Fellaini hits out at Man Utd board, claims they sacked Mourinho too soon

Marouane Fellaini has spoken out about Manchester United at length for the first time since leaving for Shandong Luneng in the January transfer window.

The Belgian, who moved to the club in 2013 under David Moyes, made a total of 177 appearances in all competitions.

However, following the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who did not view Fellaini as part of his plans, the midfielder took off for China.

Speaking in a recent interview, Fellaini hit out at the club for sacking Jose Mourinho – with whom he had a good working relationship – back in December 2018, arguing that the club on a general level does not give managers enough time.

Fellaini: “For me, yes, [Mourinho sacked too soon] because a manager like that comes and he needs a lot of players to implement his own philosophy. He wanted to build his team and after two years, they decided to sack him because the results were not there." #mulive [telegraph]

Firstly, just in case anybody has forgotten, things were just as bad under Mourinho as they are now. The football, more specifically, was just as entropic and listless as it was against Newcastle.

Where Fellaini does have a point, however, is that this club seems to have lost its nerve for planning on a truly long-term basis. After reports emerged suggesting that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be sacked if he loses heavily to Liverpool, it has been more recently claimed that the club wants to stick with his vision – a three-year plan which incorporates eight new signings.

Whether United can hold their nerve and actually go through with it, however, will be interesting to see.
