Chelsea are leading rivals Tottenham in the race to sign Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that the Blues are ahead of Spurs with an offer for the French international.
The 24-year-old, who joined the La Liga heavyweights from Monaco back in 2018 in a deal worth £52m, has struggled to make an impact at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, with manager Diego Simeone admitting he has failed to “live up to expectations”.
Recent reports have suggested that Chelsea may have to pay just £5m for the player on loan.
The same report claims that intermediaries working on the player’s future believe he would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge.

Reports from recent days appear to show that a possible move to Stamford Bridge is gathering pace, and actually, for the short-term, we feel as if it could be a shrewd move by Frank Lampard.
Even though Lemar has failed to score or provide an assist in 768 minutes of La Liga action this season, via Whoscored.com, if he can get back to his form during his time with Monaco, it would be a great signing.
During the 2016/17 season, Lemar was involved in 25 goals, netting 14 times and providing 11 assists, via Whoscored.com.
Those sort of numbers are excellent for a wide man, and with the future of current wide man Willian up in the air, a successful loan spell at Stamford Bridge could possibly turn into a permanent one.
