Manchester United are reportedly keen on tying Scott McTominay down for the future amid his breakthrough season.
The superb academy product was impressive after coming through initially under Jose Mourinho but it’s clear that this campaign is the one he’s truly established himself as a starting eleven player.
At a time when United’s midfield was arguably at its worst in recent times, McTominay rose to the challenge and took full advantage of the situation.
Not only has the brilliant Scotsman improved himself but he’s allowed others around him to flourish such as Fred while more senior players were missing such as Paul Pogba or Nemanja Matic.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be pinching himself having failed to sign any central midfielders in the summer and so it seems he wants to encourage his player to go a step further.
According to the Sun, despite just being handed a contract in January until 2023, McTominay’s fine form will see him go from earning £30k a week to £60k a week as the Red Devils look to reward him as well as tie him down until 2025.
£60k a week is hardly a risk should the 23 year old’s career suddenly fall apart and so the club won’t struggle to move him on should it come to it.
