as the striker options for pre-season.

'Easy to ignore': Shaw bites back at Mourinho after strange criticism

Manchester United star Luke Shaw has hit back at former manager Jose Mourinho as the pair’s poor relationship becomes more public.

The Portuguese manager has consistently criticised the talented Englishman but due to his new role as a pundit this summer, the criticisms have grown even more and have gotten weirder too.

Mourinho and Shaw never really got on during their time together at Old Trafford so it’s no surprise to see the latter blossom into a top player after the former’s dismissal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in and gave the former Southampton man the perfect platform to kick on and fulfil his potential.

In fact, he’s done so well that he earned a recall to England’s first-team and is currently representing his nation in the Euros.

According to The Times, Shaw said: “I’m used to him [Mourinho] saying negative stuff about me now, so I just pass it by. He likes to talk a lot about me, as everyone has seen recently. But his voice is his own. He can say what he wants. I will focus on myself.”

He later added on Mourinho’s treatment of the players: “It’s different with different players. He likes some, he doesn’t like others. I think I fell into the category where he didn’t like me.

“I tried as hard as I could to get back on to his side but it never worked out, no matter what I did. There is no hiding that we didn’t get on.

“I think he was a brilliant manager but the past is the past. I am trying to move on but, obviously, he can’t. He continuously talks about me, which I find quite strange.

“Even some of the [England] lads have said, ‘What’s his problem?’ and, ‘Why does he keep talking?’ Hopefully he can find his peace with that and finally move on and stop worrying about me.

“Clearly I am in his head a lot and he clearly thinks about me a lot. Yes because I don’t think any of you realise the two or three years I had with him and how bad it was then, what it was like then.

“What he says now is nothing compared to how it used to be. I’m being totally honest. I am so past it now. I have grown up a lot. The three years I had with him, I learnt a lot.

“I find it easy to ignore him now and even laugh about it. But it’s better just to ignore it and move on.

“I think it can have an effect but the way he was with me, that was him and he had his personal agenda. But I think everyone I had around me at the club was fully with me 100 per cent, so whatever went on between me and him was our own thing.

“But around the club with the chairman [executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward], they all supported me fully. So I felt the backing from the club, but not the manager at that point, but I knew I would be able to outlast him and I have and I can just focus on getting better and improving.”

The Peoples Person wrote a review on Shaw’s season and it’s safe to say there were hardly any complaints.

Hopefully this will be the end of this public dispute, especially since Mourinho is going to be plying his trade in Serie A next season with Roma.

Knowing the former Chelsea man though, he’s unlikely to keep quiet any time soon and will probably even get harsher with his criticisms after Shaw’s comments.

Negotiation tactics begin: Elite journalist confirms details of United’s pursuit of midfielder

Reports over the weekend that Ligue 1 side Rennes want €100 million (£86 million) for 18-year-old starlet Eduardo Camavinga have been explained by the reliable Mohamed Bouhafsi of RMC.

As reported yesterday on The Peoples Person, Man United are keen to sign the midfield prodigy and are set to meet with the player’s entourage this week to convince him to move to Old Trafford.

With every rumour, there is always a rumoured asking price as well that goes around and fans would have been saddened to hear the astronomically high asking price, especially for a player in the final year of his contract, and in today’s Coronavirus market.

However, Bouhafsi, who also broke the news yesterday, has cleared up what this asking price actually means, simply tweeting ‘Negotiation tactic!’.

This suggests that Rennes are in no doubt that they will have to sell the player for much less but are merely signalling their intention to drive a hard bargain.

Camavinga currently has a market value of £49m according to Transfermarkt which is a much more realistic figure.

However, as the player is entering the last year of his contract, United may even feel they can acquire his services for less still, leaving a massive gap between bid and offer price.

Camavinga’s agent is Jonathan Barnett who United will be quite familiar with because he is also the agent of left-back Luke Shaw.

Arsenal, PSG and Real Madrid have all been linked with the youngster and so in a pre-Covid world, Rennes might have expected a bidding war resulting in a figure not too far from their heady aspiration.

However, with only United appearing to be pushing forward with negotiations for now, they could have a lot more leverage.

The Red Devils may also have some leverage with the player himself, with the presence of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial in the squad and potentially, the arrival of another France teammate, Raphael Varane, as well.
