Mikel Arteta will be relieved to have navigated past Olympiacos in the Europa League after a pretty forgettable 1-0 defeat at the Emirates, fortunately a 3-1 lead from the first leg was enough to ensure passage to the quarter finals.
Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham were shockingly dumped out by a brilliant Zagreb side who overturned a 2-0 deficit to win on the night 3-0 and pile the pressure on Spurs boss Jose Mourinho.
In quotes carried by the Metro, Mikel Arteta seemingly took a swipe after being asked his reaction and simply blamed over complacency;
“It shows the level of the opposition.”
“People take for granted that you play against any opponent and you’re going to be through because of the name of the club they represent. It’s not like that.”
After a NLD victory at the weekend and now the rivals out in Europe, Arsenal fans will certainly be reveling in a good week of bragging rights.
