Manchester United have given Inter Milan until Thursday to complete the transfer of Romelu Lukaku in order to give the club time to sign a replacement.
Lukaku’s representatives have been locked in negotiations with Inter Milan for some time, with United rejecting the Serie A side’s last offer of £54m.
United are happy to let Lukaku leave, but only on the condition that they make a profit on the striker they signed for £75m in 2017.
According to high-profile Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, United have given Inter until Thursday to commit to shelling out the required €85m for Lukaku’s signature.

#mufc's deadline for Romelu Lukaku to leave is Thursday. Inter are currently willing to offer €70m + bonuses. If their move for Edin Dzeko falls through, more funds could become available. He will only be sold for €85m #mulive [hln]

United want the deal wrapped up by the start of August to give them a week in order to secure the services of another attacking player, although who this could be serves as a total mystery at this point.
Nicolas Pepe was mentioned, but the Ivorian is joining Arsenal. Wassim Ben Yedder was talked about last month but those rumours have faded into oblivion. Nobody else, really, is being talked about.
And then there is, of course, the small matter of United’s top priority this summer, just like it was last summer: signing a god damn central defender – something which also feels like a way off at the moment.
