Manchester United star Daniel James has revealed his favourite position on the pitch having been used in a multitude of positions so far.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted for the young Welshman as his only attacking signing last summer and while it wasn’t enough, it’s certainly proven to be a good transfer so far.
James has played as a left-winger, right-winger and striker in various games and in various points of particular games as well.
The majority of fans believe he’s best coming in from the left-flank but he oddly led the line in the bore draw against AZ Alkmaar.
Solskjaer has definitely made full use of the former Swansea man but time will tell where he settles in terms of position on the pitch.
According to the club’s official website, James said: “I played more on the left at Swansea but up front and on the right too.
“It’s important to be versatile in all three positions because you never know when you need to be called upon.
“We might have an injured no.9 and I might need to go to play up there, so I need to be ready to play in all three roles.
“I do enjoy coming inside from the left. I can go down the line and cross with my left, or go inside but, for now, I think it’s just about sometimes scoring a few by coming inside means people are going to be wary of that. So it’s about mixing my game up.”
It could be argued that too much versatility is a bad thing as well as Marcus Rashford has started to suffer from such.
The academy product has often been used as a striker and a left-winger while sometimes playing on the right wing as well.
Having consistently jumped from position to position, it almost appears as though Rashford has failed to benefit from learning his trade in one role rather than multiple roles and so his potential has suffered.
