Manchester United are ‘far ahead’ in the race to sign Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland next summer after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer instructed the club to push hard to sign the player, according to reports.
The 19-year-old rose to prominence in September when he scored four goals on his Champions League debut against Genk.
Haaland is top scorer in the competition with seven goals, and has a remarkable 26 goals to his name in all competitions since August.
According to Norwegian media outlet Dagbladet, United are leading the race for Haaland and are said to have already made enquiries with regard to the youngster’s situation.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who gave Haaland his senior debut at Molde, is said to have instructed the club to place a strong emphasis on signing the striker next summer.
However, United will face plenty of competition, with reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano noting last month that around 20 European clubs – including United and Juventus – were monitoring the player ahead of next summer.
Haaland is thought to be valued at £85m – a figure that would make him the world’s second most expensive outright number nine after Kylian Mbappe.
