On a day when our focus should be on tonight’s crucial Champions League Group H showdown with RB Leipzig, agent Mino Raiola has made Paul Pogba’s unhappiness at Manchester United the topic everyone is talking about.
In an interview with Tuttosport that is airing today but was leaked yesterday, Raiola said ‘I can say that it’s over for Paul Pogba at Manchester United.’
‘There’s no point beating about the bush … Paul is unhappy at Man Utd, he can’t manage to express himself like he wants to and like people expect him to.
‘He needs to change team, he needs a change of scenery. He has a contract that will expire in a year and a half, in the summer of 2022, but the best solution for all parties is a transfer in the next (summer) window.’
The comments themselves are disrespectful enough, but the timing of them almost wreaks of sabotage and an attempt to unsettle United on this crucial day.
It may be that the former pizza chef hopes that the distraction will lead to United defeat, which will lead to a loss of revenue, which could pressurize the club into selling.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher did not mince his words about the situation:
‘Get rid,’ he said on Monday Night Football via Skysports.com.
‘I think the two of them are a disgrace.
‘Agents in this day and age, they’re not just agents. They’re a parent, they’re a best friend, they’re a financial advisor.
‘So Pogba will be well aware of what’s going to come out of his mouth – and if he wasn’t, he should sack his agent. It’s very simple. That’s all that needs to happen.
‘Pogba is not worth the hassle. Get rid of him.’
Gary Neville agreed.
‘Surely Paul knew he was making this announcement? If he wasn’t aware then we should see a quote from him very soon correcting his agent,’ the Former United skipper tweeted.
‘To do this ahead of Leipzig and the Man Derby is terrible timing for the Team.’
Raiola – It’s happened many times before. However surely Paul knew he was making this announcement? If he wasn’t aware then we should see a quote from him very soon correcting his agent. Finally to do this ahead of Leipzig and the Man Derby is terrible timing for the Team.

The MEN’s Samuel Luckhurst believes that this was an accident waiting to happen and that the club should have acted sooner.
‘Pogba’s been offered to City and revelled in a United manager’s sacking. Raiola has undermined Woodward, Solskjaer and now the club on the eve of a huge game. United’s indulgence of Pogba went against the club’s ethos and he has wanted out for over two years. Has to be sold ASAP.’

Having put in a good performance on Sunday and with Fred suspended for tonight’s game, it looked likely that Pogba would start tonight’s match. But it remains to be seen what United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will do about the 27-year-old now that this particular blue touchpaper has been lit.
