Manchester United star Edinson Cavani might rightfully have thought he’d be starting matches more often given his superb substitute appearances but instead Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed the exact opposite.
The experienced Uruguayan came off the bench again to make a big difference vs Leicester City, quickly assisting Bruno Fernandes for the team’s second.
Many thought that would be enough for United to win the game as they lead 2-1 in the 79th minute but unfortunately their defence let them down shortly after and they had to settle for a point.
Fans have absolutely loved having Cavani in the squad and his impact has been so good that Odion Ighalo has quickly become a forgotten man.
The former PSG man also appears to provide Anthony Martial with genuine competition for the striker position and some felt he deserves the spot.
According to Manchester Evening News, Solskjaer said: “Of course, Edinson has been away injured for a little while.
“He played a full game, it was a physically demanding game for him on Wednesday night at Everton, so we decided on having him on the bench. He made an impact straightaway, great pass.
“It will have to be that way for a while for him now, that he gets used to English football and the demands of this season, because it’s very much stop-and-start and a game every three days.
“He made a great impact today and in the squad.”
Cavani’s fitness has already proven to be a problem as he’s picked up one or two knocks and it seems it will be a recurring issue unless it’s managed well.
Solskjaer appears to have picked up on that and settled on using the talented striker from the bench to avoid putting a heavy workload on him.
The legendary Norwegian also seemed to hint Cavani could become a regular starter if he manages to prove his fitness so that’s up to the player.
