Messages of good luck and support have been pouring in for Timothy Fosu-Mensah after the Man United star completed a move to German side Bayer Leverkusen yesterday.
The likeable 23-year-old has had an unlucky career at United and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that he was free to leave in this window if he could find a club.
It is an exciting opportunity for Fosu-Mensah, who will be joining a side that lies third in the Bundesliga, just four points behind Bayern Munich and ahead of Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund.
Leverkusen’s Dutch head coach, Peter Bosz, has transformed the once mid-table side into a regular European outfit that has finished fourth, fifth and fourth in his first three seasons at the club.
Fosu-Mensah has struggled with numerous injuries in his time at Old Trafford and loan spells at Fulham and Crystal Palace were also interrupted for the same reason.
The player started United’s first Premier League match of this season, a 3-1 home defeat to Palace, but was unable to break into the side afterward, with just two short substitute appearances in the Champions League.
The deal was first announced by Leverkusen yesterday with an official tweet:

He was then thanked by the Man United Foundation, for whom he has worked tirelessly during his time at the club:

Fosu-Mensah’s contract with Leverkusen runs until 2024 and the transfer fee is reported to be an incredibly low £1.5 million.
