Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is still determined to sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United, according to Spanish outlet Marca.
As reported here on Monday, the Madrid board and fans have cooled their interest over the signing of Pogba due to the impressive form of Federico Valverde, however Zidane is said to remain insistent that his fellow Frenchman is brought to the club.
Marca claims that one of Zidane’s conditions for accepting the reappointment as Los Merengues’ head coach in March was that the president Florentino Perez would sign the United star. And, despite the excellent performances of Valverde alongside Modric, Kroos and Casemiro, Zidane “feels a footballing devotion” toward his acknowledged friend and sees him as “the missing piece in the puzzle”

The Mirror snapped Zidane and Pogba together in Dubai in October, although Zidane played the meeting down, saying in a press conference that “It was complete chance. I was there and he was too … We’ve known each other for a long time. We bumped into each other, and we stopped and talked.”
The Real board remain skeptical about paying upwards of £100,000 for the player, although matching his current salary of £15 million would not break the bank for the Spanish club. United, on the other hand, are believed to be very reluctant to sell in January, rendering a quick move for the enigmatic Frenchman very unlikely despite the longings of Zidane, agent Mino Raiola and Pogba himself, who has described the prospect of playing under Zidane as “a dream”.
