Arsenal squandered a one-goal lead to ultimately lose 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt at the Emirates.

Match: Arsenal v Eintracht Frankfurt
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (UK Time): 20:00 28/11/2019

It was a rather unusual atmosphere at the Emirates when things kicked off. The off-field problems would have always led to such a situation but it didn’t help that the stadium was more than half-empty with no away fans.
Still, there was a game to be played and Arsenal got off to a decent start. A couple of promising attacks petered out before Joe Willock and Gabriel Martinelli squandered good opportunities in front of goal.
Arsenal players were dropping like flies in the first half. First David Luiz was substituted then Granit Xhaka temporarily left the pitch shortly before the break as the Gunners stalled in attack.
That changed shortly after the clock struck 45 minutes. A cross came in for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the back post and the Gabonese forward hit his shot low and under the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Things didn’t really improve after the break. Arsenal had a decent opening through Calum Chambers but did do better at keeping their opponent’s shots to a minimum.
But that soon changed. The young Japanese midfielder Daichi Kamada found the ball on the edge of the area for Frankfurt. He cut infield before firing the ball into the far corner of Emi Martinez’s net.
Frankfurt looked a different side and really took the match to Arsenal. The Gunners conceded a sloppy corner and when the ball fell out to Kamada again, he found the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
The game deflated with that third goal. Eintracht Frankfurt just sat in the middle of the pitch and invited Arsenal pressure. The home side’s attacks led to nothing and the visitors could counter.
The atmosphere bordered on mutinous by the end of the match as the Arsenal players aimlessly moved the ball around the pitch and approached every challenge with hesitancy.
Some players did attempt to force change. Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka were amongst a visible minority as Arsenal drifted towards their first home defeat of the season. Two goals almost became three for the visitors late on when Mendes Paciencia squandered a good chance.
But it didn’t matter as the final stages ticked away and Arsenal headed for just their second home defeat in this competition.
