Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has responded to fresh reports over Paul Pogba’s future with the transfer deadline day just around the corner.
The last day for European clubs to conduct business is on Monday the 2nd of September with Real Madrid said to be still keen on the talented Frenchman’s signature.
Zinedine Zidane is believed to have £150m to spend but perhaps he gathered the cash a little too late with United unlikely to sell now.
It’s no secret Pogba would love to play at Madrid under his compatriot’s management yet such a major transfer happening now is tough to imagine.
The sensational midfielder would be a devastating loss to the Red Devils’ already weak midfield and Zidane is still trying to get his man after stating anything can happen.
According to the Mirror, Solskjaer said when quizzed about Zidane’s remarks: “Paul Pogba will be playing for us.”
And when asked whether Pogba will be happy with being forced to stay another season, he said: “I’ve just said that he is!”
If Pogba is sold that would leave Solskjaer with just Andreas Pereira, Nemanja Matic, Fred and Scott McTominay as his midfield options.
Selling the former Juventus star would almost guarantee Manchester United will once again miss out on Champions League football next season.
After all, a team is only as good as its midfield and even with Pogba involved, Solskjaer’s engine room needs some serious and heavy investing.
