Double bubble: United to give star massive new contract - report

Manchester United are set to offer Bruno Fernandes a new contract just 11 months after he joined the club, reports The Mirror.

The Portuguese international joined United at the end of January and has since transformed the side. They have picked up more Premier League points than any other club since his arrival and he has had an incredible 36 goal involvements in 38 games (22 goals and 14 assists) in his United career to date.
‘Manchester United are set to reward Bruno Fernandes with a new double-your-money contract worth £200,000-a-week,’ the Mirror claims as an exclusive.
‘His brilliant performances at Old Trafford have put Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona on alert.
‘Fernandes is just 11 months into a four-and-a-half-year deal he signed when he moved to Manchester.
‘And the agreement has the option of a further 12 months.
‘But United want to keep the Portuguese international happy as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to rebuild a team that has now gone seven years without the Premier League title.
‘Fernandes’ salary is at the same level as Jesse Lingard and No 2 keeper Dean Henderson.’

If true, it is an interesting move by United. With a contract in place that would keep Fernandes at Old Trafford until he is over 30, there seems no need to increase that deal at all, as there is no buyout clause in the contract that could see any club swoop for him without United’s agreement.

However, the Portuguese international certainly has proven himself to be priceless to the team and rewarding him for that seems only fair and good for morale all round.

Doubling his salary would also still see him earning significantly less than top earners David de Gea and Paul Pogba, who are reported to be on £350,000 and £300,000 per week, respectively.
