It is the last of those figures that is arguably the most impressive. Playing as an attacking midfielder or number 10, to have registered the most tackles of the entire team – ahead of all the defenders and defensive midfielders – is an astonishing statistic.
The fact that the 26-year-old is averaging more than one goal involvement per game – eight from seven – is also an incredible achievement.
The figures underline Fernandes’ influence on the team, which cannot be understated. The Red Devils averaged just 1.41 points per Premier League game last season before he joined from Sporting Lisbon. That average improved to 2.29 points per game after his arrival.
United have had some world class goalkeepers over the years and some entertaining ones too. Take our quiz below to find out how much you know about United’s number 1’s, past and present.
